Kalanis was a cracking good horse. Getting a win on a stage this large was more than deserved for him too, because much of his 2000 season was spent throwing everything but the kitchen sink at Giant's Causeway, but coming up just short to the "iron horse" in both the G1 Coral-Eclipse Stakes and G1 Juddmonte International Stakes that year.

Not sure why Montjeu even came for this race. The type of track, the fact he wasn't the same horse as the Autumn before, and the lessons from his last travelling mission to Japan.. He must have been one of the lays of the meeting.. - I just wish we could have seen him take on Dubai Millennium in the summer, that would have been one of the best showdowns in racing history

Not a shabby performance from a Canadian bred running second at a slim price of 41/1. May have been a Sam-Son farm horse trained by Mark Casse. Remember this race prior to the Classic with my top pick Giant's Causeway. Quite a day in Louisville.

A fitting and deserving victory for a colt who gave it his all to you know who in the Eclipse and Juddmonte overseas before coming to America. An easy wager for me that day and after his win I knew for sure who I was betting in the classic. Without disrespect, European horses are wonderful and superior to our runners. Especially on grass. I know they must 'spread the wealth' here but I love seeing the BC held at Churchill Downs.
