Loved this video. 😊 Everyday I get so excited I could jump out of my skin! I love gardening (newbie-2years in). I'm in zone 6 in the states, put on turtle neck sweater, overall bibs and planted out Mankupuji carrots today! Kyoto reds, blacks, nantes, and rainbow carrots! I'm addicted and can't stop! 😁 We eat year round so we should garden and watch Hue year round... Can't wait for the update on the green and pale colored radish... I plant french breakfast, black Spanish, giant Germans, etc. so I'm eager to learn more about that particular one. Thx again for another great video Hue!

Hi Huw, many thanks for all the videos, appreciated. I have a tip for you on Edamame, which I grow, as I have a Japanese foodie wife! Harvest the pods before they are yellowing, still green but swollen with the beans, boil the whole pods until they are al dente, drain, add salt & shake & holding a pod squeeze the beans out & into your mouth one a time - delicious! They go brilliantly with a glass of cold beer 🙂Treat them as a healthy crisp substitute.

The different variation of colors of green is startling and gorgeous. It struck me what you could do with such a photo. Of all these greens , a jigsaw would be terrific and challenging. Bring nature’s beauty into your home.

I got my first full plot only since last February and sometimes I wish it looks nicer, tidy and all put together... however I think I should realise that it all takes time. Look at your garden - stunning! I wish mine looked like that, but it's not even close! I work full time and have other duties for weekends, and maintaining the allotment as much as I would like is not always possible. I need to take it slowly. Once again, beautiful garden! 🍃

I agree! I’m in NB and I still have lots of things in the garden and I have the poly tunnel still up with all sorts of things flourishing! We were actually discussing when we should take it down and I want to wait as long as possible!

Great tour of your fall gardens! Our gardens are all put to bed for the winter. We've had quite a few nights below freezing. We had a great harvest this year, and have a lot of vegetables and fruit preserved for the winter. Great harvest of Leeks, too, and I left several of them in the garden to bloom next year.

Just picked & measured the length of a fordhook giant from my garden here in nsw Australia. 29 inches stem included leaf, 19 inches. Ive been growing that type for a few years, i love it chopped up in an egg & fetta pie. Yum

Here we plant field beans in May after the last frost. We just let them grow until they dry in the Fall. The beans are harvested dry and used mainly for animal feed and some saved for seed.

Your welcome to come down under in Oz, for the summer. I've just bought an acre house & property that's a blank canvas for gardening. I'm starting to plan for an edible garden. Your garden is a huge inspiration. It will be raised garden beds due to the hard clay soil.

Hi Huw, thanks for the tour and sharing your successes/failures and tips with us. Just in case you didn’t know, soya beans can be harvested at different stages. If you harvest them as the pods are green with the formed beans, they’re also known as edamame, yes, like the ones you get in Japanese restaurants. Alternatively, if you leave them on the plant for longer and harvest as the pods and beans yellow, you can either dry these beans to store or use them fresh. You can cook them in soups liie most beans or grind them down to get soy milk to drink or for making soya bean curd with the milk 👍😊

Lovely plot, thanks for sharing it with us. I'm surprised your yacons haven't done better, mine "seem" to be doing very well. They're tall and lush, with lots of leaves. I leave them in the ground until early spring when i use them in salads, rather like you would a cucumber. Fingers crossed for a bumper harvest.

Nasturtiums are my garden thermometer: I know I've had a hard freeze when the leaves turn to green goo. That's rare here in California and it hasn't happened in more than 10 years.

I was going to write the same thing.I didn't grow Fordhook Giant this year but the so called medium sized varieties have grown like crazy. Four sowings from early April to July and all still going strong.Hopefully I'll get some good spring greens from them too.

Huw, do you ever let the radish plants flower and produce seed pods? This year I tasted radish pods for the first time and I think they are better than any radish root I have ever tasted. I also added them to dill pickles. My granddaughter will eat them all if given the chance!

Wow. My yacon, second year, was half as tall. Drought in California, and I watered sparingly 😢

We had a pretty gnarly frost here in the southeast US _much_ earlier than normal. Killed off a ton of stuff. Then it was 80F again the next week. 😑 I really need to try to grow leeks here. They're one of my favorite vegetables.

My Yacon is still doing well down here by Cardigan, all 5 are 3-4ft tall still very green. If you're down this way over the winter I should have plenty of rhizomes spare.

Thanks Huw for another uplifting and positive video. I have a question that concerns the physical demands of gardening. Last year I slipped two disks at the same time, repotting chilli peppers of all things. Since, I have been more than aware of how to carry out the demands of gardening without risking another back episode, but also how very handicapping a back injury can be to simple everyday tasks. I have never read or seen any video from the gardening channels such as yours that I follow that discusses the physical demands of gardening. My question: what is your experience, what are you aware of and what is your advice ? Cheers.

For those leggy field beans, pinch the tips off and eat them. Keep repeating every few weeks and they shouldn't flower until next spring. I've just had my first meal of them this season and they have a lovely distinctive taste of their own. And for the yacon, if you only started with the small rhizome cuttings don't be overly concerned with the size of harvest in year one. Replant with one or two of the large tubers still attached and that should ensure a bigger harvest in subsequent seasons. That seems to be the way to get the bumper crops.

Lovely garden and advice, I'm also very impressed by your cape gooseberry! Since it survived a winter already, does it not freeze in your poly tunnel? I'm about two weeks from our first frost here and will then sadly have to cut down my unprotected physalis. Great video, I love the calm atmosphere you create :)

Marvelous garden mate. Hearing you talk about celery and stocks made me wonder. Do you do any pressure canning? It's an excellent way of storing liquids for long periods of time. It's much more common in the states, but it's easy and very rewarding.

I was looking for the overarching grapevines that were supposed to be in your greenhouse? How are they this year? Also, looks like your garden is thriving still this time of year when the rest of us maybe working on prepping for winter. Are you doing a video on that? Thanks for the lovely video!

I'm in the states, and have been looking everywhere for Austrian Tree Cabbage seeds. Noone seems to have them. Is there somewhere you know of that I can buy some from? Would love to try it. Love all types of cabbage.

The you tuber Plant Abundance in US has seeds of tree collards, tree kale etc. They are sold as a mixture. He only sells them seasonally but I think you can get on a waiting list maybe. I bought some last time (it is a generous quantity) but haven't planted yet because in my zone I'll need to shelter them thru winter and haven't decided where yet. Hope this helps.

I hope you don't mind me pointing out but you have got the name of the cabbage wrong and perhaps this is why you can't find it. It's name is Asturian , this is a region of Spain, it's not Austrian, that is a different country. There are lots of online seed sellers that have seeds for the Asturian tree cabbage. Hope this helps.

In many ways hearing about accidents like your baked tomato incident and their consequences and remedies are at least as helpful as the success stories. These are the sort of mistakes I'm likely to make in my inexperience. Learning how mistakes are dealt with is a subject I don't see addressed on Pro-gardening channel, because pro's tend to just show off their finest work.

Hi Huw, your garden looks fab in October. The weather has been kind to us this autumn, and I, too, have many things still looking great. Could you possibly advise me on something, please? I am a bit concerned about some broccoli plants I bought from the garden centre in August, though. They have already got some heads on them, which, because of the mild weather we are having (I live in Bristol in the south West ), are growing bigger by the day. Some are about as big as a grapefruit, and some are about the size of an apple. I am worried the frost, when it eventually comes, will harm the heads. Should I harvest them or leave them to go through the winter first? Many thanks 😊

Do you take out the tomatoes from the polytunnel or keep them in for next year? I have some healthy-looking tom plants outside and I'm not sure what to do with them?

It's funny you mention how well your self sown amaranth was doing Huw, I have some self sown chillies, tomatoes and beans that are doing better than the ones I seed started in trays. Maybe it's a bit like a child being ripped from it environment into another one at an early age :)

My grandma (RIP) would grow a lot of amaranth when I was a kid not sure what she used it for or if it was just to give her garden some color. Do you eat it or use the seeds in something? I know in Mexico there are amaranth candies that are super delicious. ❤😊

How was the albino beet root? I have some seeds I am just planting in the SE US. If the winter isn't to bad I may get somewhat of a crop.

I hadn't considered that. I thought it was more like the tops of turnips and swedes being purple and green.
