Yesterday June 19 2020. My husband 4 of our 5 sons (all under age 10). Were 40miles away from home the plan was going fishing as soon as we got to the fishing area & park The front passenger tire was leaking air, husband tried to plug it of course that didnt work, out in BFE, it starts to rain then downpour my husband couldn't get the spare tire of our 2005 dodge caravan down we were stranded with 4 boys with no idea what to do. I googled emergency how to get the spare tire of a caravan to down if stuck your video popped ☝. I immediately got out and got down under the van in the Gravel mud pit my poor husband was buried in he used that supplied old jack and it worked like a charm! We were able to get out of harms way even found a tire shop still open *after hours* and was able to make it the rest of the way back home. Didnt get to fish but my son's, My husband and myself are safe. Thank you so much for posting this video! Truly saved us in our time of need. God bless!!.

Thank you! This video salvaged my night tonight. My spare tire was STUCK... This was the only way I could release it.

Happened to me yesterday and did the exact same thing trying to beat the bastard off in the middle of an ice storm. Had the van all jacked up and did not think of this. Thanks very much; will be using this technique and greasing the snot outta that pin assembly.

Thanks it took me 3 hours to put on the spare tire that scissors jack was the key lots of fun! I could not have done this on the side of the road. I guess the tire will now ride in the back for now!

Exact same issue on same van, 2002 bought from original owner with low KM but tire has never been removed. I bought a 5th wheel I carry in the truck just in case. I will try this method and update

Lol... Glad I could figure that out for you. ;)

After finally getting mine down I put a loop on the locking latch. That way I crank it down a bit to take the cable pressure off. Then pull on the loop to disengage the lock. Cranks down then.

How could one use the scissor jack to loosen the spare, when it’s needed to lift the car and access the spare, when you’re stuck on the side of the road. Anyway, thanks for the idea, which I will use after I lift the car with a floor jack.

I just tried to help someone get theirs unstuck with no luck. Didn't have an extra jack or this idea. Ended up driving to a near-by tire shop and got a used tire...

Same thing happened to me. After tire removed I tried lubricating the safety latch o no avail so I cut it off with a grinder. It’s there to prevent spare from falling out. I think it’s totally unnecessary as the cable does an excellent job of holding the tire and it’s a stainless steel cable so it’s not going to rust away. Fucking automotive engineers. John.

Had the same trouble. I took a oscillating tool and cut the plastic out. Junk set up.

Had that 2002 Voyager lubedit need it up in slight pressure then screwdriver the latch outward .won't work if tire hanging down .took 5min never to go back .🙃

This one was rusted beyond lube and a screwdriver tricks. I saw a video on that before I did my trick. It made me laugh. Good on you for having that work. Did you need to do it broke down on the side of the road somewhere?

@@RustBeltAuto needed to rotate tires theeres a wire missing found it. in tire .PS mines a 4cyl Voyager 02 gets 40 mpg highway.2.4 ltr plenty of power ..the wire pulls it out first turn .not put it back Ever .🤗

The easiest way to get that down is to use the tools that came with the van it can't come with some rods stick it in the hole and you turn it the tire lowers down

There is a much easier method. Just use a screwdriver to release the emergency release that holds that little knob.

In an emergency, there is no screwdriver. Chrysler conveniently left that one out.

You didn't remove it. And there is a crank on the floor that lowers it

I used the crank to lower it after it got unstuck.
