The northstar engine actually was popular, it had about a 20 year run with Cadillac and has won many awards, it was also featured on the show top gear where Jeremy Clarkson thought the engine was fantastic, and even saying it was phenomenal. Beside the fact the General Motors designed the northstar to last well over 300,000 miles, and believe me I've seen plenty with high mileage like that. Another reason is the northstar offered v8 power with v6 fuel.

These are great vehicles with lots of torque smooth power and a smooth trans. Its obvious this one was not taken care of and this guy has no clue what he is talking about. Drive a well maintained one like I did, you fall in love instantly.

The STS was the car that got me interested in Cadillacs to begin with. Sleek design, nice engine, when disregarding the problems it was famous for. I loved it.

I always wanted one in dark blue but I settled for the crimson red pearl. I have a 2000 Seville STS and 2005 Deville as my daily drivers and I can tell you that they are the smoothest running cars that I have ever owned. Even revving the motor its very smooth and doesn't even feel like its running at all. Its very important to keep these engines maintained just like in the Lincoln Continental with the Intech 32V engine. I consider the Northstar and the Intech engines basically the same. Both very good running engines I must say. Interior layout and quality is exactly the same on the Seville and Continental. You can always find something cheap on any car but you really can't get any better than a Lincoln or Cadillac. I really hope this car went to the right new owner!!

The Seville STS in this video is a beautiful car. I have a 1999 Seville SLS, I'm looking to buy a 2002-2003 STS. Hopefully I can find one. My 1999 has been giving me quite a few problems, but I still love the car it's amazing when it does what it's supposed to do. If anyone is looking to get a Seville or a Deville go with 2000+ year model. 1998 and 1999 are the most common years to give you problems with the Head gaskets.

North star is a crazy motor! Really strong, but mechanically it is complicated, specially if you want to change an internal part.. You will have to unplug much more than half of the motor..

+Alan Semaan How is it complicated??? I have worked on these engines myself and there really not bad. Internal parts on these engines rarely ever go bad. Most engines are that way having to unplug many different things.

What a lot of Cadillac Northstar owners don't know is that after you've 50,000 miles on that engine you're going to have to switch over to Mobile one diesel 20W50 motor oil and a Wix Diesel oil filter. Change that oil every 5,000 miles and let the dealership flush and fill your cooling system with factory coolant every 20,000 miles. Also rotate your tires every oil change and get four wheel alignment one a year. Trust me my 2002 STS with 123,000 on the clock runs like new and the engine purrs like a baby kitty cat! Oh yeah, before I forget change the transmission fluid, filter, and pan gasket also ad GM transmission conditioner when you get this transmission service done. Warring Never let anyone power flush or back flush your transmission or you will have transmission failure. And the last thing..replace your battery with a heavy duty 1000 cold cranking amp battery every three years no matter what. Thanks guys for listening to me.

Newer Cadillacs are much improved over the older ones, but I still feel like Lexus is a lot better. I am not a Japanese car fan by any means, but I simply feel like I can trust Lexus more and they are better quality and better built.

  • @reidb18

I was told the only major issue on the 2000+ models is the cooling system.... and of course the junky interior, leaking trunk etc but I still love them.

  • @starxlr7863

    @starxlr7863

    8 жыл бұрын

The only thing about the cooling system on all Cadillac's and GM's is the type of coolant being used. Dexcool antifreeze has been the one coolant that has caused problems on many GM vehicles. It needs to be flushed out when needed. As far as interior, those are little things and is very good quality throughout. A person can always find "cheap" things on any car. A leaking trunk is typically water leaking from the trunk lid brake light. The seal around the third brake light can dry out and allow water to leak in. Not sure if this is your case but most of the time that the problem. I hope this helps.....

+SteelCity1981 Great cars overall. They were ALL good cars. You say the newer ones were plagued with head gaskets failures?? Not true. Its a coolant related problem and can happen to any year Northstar engine as well as other GM engines. it is a very prevelant problem especially with the GM V6 engines like the 3100 and 3800. Its a coolant related issue that can be avoided and prevented!

SteelCity1981 Head gaskets don't blow, they develop a leak. The mechanics that told them that doesn't know what he's talking about. Its a coolant related issue. I have been around these cars my entire life so I'm very familiar with them. Also as far as interior, the overall quality is much the same and is excellent. Its just a matter which body style and options you like. I have a 1995 Seville SLS and its a great car with over 300k on it. Might be getting another Seville soon.

Those Northstar engines also burned oil like a diesel. GM should have used their venerable pushrod V8's instead of trying for a "new" DOHC engine. The car itself was a pretty good looking caddy considering what other caddy's looked like in the day. I'll take a new ATS.

  • @starxlr7863

+scully Im not sure. Its hard to do that on Soft padded dashboards. And then theres the problem with hard plastic dashboards is that they crack like crazy. I would recommend getting a dash cover. I have one on my 05 deville and my other cars as well. They help with the sun beating down on it. Also use a sun shade in the front window. Also avoid parking the car in the sun if possible.

+scully Many of the other GM cars and trucks with soft padded dash boards do the same thing and happens more if left out in the direct sun for most of its time. it has been a problem going all the way back to the 1950's when padded dashboards came out. However there is a way to fix them. Simply remove the entire dash pad and use fresh new 3M adhesive on the areas peeling up or loosing its bond. This is what many other people have done. My 1991 Pontiac Bonneville SSE has the exact same problem and can't find any dash pads anywhere. I have used this same method myself on that car and seems to have worked well so far.

I love the morons here. First you have a motor that raced in Indy. Second these used are cheaper than corolla's or honda's with their soft whimpy auto transmissions. Buy one for a grand, rebuild the motor and you have a something better than a beemer. (ever loose your rear suspension console on YOUR bmw 3?) I have. The car becomes a throw away or a death trap. Working STS's go for 3 grand, eat bmw's and crap audi anything, yes even S4's. Having owned Audi and BMW I will tell you those are throw away cars. The difference between a BMW and a Porcupine is that on the porcupine the pricks are on the outside.
