"I rode him five times and never got beat with him. He beat all the champions in the Breeder´s cup. When people ask me who´s the best turf horse I´ve ridden, I say Manila" Jose Santos (1961- ) Retired jockey

What a great ride. Jose was along the rail moving up as they entered the turn for home, and looked like he was going to go through, but the lead horse blocked his path and he had to pull Manilla up and then swing to the outside and start running again. You will not see a better ride than this.

He got Manila stopped. And dropped his whip too! Great ride?? More like great horse won despite of his jockey.

9-1 and the only horse I bet that day! Went to the track at 6am placed a significant early bird win wager made it home later in the day and caught the race live from the 1/4 pole!!! Could Not Believe he was 8.90-1.

I had Manila at 9-2 in the UN that year and earlier at Belmont he ran 1-2-3 with entrymates Glow and Pillaster to pay 2.80, 3.80 and 3.40. Accountant friend had 1500 to show on the entry on the grounds all three couldn't run off the board. I skipped this BC wish I hadn't: 8-1 was a steal.

Manila was FANTASTIC to say the least, i could put only one horse ahead of him that ran on the grass and that was the immortal John Henry.......Lastly that field Manila beat in 1986 was loaded, Dancing Brave was one of the five best turf runners that ever lived and Theatrical was awesome and dont forget the filly Estrapade

I'm so tried of hearing all these excuses as to why Dancing Brave lost. Try this excuse: "He didnt like Left Handed racecourses!" Both of Dancing Braves loses (Derby, BC Turf) were on Left Handed Racecourses.

The Derby was purely pilot error. The BC was a tired and unwell horse, should never have ran.

Why did these horses not come to Europe to race. Is it because they may not have passed the juice test. Not one of these horses would of beaten Dancing brave in England or the arc for that matter. Hard to prove but how many American horses have come over here and nailed it. We don't even consider your horses. It seems impossible for a horse to run 2:24 , when most run 2:28. That's impossible and you know which horse I am talking about.

i always think it should be like the ryder cup europe, then america but it would probably be too difficult to set up tho ?? as for dancing brave the whole lead up to this race seemed ominous to me, he was set for defeat before he entered the stalls, his run up to the race was hampered with problems, also the slow early pace , and round and round track was against him. no disrepect to the first three but dancing brave never quickened at all like he usually did. he just ran flat and lifeless just like another legendary horse shergar did when only fourth in his last race the st.leger...

Dancing Brave didnt quicken at all, got dirt in His Eye too. The tactical slow pace didnt suit Him either. After a long Season and this His 7th race , it was a defeat waiting to happen. But Nobody will Ever know had it been in Europe who would have Won , the first three Home were top notch Horses, with the 2nd Theatrical winning this race the following Year ......
