200+ tries of Pump Foil Dockstart Progress

Спорт

Since I enjoy watching other's people pumpfoil Progress, here is my own contribution to this field of entertainment :D
These are like 95% of my tries, i could not record during rain.
It took me some time, to learn it. Throughout my progress board control was the major issue. As you can see, i got a good idea how the pumping technique works right from the start, staying in control of the board was the bigger problem. Also i was a little bit afraid of jumping on the board at the start, thats why you see all these "warmup tries" and my hesitancy when i did actual dockstarts for the first time.
The last run is the longest i did so far. I think the curve xlt is an easy dockstarter, but offers a lot of drag compared to high aspect foils. Maybe it is even a little oversized for my 64 kg.
Gear:
GONG curve xlt 65cm Mast stock configuration
GONG Matata eps 4'2'' ( very fragile, had to repair it 5 times alrdy)

    @Miha Zidar Hey. You are so right about the W1100. Any misspump and I was straight in the water. And it did make switching to another wing super easy. Back in January I upgraded to the Sabfoil W1350L. I've recently posted an updated video. I'm at around the 2 minute mark now and have unlocked the standing start. No longer have to run. This has opened up so many more locations for dockstarting. kzread.info/dash/bejne/k6d3sLWEoMW7eJs.html

    Great video! I kite foil - I have about 500 hours foiling now, so it's "easy" for me now. When I get off the water I am frequently asked "is that difficult to learn?" I just say "yes". Most people have never actually tried to learn something "hard" - they have no conception. I'm going to refer them to your video so that they can understand! One thing: you don't show the time it takes to recover - get back to the dock ready to start again, which was obviously much more time than what can be seen in the video.

    Awesome video. I just finished my first session (~40 tries). Very helpful to watch this. It's also very interesting that you started, and continued to land front foot first. I'm doing a similar static start from a dock that is about 2.5 steps tall. Every time I tried landing front first, I was nose-diving. When I landed back first, I got to the point where I could slap the water, then get about 3 pumps in. Once I get better at the pumping action, I was curious: Is it supposed to feel like doing a skateboard ollie (kinda looks that way in your video when I slow it down). I'm very familiar with skateboarding. Push own back foot, lifting (but not sliding) front foot, then pushing down front foot to "pop"?

  • @joshpit2003

    @joshpit2003

    Жыл бұрын

    also: my "static" start is more of a forward-push of the board (feet still planted on dock), followed by an almost immediate forward-jump. I found my best results were when I carried as much forward momentum as possible. I can't tell how much you are emphasizing forward momentum vs downward push when you first jump.

  • @willti123

    @willti123

    Жыл бұрын

    Hi, thanks. It might not look like i try to generate forward Momentum, but i do as much as i can. Also the higher you start, the better. So bedt to have a step, as high as possible but still beeing able to hold the board. About the pumping, yes it is very similiar to an ollie. But be careful to Do the jumping in the Phase where the nose is facing down or is horizontal. Dont push the Board down when the nose points up. I hope thats understandable. I think it is even closer to the Skateboard motion when you generate speed in a pumptrack.

    Whow - this is the most impressive and encouraging documentation for pumping learners, which I've ever seen! No i had no foiling skills at all before that. But it is true, i had alrdy a basic idea, how the pumping works, probably from many years of skateboarding in the past. Pumping on a foil and pumping on a skateboard pumptrack are quite similiar.
