    Jim: Thanks for you comment. This type of jobs are difficult by themselves; handling a camera also complicates things, but since I didn't found any videos at the time about removing the water pump, I decided to do one.

    Thanks so much for this video, helped me so much (and still will in future). Turned out the plastic connection on the water pump housing was *this* close to sheering off for a long time, as I found out while trying to jiggle the thermostat connection off, and it broke off at the other end, with a huge splash of coolant. Now there's my problem!

    You gave me the confidence to try to do the job myself, very well explained and to the point. Only thing that puzzles me is that the the water pump model you use for your job shows as non-compatible with the 2001 Mazda Tribute in multiple searches. Any thoughts?

    would you recommend taking the whole pump off just to replace the front part ? do you know if the front part has a gasket or just need sealant to connect to back part ?

    Saab Aero: Yes, I would recommend taking the pump off. Is too cumbersome and tight to split the pump, although not impossible.

    If you are talking about the one that goes on top of the engine block, that's a pain in the behind to get out ! I also had to struggle to get it out. Check the video again: I used a small long nose pressure pliers to open the clamp that holds it. Good luck.

    There is a plastic connector on the longest hose. I don't recall a plastic O ring. The plastic connector can be replaced with a bronze one of the same size.

    Where did you get the lower hose that comes off the water pump I believe it's 5/8 hose for the heater, I can not find it anywhere

  • @manflaco

    @manflaco

    8 жыл бұрын

    Hi whatupfuch: I tried to get those hoses via internet and wasn't lucky. You need to go to a local Ford parts dealer and find them. There are 7 hoses in total. Here are a couple I found on my invoices...(sory, I don't have all of them). XS2Z-8A577-AB SHORT HOSE XS2Z-8A567-AA HOSE The above two hoses go to the pump and plastic manifold. You need to get the other ones that go to a plastic hose manifold that sits besides the pump. Your dealer should be able to show them on the Ford parts diagram. The lower one I show on the video, goes from the pump to the block (front side). It changes depending if you SUV has oil cooler or not. My doesn't. Try to have your VIN number handy. Hope this helps. JP

    hey I have 2001 ford escape v6 xlt. get crappy mpg. 170 180 full tank. throttle body cleaned so they said well mechanic said. get valve changed about 2 yrs ago. But. I feel i should get more mpg. any tips?

    Those V6 engines are known for having leaks on the intake runner silicone seals. They should be replaced after 60-80K+ miles. The symptom is rough idle at cold starts that improves after the engine gets to operating temp. Be aware that there are seals above and under the intake manifold separator. Many people change only the upper ones and forget about the lower ones. If you do the above, change all spark plugs (anyway you will need to remove the intake manifold to replace the three plugs on the rear of the engine). Also try Techron gas treatment and fuel filter replacement.

    Jean P. Rochet I bad oil in 2 plugs well when mechanic chafed plugs I had manifold gaskets upper and lower he didn't replace for me because said may need to do I think engine gasket or whatever he said also ran scanner no codes. But I think I'll replace manifold gaskets asap because 140 miles on full tank is ridiculously low to me. got 210 one weekend in a highway trip then next weekend on reg driving city with some a.c usage 140. before he cleaned throttle body had 170 180reg city driving. so something is wrong. And I hate the fact I get low miles. wanna improve that but if it's them gaskets I'll try that. ask I i mention changed valve. meant egr valve. But I'm next owner after the egr was changed may be it's worn and needs replacement. plus read pvc but that's for emissions but if will help gas miles then I'll change too but if won't help then won't. jist asking for tips to improves mpg. thank you for the feedback

    You have to look well into the center right side of the engine block, under the MAF connection point. Is way down there, a round plastic connector with a screen on the tip. Use a good flashlight, you will find it.
