    You know, I was thinking on human nature and I remembered the time when I saw the record of someone throwing a wounded mouse into an aquarium filled with pirahnas just for the sake of it, the memory filled me with doubt and sorrow about our species, then I remembered that however some people out there may do horrible things there must be others who cherish life and do good, so I wrote "taking care of mouse" in youtube and found you, you countered that terrible act, thank you.

    I grew up with mice as pets. 2 weeks ago my fiance got me a mouse to cheer me up as my grandfather had just passed. I love her, but he didnt realize that female mice need to be social. He also got her lavender scented bedding. So I went out and bought all the proper things and got her 2 friends. I'm so in love, but a bit rusty. Also, first time I introduced them to my niece, my biggest female pooped and peed all over her 😂

    Have a good mouse story; these are wild mice in an urban setting: I was homeless and living in an abandoned factory. I had a small wooden shack inside the factory with a lot of electronics in it like TV and a desktop computer. Come the winter, I had insulated the shack against the cold and was quite warm. The shack was roughly 8x5 in floorspace. The first mouse moved quietly in and set up underneath an elevated platform where my desktop sat. We didn't bother each other and I threw little crumbs of food down on a small bowl next to the platform every day. He decided to stay; roams the factory during the day, sleeps in with me at night. I sleep in a sleeping bag next to the platform. There is also, in the factory, a huge rat. He doesn't sleep with us. Because the mouse eats anything I leave loose, I secured all my snacks, consequently the rat is the one that goes hungry. Soon, at night, you can hear the rat running back and forth in the factory, bumping and banging against cardboard boxes and shit, looking to flush out the mouse for food....or to kill it to remove it from competing for food. I ignored it. The mouse didn't. He began to run back and forth in the shack, rolling a pebble loudly, right around my head to, obviously keep me awake. The rationale was too simple to dismiss: He wanted to annoy me enough to cause me to vocalize loud enough to ward off the rat before it decides to come into the shack. He pulled other shit, too. Things were getting good for us later in the winter. Then one night he began to crawl under my pillow and make a bunch of scratching noises, which i thought was weird because the rat was long gone...and he wasn't using a pebble. Then I heard something I apparently wasn't "supposed" to hear: the sound of a second set of scratching noise at the other end of my sleeping bag. turns out homeboy brought in a date. When it began to be clear to the mouse that I didn't give a fuck and started to feed them both, they settled in and started to have pups. Too adorable to repeat, here. If you want to see "homeboy" live, or as I call him, "Mickey Roarke", check out "Sektr 1, Mickey Roarke" on KZread.

    also, mouse smell, even entire males, if not inevitable, there are many things you can do to prevent it. Firstly, clean on a regular basis, but daily is not neccesary. In fact over cleaning makes the problem worse, as the mouse will feel insecure in his surroundings, and he will scent mark more as a result. Don't clean EVERY toy in his cage EVERY muck out - sniff each item, if it's not offensive, don't wash it, if it's whiffy, do wash it in hot soapy water/cage cleaner. The ones that our human noses don't find overly stinky, will still smell sufficiently scent marked to the mouse's sensitive nose, that when it goes back in his freshly mucked out cage, he still has familiar smelling things around him, so he won't feel the need to scent mark, as his home still smells safe and familiar. You can also add a few drops of alcohol free vanilla essence to the drinking water - this neutralises the odour in their urine. I use vahine brand from France, but provided the brand is genuine vanilla and does not contain alcohol/ethanol, it should be fine. In addition, I use aubiose bedding, a hemp based hypoallergenic bedding originally developed for horses with respiratory conditions and allergies. It is far more absorbent than other types of bedding, and not only locks away wetness effectively, but also helps lock away odours. All visitors to my home, even when I had unneutered males, have said they can't detect any mousey or bad smells at all. The ONLY time I had a stinky mouse was one who arrived from rescue with a bladder infection - he had some blood staining in his urine and stank to high heaven. A course of antibiotics from the vet quickly cleared it up and he returned to normal, and never stank again. The worst smell will typically be in the first few days as new mice settle in, but afterwards once they relax, they generally stop scent marking as they feel safe and secure in their surroundings. Edit - in fact after having owned many mice over the years, it's always been the GIRLS who smelled more (at least until they settle down) whereas my entire males, and certainly my neutered males, never smelled of anything at all, except maybe a lovely smell of popcorn when you bury your nose in their soft fur :)

    miss imee, i'm loving your videos. ;v; can't wait to see/meet the new babies you have coming, & i'm so charmed by fig. & yes!! the smell. i LOVE having jingle, but i hadn't anticipated or been prepared for the very pungent odor they produce. we had a hard time breathing on the long car ride after picking him up. but i would never return him or give him up. they make it up by being so precious, & it's not like they're intending to offend us. but definitely something people should be aware of, since various pets have been given up for less! 😖sorry for another lengthy comment! thank you for mentioning this aspect, & for continuing to love animals & try to help people in the beginning stages of learning more about them before they (hopefully) make any hasty decisions. 💚💗🐁💫

    I had my first mouse Yuki for 5 years. My cousin was breeding some mice for her snakes and asked if I wanted any. I went over and saw him and he was the runt. He was a day behind since he got kicked off his mom by his siblings for a while. But he was the happiest little mouse. He was so good with me and being handled mostly because my cousin did that with them since they were little just to get them used to being handled. My niece who was 3 at the time loved him to bits. She was very gentle with him and he was so patient. I used to hold him close to my nose and he'd give me little nose kisses! I had a scare with him once though when his head was tilted to one side and he kept falling over and off his wheel. I tried to book an appointment for him but every place near me said they didn't do "exotics" and I don't have a car. So while I was freaking the heck out about him he slowly got better and he was good as new in like 2 weeks. I don't know what it was but I knew he wasn't ready to leave me yet. I cried while holding him lots of times the first week and told him how much I loved him and I wanted him to be okay. I think he pulled through and fought for me. And he lived for another year after that! He had a great and loving life for 5 freaking years! He's still buried in my front yard in a wireless mouse box. Which I know he would've found hilarious.

    Hi! I've been a hamster momma for three years, and yesterday someone "gifted" me a female mouse... Thinking it was a good idea. Of course, I immediately found your channel and instructed myself with your advices, because the seller that sold the mouse said female mice are solitary (yeah...). So, I felt kinda heartbroken learning that female mice can get depression if living alone. Thanks to your channel, I am soon gonna get two other female mice to give Chantilly company. I have a 100x43cm enclosure that me and my mom build for Yuu (my 3yo Robo Hamster), which I'm gonna clean and prepare for Chantilly and the other two future mice. Question: how big should my hamster's enclosure be? He's old and doesn't move a lot as he used to, does he still need lots of space? Do you have any other advice for a first-time mice "owner" (kinda dislike the word owner since any animal under my care becomes family)??

    I used to own mice when I was 12, my parents are divorced and I lived with my mum only seeing my dad every second weekend. The mice lived at my dad's house as I had a cat at my mum's so I couldn't bring them back with me, I loved them very much but unfortunately I've learnt I wasn't the best carer due to just not knowing enough from being so young. The worst part was that they never got their cage cleaned until I was there, so that was every second weekend and to this day I have no idea what happened to them as one day my dad never came to get me. I don't know what he did with them :'( I had a favorite mouse, her name was Blacky and she used to sit in my little barbie car and I would push her around in it. She was very friendly and never bit me but she died suddenly, she never got any bigger and was kinda losing hair, then the day I come back to see them I found her dead. I really want to own either rats or mice again and to try my best to give them the best life they can, I get upset though knowing I made so many mistakes with my mice and wish I knew better. Thank you for your videos.

I lived in an area where education on animals wasn't really a thing, so I was not prepared to have a mouse at all. It lived in a tiny tiny box, I used tissue paper as bedding... eventually we took it back to a pet store when we had to move. Looking back, I feel horrendous and want a do-over. I think rats are the best pets to have. Like dogs but without having to take them for a walk. They form special bonds with you. Mine made it to 5yrs old. But cost thousands of pounds in vet bills. Well worth it though. I found mine to be very clear. Have had atleast four. All male. All had to see a vet at some point due to respiratory problems. I kept them very clean. Cleaned the cage daily and used the correct rat safe bedding. Will definitely get them again. But not until I am more financially stable. I think it is cruel not to take them to the vets if they are sick. Definitely keep them in pairs or groups.

    Hi! I'm thinking about getting mice. I've done a ton of research and I feel like its the best pet for me. I was thinking of housing 2 females in a 20 gallon tank, with one 8'5 inch wheel 3-4 hanging toys, 2 hides, 1 normal sized water bottle, 1 ceramic dish, kaytee white clean and cozy bedding, wooden chews. I'm 13 and I have school until 3PM. I thought mice would be nice because, I have had hamsters, a rat, and leopard geckos. They all had very happy lives. I was wondering if mice would be good.

    Except one thing. NO CEDAR for these guys. I owned and loved lots of guinea pigs and cedar is going to cause upper respiratory probs. Cedar is probably great for horses or maybe large dogs but for small furry pets like mice or guinea pigs please use ONLY pine if you don't want to use the good stuff like Kaytee soft granule. It costs more BUT lasts longer so if you think about that then the cost over time is cheaper. Cedar gives off odor which repels insects BUT with small pets, day after day 24/7 breathing cedar fumes irritates their upper respiratory and it is much cheaper to prevent problems than solving them as you know. Also PLEASE if you own guinea pigs make SURE they get vitamin C daily. They are like us in that we do not produce vitamin C and have to get it from food or vitamins. Almost ALL problems with guinea pigs can be traced back to lack of vitamin C. Scurvy is preventable and deadly so please do not forget the C.

  • @bethanyhecky803

    @bethanyhecky803

    I agree with most of this statement. I have guinea pigs. Pine bedding also can cause Upper Respiratory Infections so if you are going to use shavings you should use aspen. Fleece is can also be a bit pricy at first, but in the long run can save you a lot of money. It wouldn't work very well for mice though, because they like to dig. Please don't use pine or cedar as bedding
