2000 Saturn LS1, Starting Defect

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

The anti theft system in the 2000 Saturn LS1, thinks you're trying to steal the car sometimes. You have to wait ten minutes before the 'Security' light stops flashing. Once the security light is not flashing you can start the car. Trying to start the car with the security light flashing will either burn out your starter or deplete your battery!

Had about 80k miles on it. This was in 2013. That was a wayyy better car. But the Saturn is 20+ year old car even with low mileage. I’m searching for something new .

For those looking for an answer to these problems, it is likely caused by a fried Body Control Module. The BCMs on early L-series had a 100% failure rate due to a faulty chip design by Motorola. With me, the odometer was the first thing to go (as soon as the car was turned off it lost any new mileage and kept going back to 160,000) and then the security problem cropped up. I found using a BCM from a 2003 model solved all the issues.

I don't recall an issue with the low coolant light. One of the hoses did leak one time. I saw it before the low coolant light ever came on.

We have a 99 SL2 with manual trans. I removed the radio and triggered the anti theft system. Anyone know where to disarm the system? Our SL2 has 223k miles and no one is dumb enough to steal it. Less than 30 mins after trying to start it, I figured out how to bypass it like a kill switch now. Starts every time no problem, just dont like hitting the switch.

I had to leave our Saturn 2001 Sl2 in a parking lot because it wouldn’t start. The key was to disconnect the battery for 10 minutes and reconnect it snd it fired up I just got home from driving it. The issue is security detected it being stolen so it disengages the fuel line as if it has no gas!

I wouldn't do it if your car is very old. I always felt that GM should have repaired it free of charge (it is an engineering defect). None of my mechanics wanted to touch it. Five hundred is too expensive in my opinion.

@farmerinchico fuck the dealer go to a garage mechanic that does free diagnostics but the altimate fix is just replace the alarm module or replace the ecu. I don't know much about the saturns other then they are not GM's most reliable brand. But just like the daewoos that got phased out its better to keep driving it tell it dies and get a newer car that is still being produced so you can have access to cheap parts. Good luck with your repair attemps.
