    There have already been players that were more dominant than Serena (Graf, Navratilova, Court, etc). Not taking away from Serena, she’s a great champ, but saying there was no player who was more dominant is a bit ignorant of tennis history.

  • @serveoutwide

    @serveoutwide

    @@akizaizinskii they weren’t more dominant than her, though. To bring up Court is a horrendous look on your knowledge regarding Tennis history because she literally won 13 of her 11 slams pre open era and she had to win 5 matches over superficial opponents (lack of competition), while Serena had to win 7 matches to win a grand slam. Serena won 23 slams in the most fierce era of tennis and surely nobody can and will match her dominance

  • @akizaizinskii

    @akizaizinskii

    @@serveoutwide They were more dominant. The pre-open era distinction is meaningless in the women’s game since women did not play in two separate tours like the men did. Even if you want to discredit Court, Navratilova and Graf were still way more dominant and consistent than Serena. Again, I’m not taking anything away from Serena, but stats can’t really be argued against. Both of them were better than Serena at their peak. Serena is amazing and is an all time great for sure, but not the GOAT.

  • @serveoutwide

    @serveoutwide

    @@akizaizinskii you don’t know what you’re talking about. Margaret had to win 5 matches to win a slam. That’s literally nothing by today’s standards. Also, Navratilova and Graf faced the weakest competition I’ve ever seen. Graf’s biggest rival was a teenager from Germany (Seles) and a delusional fan had to stab her to stop Steffi getting cleared. They weren’t better than Serena at their peak. That’s a whole lie. Serena, as a teen, won against Steffi in her late 20s. Serena in her prime is unmatched and she’s the record holder for the most slams won by an individual. You need to stop discrediting Serena Williams

  • @akizaizinskii

    @akizaizinskii

    @@serveoutwide 1. Seles was from Serbia/ Yugoslavia, not from Germany. 2. Steffi played in the most competitive era ever and against all time greats like Navratilova, Evert and Seles. She also contested in Slams against other hall of famers such as Sanchez Vicario, Novotna, Sabatini, Hingis, Davenport, Capriati and others. Serena never faced a top 10 all time great in a Slam final, Steffi played 13 such finals. 3. Navratilova in her peak (1982-1986) went 427 wins and 14 losses. Steffi’s peak was shorter but even more dominant (1987-1989) 234 wins and only 6 losses. Serena simply never came close to that kind of dominance. Also consider this: Weeks at Number 1: Steffi (377), Martina (332), Serena (319) Year end Number 1: Steffi (8), Martina (7), Serena (5) Overall titles: Martina (167), Steffi (107), Serena (73) Win %: Steffi (89%), Martina (87%), Serena (85%) Steffi is the only player male or female to win the Golden Calendar Slam. She’s the only player male of female to reach 377 weeks at #1, only player male or female with 8 YE #1, only player male or female to win all 4 Slams 4 times, only player male or female to win 6 Slams on all surfaces, only player male or female with FIVE 3+ Slam seasons, etc. Steffi achieved more than Serena despite playing 11 years less so she is the GOAT of womens tennis and we have to respect that. Martina is probably 2nd and Serena is 3rd, but that’s debatable. Steffi is still ahead of the two.

    Makes me think about Venus when she first came on the scene. She did so well she was on many talk shows. When asked how did you get so good at it so young, she just kept saying, If you think I'm good, wait until you see my little sister... She said, my sister is even better. It was hard to believe because she herself was so good, but she was right, and it was true.

    Serena is the greatest player in tennis history. She has it all. She has a powerful and precise serves, her ground strokes are awesome, she does drop shots, cross courts, lobs, and above all she is graceful in win and defeat and is humble. I never heard her say that she is the best player despite the fact that she has 114 titles in total, that is so different than some of the new players who are so puffed up after they win 1 or 2 titles. Sharapova won a game? Didn’t even realise. Good effort cause Serena was on a mission to completely obliterate her opponents in that olympics. And apart from her first match, I think she dropped only 5 games, and that included the world number 1 and 2 at the time. A lot of 6-0 sets, the most in any tournament inflicted by a single player. When you watch how she moves and the level of her defensive skills, often underrated cause of her offensive play and her serve, she is the most complete player to have ever played the game. The vicissitudes of age, I wish she could stay young forever

    my favorite was the last one, the 2012 olympics. All in all, rankings and luck of the draw never affects serena. That is how good she was when she was still active playing professionally. Several times in grand slams after a period of rest or injury recovery, she comes back being ranked low like for example being 81st in the world and yet she convincingly beats the world number ones of that time. Whoever she faces, she was always seen as someone that you could never take for granted. I believe that in her looong period of dominance, no other player could really go on a match thinking that it will be an easy match when it is the serena williams on the other side of the court, regardless of ranking. That in itself soeaks of how great she is as a player. And to think that most of her wealth were produced from her prize money earnings/winnings aside from her endorsements speaks of how successful she was as a tennis player.

    @@dreman1970 Great players usual go down after a hard fight. Serena too often folded like a cheap tent in slam finals. Steffi was never dominated by Seles. She is 5-2 win/loss against #1 Seles. Which is the worst record ever of a #1 player against any opponent. Steffi was a CLOSE #2 in the rankings before stabbing. So close that she became #1 five weeks after the stabbing. Steffi played Davenport, Seles, Capriati in about 40 matches. Which are the other mysterious “power players“ Serena faced? Petrova? Mauresmo? Safina? 😜

    Better opponents??? ARE YOU SERIOUS??? In graf's prime she faced an OLD Martina ...an OLD Chrissie, sabatini (who won exactly ONE major), MJ Fernandez(who won ZERO), Sanchez vacario(who was a clay court player)...Towards the end of her career she played hingis (but so did Serena), davenport (but so did Serena), capriati (and lost to her in the 92 Olympics at 15...and Serena played a BETTER version...meanwhile Serena faced the players I mentioned PLUS henin, her sister, Sharapova, clisters, Osaka, kerber, azarenka...all would have mopped the floor with graf's main rivals....I left off seles because when SELES was in HER prime graf was winning virtually NOTHING!!! From the 90 french open to the 93 Aussie open....graf won exactly TWO MAJORS....seles won EIGHT!!! Seles was CLEARLY the number one player and dominating women's tennis...then she got stabbed and was never the same player ...plus it must be noted that out of graf's 22 slams ELEVEN came AFTER the seles stabbing!!! If seles never gets stabbed graf doesn't have 22 slams!!! She may not have even passed Chris and Martina....Serena had several time periods where she was injured and didn't play for months....and still won more slams than steffi....

I'm sure what you meant is that Serena hasn't always been winning. Otherwise, for almost 2 decades Serena dominated tennis. If you still don't understand, then let me clarify and paint a perfect picture of what dominance look like in tennis: - it means winning all 4 major Slam titles. - it means winning at least 3 slam titles or more in all four Slams tournaments. - it means being dominant in defending Slam titles (Serena defended titles at least once or twice in all Slam tournaments except the French Open). Are you with me so far? Winning 23 Slams in an Open Era is no easy feat and has never been done before. Let's give credit where it's due.
