    Tip #20 is especially important IMO. A few more tips I can share: #21: Offset sails and rudders will not make your raft sail crooked, so don't worry about keeping them on the centerline of the raft or in line with each other. Place them where they are most convenient to reach while operating the raft (tip 20). #22: Crates on the top shelf are at eye level when operating the raft, so your field of view will be obstructed when you put 3 crates on your shelves. Limit yourself to two crates per shelf whenever possible for improved vision. #23: Similarly, use the space behind you for additional storage so the shelves/ crates aren't obstructing your forward vision. #24: When you need to transport bulky items that can't be stored, knock out the floors (but not the foundations) in the center of your raft. heavy items will collide with the edges of the remaining floors and keep the load centered in rough seas. I call this a 'well deck'. #25: Place a lantern on a post on your raft. It will help you avoid accidentally stepping on a crown of thorns when disembarking in the dark and is just convenient. It also helps when reading your compass at night. Finally on the subject of the compass (not strictly raft related): The compass shows the direction the compass is pointed in, *not* the direction you're facing. There's about a 15 degree difference between those two directions and it can cause errors.

    Thank you for the continuation! Very good point that I didn't catch. I like the wall deck concept, oddly enough i noticed getting hung up all the time on those platformless raft sections so that would work very well for keeping item safe on the raft. And yeah I've noticed that with the compass as well but thankfully I've only needed it as a rough guide. :) thanks again!

    I find the fact that your compass points where it's pointing being different from where I'm looking to be largely irrelevant since the character holds it extremely consistently. Can you elaborate more on the possible errors since I can't see how that would be the case

    I made a raft for the first time yesterday. I played roughly 40 hours over two years just collecting rocks and leaves. Hated it. But now I am zipping through the islands it’s a different game. I fell off my first raft and watched it sail into the distance. I was pretty heartbreaking.

    very nice! Yeah the raft and island hopping are a big part of the game, glad youre getting work done now tho! :) I know how losing a raft goes too haha one of those things. The best course of action when that happens is to sprint swim after it and hope you can catch it before your stamina runs out. I try to remember to save before sailing in case that happens.

    Great tips! I'd like to add that you mentioned you can build a container shelf and remove the base and the shelf is still attached to the raft. Hovering in midair. I do the same thing with lantern posts. I'll have 2 of them extending one or two raft bases forward and two of them extending aft. The reason for this is when you land on an island you are going to scavenge, you basically have a lit staging area when you're gathering materials at night. It's pretty handy and you don't have to set up any other light source in your landing/staging area.

  • @Sharpie360

    That's actually brilliant! An entire raft section being taken up by a lamp post is just a huge waste. Might as well just store the lantern, take it out and drop it when you land on shore.

    I'm going to try a 5 long by 3 wide. The middle of the middle sections i will leave. The other two middle sections not on the edges of the raft I will take out. Use one empty side to put in a rudder for sail steering. The other side for motor driving. It really does help when your in the front of the craft driving and there isn't a bunch of stuff in the way. Basically your boat at the end of video you said you would built if doing it over again only I would lengthen it one section and do a motorized setup. Definitely important to have items accessible while holding onto the Rutter. You can't fall off while holding it. Drop your anchor before walking around to be safe. Nothing worse then watching your boat sail away and be lost. Great videos.

  • @Sharpie360

    @Sharpie360

    3 ай бұрын

    Definitely! I would have to say that a hotdog shaped raft (longer than wide) is the surefire way to go for the best result IMO. I like the idea of driving at the front versus the back to avoid your line of sight being obstructed. I am glad that they fixed the Rudder back to being able to interact with objects while using it; the first QOL from 2023 broke this feature. And yes dropping the anchor is best practice whenever not sailing. One mistake I used to make all the time is not raising the sails when lowering the anchor and so when i would pick up the anchor, the raft would start to move immediately. I've gotten better at this now tho. Thanks for checking out the videos, I appreciate it!

    That would be super cool to be able to build more of a raft base type raft than just a transportation raft! Unfortunately, we are pretty limited in what we can build on the raft and it has to snap properly and all that, but things like a shelter, fire or water collector cant be placed on a raft. Same goes for any of the building structures too. THere are some mods out there that allow you place workstations on the rafts, as far as building I don't know. Great idea tho! Love it 😎🎩

    On PS5 I had a raft I called the Leviathan... took me most of the 114 starting hours of the game to make, was a whopping 80 sections long by 40 wide, had a few 'glitched' on campfires and water stills, then setup a section with a Fuel still, and glitched on a potato farm... It was an epic raft home, until an update reset my starting island and 'deleted' all the bits from it... including the raft due to the glitched on campfires...

    @@Sharpie360 The only thing I couldn't have, was walls (which would have been even more epic), I kept most things to a reasonable space, (planters to the left 'top' side of the raft, campfires on clay covers at the 'home' zone, water stills nearby for ease of use, fishing supplies near the left side with no container, etc) overall it took all 20 Rock Anchors being used to stop when the sails were down and those rested on edges and 4 'pillars' with 4 directional sails in case I was in deep water and the anchor for some reason didn't deploy... all in all if I found an island Leviathan tended to beach on it until I could get all 4 omnidirection sail pillars in use... honestly wish I still had that raft... remade it on PC using mods to put down Campfires, Water Stills, Planters, cloth walls (single floor but gives you full coverage, so was cool) and made it so you actually needed to be by the fire for more than cooking if the weather went south (I have seen images of it snowing and such in the tropics so it can happen, better to be prepared than not)... I hope the devs eventually add that as a feature, if for nothing else than it encourages exploration as you can just lift anchor and move on when you loot an island dry... also hope they add in that coconuts and Palm Trees regrow, like say 3 months in the palm tree regrows the coconut and 300 days in the small palm tree grows into a Palm Tree...

    That sounds like a very impressive system! I'm surprised the game held itself together while running that beast! Lol I've been curious about just how big you can go. I would imagine it's a bit more limiting on console than pc. An entire overhaul where you can build a house boat that is seaworthy enough to be used as an escape method would be super cool. That would require all the additional build things like walls and utilities for the raft itself.

  • @Sharpie360

    It would be cool if the trees grew into large harvestable trees, I agree! Sons of the forest tried to pull that too and everyone was like yeah, no, make trees regrow. They did a 10% of cut trees grow back when the player sleeps overnight. But a more gradual method is more immersive. L Plus SD already has the different size models to use and could easily make it happen. I just wonder where their free time has really been focused these last couple years ;)

    Thanks for the tips. Now I understand why using the raft motor as a replacement for a rudder was a bad idea. xD I'd like to share a new tip. You can place the rudder at the front of the raft. Best visibility for it, IMO. The only downside is the turning is reverted so if you want to turn left, move it right. Not an issue after you get used to it. You can also do this with the raft motor but the motor itself will block visibility. You can still see if you stop using it since the character stands up when you do.

    Unfortunately I don't think there is a solution other than rebuild. From what it sounds like, you have a bunch of raft floors connected together without any bases? I'm wondering if it bugged and allowed you to do that cuz I don't think you should be able to just build and connect raft floors together, they usually only snap to raft bases. I will do some investigating quick and see what I can find!

  • @Sharpie360

    @Sharpie360

    Another question how do you keep the tires and balls together? I always have to break the chain or rope first then drag them separately to wherever i need to take them i haven't found a way to drag either of them together i am on ps4 if that helps

  • @Sharpie360

    @Sharpie360

    5 ай бұрын

    Yeah that's how you have to gather them unfortunately. You wont be able to interact with them until the group is broken apart. Tires can be easier to try to carry on your raft cuz they don't roll around, but the weight of them may cause issues with the raft itself. The physics are kinds strange like that. What you can try to do instead of bringing them back to the raft you're building, is bring the raft you're building to where they are. Break them and place the raft section right there in the water. Just keep an eye out for sharks and make sure you have a hammer and the lashing with you :) Also, im not 100% sure how it strict it is on PS4 but you will want to make sure the game is fully updated for that version too. Hope this helps! let me know :)

  • @Sharpie360

    @Sharpie360

    It will certainly work a lot better trying to do it with a wooden raft. You can use the life raft but it's a pain and very tippy in any amount of storm. You can also, might sound crazy, but you can also just straight swim to another island too. Just remember to save so you don't loss any progress in case you run across a shark. But yeah a wooden raft is the way to go but if you have other materials loke barrels, tires, or buoy balls, those are much more cost effective. A wood raft base is like 14 sticks I think. Very expensive! I hope this helps you!! Best of luck.

I know sharks don't respawn when you kill them unlike super crabs but yeah can you confirm if this write-up is true? Please por-favor mi amigo. :)

  • @Sharpie360

    @Sharpie360

    4 ай бұрын

    Yes and no. It mainly depends on the size of the raft, I've only ever had it happen to me on a single section raft but nothing bigger. What can also be tricky is rough seas with a small raft. You'll want to make sure you have at least a 2x2 at a minimum and the best bet is anything 3x3 or larger. I have a raft right now that I've only used buoy balls for and it doesn't seem to have any noticeable difference compared to one made of heavier materials. There are a number of articles out there that don't really have the most accurate information, loke I saw one saying sharks can destroy your raft, which is not the case. There could be miniscule pros and cons to the raft material but like I said, once you have a decent size raft, it basically makes no difference. At least in my experience! I hope this helps, thank you for the question my friend!

    @@Sharpie360 With the new patch, it might be worth another run through. I really liked this detailed rundown of raft building so I'm going to subscribe in hopes you do give this game another go. My wife and I have played Stranded Deep through several times. I even made my own custom island on Steam called Dawn's Oasis. It's a great base building island. Thanks for the video.

    Yeah that's probably what is happening then 😕 you're right that the console version is not as far along as the PC version but IIRC I think they're working on the new updates for the console currently. I'd have to double check the last patch notes but I'm fairly certain its in the works! For now the best bet would be to have the on the tiles directly infront of and or around you to maximize shade and maybe try limiting the sailing to morning and evenings when the UV isn't high. Best of luck to ya! Thanks for the question too :)

    Yeah! I feel like the more boat one would work better for me than the diamond. But that's because I seem to cut turns very close to obstructions so when I've had rafts in the past with 1 section offshoots like the diamond, (just for sake of separating your two designs), I tend to catch an edge and get all turned around 🤣😅 For the raft I'm building in my series, the buoy raft, it's going to be a big one, at least 5x6 I'd like to go 6x8 or larger and see how it goes using the directional sails (sails facing all 4 directions) because the rudder because useless at that size. Haha. Cheers! Let me know what other designs you end up using :)

    No you're good. You should be able to make a light hook, which is more of a standing pole than a wall hook but it can be placed on different surfaces. The wall hooks are just for trophies but you may be able to rest the lantern on it. or shelfing works for this as well. I think they're in both console and pc versions! You gotta craft and place the lighthook then you can attach the lantern! :)

    I can not add fuel for some reason... I built a 9 panel raft with all buoy balls and added the raft motor in the back of the raft dead center and added a sail and the rudder I put in the front opposite side of where the boat motor is but I walk up to it with the Jerry can and I try to walk up to it and it keeps saying operate vehicle .... It doesn't add fuel or start the boat motor .. it keeps saying operate but won't let me add fuel or start the engine.. I tried on land and in the water.. dont know whats wrong ...any idea why i cant fuel the motor or even turn it on?

    Sorry to hear that, what a drag! This may be a silly question, but did you fill the jerry can with fuel from a fuel still? Jerrys cans are always found empty (at least ive never found one filled). It sounds like there is no fuel. You could try to destroy and then rebuild the boat motor - maybe something got glitched out. The placement of the motor should not affect it operating or not. I hope this helps!
