2001 F250 Powerstroke Water Pump coolant sensor

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

Replacing the coolant sensor located on the water pump of a 2001 F250 7.3L powerstroke. This sensor commonly has to replaced when replacing the water pump. This sensor is the temperature displayed on the dashboard. Most autoparts stores will supply you with the wrong sensor even though it looks identical.

So to clear up a little mystery. There is what's known as a Temperature Sensor, AND a Temperature Sender. They are two different things. Even though this video has "sensor" in the title, the package says that it is a temperature "sender" @3:02 If you need the one that operates your gauge, then you need a Temperature Sender, not sensor. The sensor sends a signal to the computer, NOT the gauge. I bought what I thought was the one for the gauge, but really I bought the one for the computer, which does not send any information to the gauge....only the computer. That is why there are different ohm readings. Apparently most local parts stores do not know there is a difference either.

So this is the correct part, right? Since this is the "sender" then do you know where the sensor is located because forums, google and every parts store like you mentioned isnt aware of a difference.

@@kendalltaylor3201 I am not sure about the actual Motorcraft part number that is in this video, because the bag says "sender." I got mine from O'Reilly's and I think it was a Dorman part. But I do remember buying one, and the gauge did not work after 5 minutes. I took it back and bought the other one, and the gauge worked fine. Just like in this video, the correct one (the sensor) is a little fatter than the sender, even though they both threaded in fine. Best to take your old one in with you and look at the girth to match it up.

Yes I confirm this. I bought the replacement at Autozone Jan 17, 2017 and installed it. Got no gauge movement. I tested the wire harness and it had power with the key on. So I thought the part was defective. Autozone replaced it with the same part and it still didn't work. I saw this video and called Autozone and told them I wanted the equal part for Ford SW-5130 and they pulled up Duralast TU-220. I installed this part and now my gauge works great and it was only $8.00 Thanks for the post Michael.

I also bought in autozone the tu220 that is black and this brand did not work with the 1.97 kohms multimeter and also in autozone they gave me the SU284 is gray and marked 25.81 kohms and it does not work either, I did tests and the cables if they send the signal but the temperature transmitter is the wrong one, I will try with the original motorcraft that marks 3 kohms.

George Longoria's reply comment from another thread, is worth pinning: "I ended up finding one at O' Reilley's that worked. Ask for Standard Motor Products (SMP) part number TS-380. Costs about $16. On a test meter, it registers about 2.6 kohms resistance at room temperature. With it installed, my dash guage worked properly and within range, as before. Good Luck!"

I unsuccessfully went through Motorcraft part #s 3F1Z12A648A and F7DZ10884AA before finding this one that did (F65Z10884AA also known as SW5130). Also wasted time and money on two non-Motocraft units (TU 220 and TX 61) before finding the correct one. Wish I had seen this video sooner!

I think you are right, as I had to set my ohms at 20K then it read 2.97 on an aftermarket. Hope it works 🤞
