    ha, if you want smooth downshifts with even smoother full WOT upshifts on some crazy builds, go check out some of freshkiicks run videos. i'm not saying freshkiicks is the best shifter, but for street driving (not twisties, not heel toeing), he has some really crisp shifting put on video. also, check out Misha Charoudin's channel and watch his nurburgring runs in manuals from all walks of life. He is the master on youtube for me (outside of the old school JDM subtitled videos of course). but lastly, you will also be shifting like this sooner than later. just keep driving and keep practicing.

    This is very refreshing to watch. I've test driven several S2Ks but haven't pulled the trigger yet. This is one of the last "old" Hondas I have yet to own and enjoy. Currently have a CRX Si and an EM1. The EM1 is about where your S2K is - very nice, but not perfect. Needs to be driven. The refreshing thing is being reminded to drive the car and not worry about the little issues that make it only 95%. There is freedom in that. Thanks.

    I’ve bought a NB Miata with a friend of mine that’s also my neighbor and… a mechanic. I’ve learned a lot from him and we work in the car sometimes (we bought it with engine issues and were rebuilding it as we speak). It’s turning out to be a really joyful and compelling experience for us as we bring this little car back to life

    Thanks for the S2k update, it will hold me over while mine is getting track prepped for this year. You hit the major maintenance points, shoutout to @DIYGuysvideo and @NAUS2K for having such detailed guides for this platform, and of course S2ki. Another thing you didn't mention was rear wheel bearings/ valve adjustment if you're going to track it, but you should be able to hear or feel things that are going bad. I went off the deep end and got aftermarket seats and wheel, and am finally able to get comfortable as a tall guy. Besides maintenance, driver ergonomics mods are underrated. And never sell it, driver's cars don't get much better than the S2000

I would say in terms of pure driving satisfaction and bang for your buck the ap1 is the way to go, despite the maintenance issues they have once theyre in higher mileage. Overall imo the s2000 in general is one of the best driving enthusiasts' street cars money can buy. They're such a blast to drive!

    Who did the paintwork? Because on the hood and trunk you can see some clearly visible banding/striping due to uneven coating. Like at 1:00 or 1:28 I bet it cost a pretty penny, so I'd not have been happy with the result. As for burning oil, once these Honda's start doing that, there is no fix but to change the piston rings. And it's a clear sign the previous owners didn't change it enough. My K24A3 also burned a quart every 2K miles. But it did that same amount 50K later. Just keep driving it.

  • @TheTopher

    @TheTopher

    3 ай бұрын

    Agreed, the paintwork on the hood is pretty bad, done with the previous owner. The camera exaggerates it, so it doesn’t look as obvious irl. That would be the first candidate for a repaint at some point. Need to put some more miles on it but it seems like after changing the PCV valve there isn’t as much oil burn-off and smell after hard driving 🤷‍♂️ just going to keep enjoying it and checking oil regularly

    Probably a long shot but has anyone ever owned an S2K and an Nd2 and preferred the Mazda? Cross shopping both and am curious. S2k has always been the realistic dream car but I feel like I’ve missed the mark looking at what’s available 💴 . If nd2 is 90 percent as enjoyable it makes a lot of sense from an aftermarket and longevity perspective. However part of me feels like it is missing just that little bit of X factor and exclusivity that the S has and a small part of me would feel like I compromised 🤷

    Savagegeese does a pretty good comparison. The question is what’s important to you as a driver. The s2000 is reliable and has an amazing engine and drivetrain. As a 5’ 8” driver the s2000 also surprisingly felt slightly more roomy. An ND2 has more torque, MUCH more creature comforts and better aero to start. Both cars can be modded to be awesome handling. But recognize s2000s are 20 year old cars, many of the cars out there have seen multiple owners and will have their own unique quirks. An ND2 is available fresh off the dealer lot in comparison.

But If your fun it's on the street and want better NVH go for the ND3 (bonus: much lighter and with guarantee)😎
