2001 Chrysler PT Cruiser Watts Link or Bell Crank Repair

A brief video showing the basics of what is involved with the removal and replacement of the Watts link or Bell crank in a 2001 Chrysler PT Cruiser. This is generally what causes a nasty rumbling sound coming from the back of the car while you're driving. The process is relatively quick and simple and you only need a few tools to make it happen. Do not attempt this if you are not a trained mechanic and you assume all responsibility. If you do attempt to do this remember safety is priority number one be sure to safety glasses , safety gloves, safety chocks safety jacks, etc.

Instead of struggling with the puller underneath the car, would it have been easier to separate the rods from the frame and remove the unit as one? I believe this is possible as my 2002 is knocking and I plan to do it like this. Fingers crossed it works out OK. Thanks for the video.

V.good Video, but I could not see any wear to the Watts link, surely the noise comes from the spent bushings?

The center of the link gets some play along with the rod ends. I usually replace the whole assembly if it has 80,000+ miles on the vehicle.

Jeremy Citron i think its the tire rod ends. i wrapped my hand around the tire rod ends and i could feel the looseness from the metal to metal spent bushings...hopefully that'll fix the noise

Dude where do you live? Not a speck of rust under there! I live in Michigan and my 2005 cruiser is almost rusted away underneath. Thanks for the video

Please read the Owners Handbook or a Service Manual for the PT Cruiser. They advise NOT to jack it up using the rear axle OR support it here either. DANGEROUS. This is important information.
