Skyrim also has some awkward line deliveries, like when you get to Adriane the blacksmith in Whiterun, she tells you of blacksmith Greymane, but when it comes to his name, it's very obvious it's from different audio take, as volume is slightly different and her pronunciation and tone doesn't fir rest of the sentence. My best guess is she messed up the name pronunciation so they had her just say his name again instead of redoing the entire lengthy line and call it a day. It's obviously not a huge deal, but when she says "Eorlund Gray-Mane" it really sticks out, it's almost like AI voice. Don't even get me started on ton of obviously disinterested NPCs you find in the game, they would speak of their horrific war stories in bored, monotonous way, most notable example the "war hero" Nord you find in Windhelm. Dude didn't give a damn recording those lines.

That's hilarious. I took that delivery not as a reread, but someone who (in game) thought they didn't emphasize their words enough to convey the proper urgency for the mission they want you to do and said again with more emotion lmao

The FFX laugh was meant to be awkward. Like you said it's part of the story. Yuna was trying to help Tidus through a difficult time by suggesting he force a smile or laugh so the laugh was meant to be like that. It always irks me when people point that scene out as being weird because when you're playing the game that scene is actually pretty heartwarming.
@singleplayermoments
Жыл бұрын
Exactly this! It would make sense for people to make fun of it if it was meant to a normal laugh, but it wasn’t. It was SUPPOSED to be forced and awkward. I’m glad to see someone else saying it. It’s also quite emotional. When Yuna says he should probably stop but Tidus just can’t, you can tell he’s letting out all his pent up sadness and frustration. It was a very therapeutic moment for him.

That laughing scene is always brought up as an example of bad voice acting in video games and it annoys the hell out of me because it's actually an example of great voice acting. You are completely right about the laugh in FFX. It was completely intended to sound awkward and forced, and the original Japanese performance is identical in execution, backing up your observation. Being on this list does kind of mean that the scene did what it was supposed to do: use fake laughter to elicit genuine laughter. "You spoony bard," on the other hand, isn't so much a mistranslation that fell through the cracks, but it's actually just a very archaic term that actually fits Tellah's assessment of Edward. It's famous because it sounds weird, but unlike the other lines you compared it to, it's not actually a mistake.

Not exactly a bad line just one that genuinely caught me off guard and still makes me chuckle. RE4 was so campy and hilarious. The one standout line to me was Leon's response to Salazar telling him he was sending his right hand after him: "Your right hand comes off?" Something like that. So dumb and funny, random Dad-joking Leon
You know a line is legendary when all it takes is seeing Dante and you know what's coming. And before the line even comes you're already in tears before the line is even said🤣
You forgot the game "Bard's Tale", which is hilarious in every way, cuz he's literally seen it all, heard it all, & done it all. But one scene that will always stick with me is the Bard walks into a room to see a dance-off between zombies & skeletons, and at the end, the skeleton points to the zombie and says "You Got Served!"
I'm glad to see a lot of people understand the actual context of the laughing scene from FFX. Unlike most of the other moments on this list, the scene from 10 is meant to be cringe, it's a part of the context of the scene. As for FFIV, the Spoony Bard line, while "made up", spoony is an actual word. Tellah is basically calling him a love-sick fool. It actually relates to the term we know of as "spooning" lol. It's still funny, but it does fit the context of the scene.

Life is Strange was a great game, and also filled with some very awkward dialogue. This was most notable in how the kids spoke to each other, which felt like it was written by adults who thought that's what kids say to each other, delivered by adult voice actors that were trying to sound like kids. Great video! Jagged Alliance 2 is one of my favourite games of all time and there are so many cheezy and cringey dialogue and oneliners. Like when the character Maddog gets shot and says: "ah, blood, now I can fingerpaint"... Amazing.
It's in one of the older Tenchu games, don't know which one, but the dialogue is actually the least weird aspect of a cutscene where you meet a boss and it's some weird lumpy dude who marches toward you with an honestly hauntingly silly walking animation, there's a baby crying in the background just because and he then says: "I KNOUW what yew want! Yew want the STOUNE! It's nice and SAFE...inside my BELLY!" in an accent that sounds both overplayed and completely unintelligible at the same time somehow.
In the Resident Evil remake Ramon Salazar still says the lines about “the script” etc in the boss fight will Salazar. My favourite line in the remake is when Leon has to fight some suits of armour and after the fight Leon says “knighty knight, knights” He has a few one liners but that’s my favourite. I also love when Ashley says she’s the master of unlocking, I loved that little nod to the first game

Right? I feel like the type of humor FF can have gets lost in translation sometimes, but also Tidus iirc was just trying to do his best to make Yuna laugh and forget how much she has to stay composed and happy 100% of the time for everyone in Spira, despite how stressful things are for her. So he was mocking the idea of forced and fake happiness with an exaggerated laugh of his own to make her genuinely laugh? That's how I remember interpreting it.
@kevinclapson

This should be fantastic! The level of awesome stuff you all find or remember is crazy to me. Great editing and work Falcon and Jake. Also to anyone behind the scenes we may never see. There has to be some great lines from Deadly Premonition.
For #15, yes FINALLY someone who understands. It was the exact intention of the scene. The scene in Japanese is actually the exact same energy.
The dialogue from Metal Wolf Chaos has to be some of the goofiest out there, the writing and delivery is just comedy gold throughout
There was a lot of this in arcade games in the 80s and early 90s, mostly due to translation issues. The ones that stand out to me were "All your base are belong to us/" from Zero Wing and the intro to Bad Dudes "The president has been kidnapped by ninjas. Are you a bad enough dude to rescue the president?" I've heard that the original Japanese from Bad Dudes doesn't mention ninjas at all and makes more sense. Bard's Tale, the Dragon Quest games, and the Yakuza series are loaded with goofy dialog, but it's meant to be there and is a big part of what makes the games so entertaining.
Good references in the first Resident Evil game, but my brother and I also used to laugh at Barry saying, “what is it?!” Several times with different emphasis on different syllables also. We would go around the house and randomly give our own dramatic, “what is it?!” To each other.
What about The Town With No Name? Everything from "Do you have the time old man???," to the infamous "my name's not Shayne kid." There's so much great line delivery in that game.

I'm not criticizing it for including brevity with a heavy story like FFX. I still play that game once a year or so. Doesn't mean it was well-executed. I cringed at it the first time I saw it. The fact that the entire rest of the game was nearly flawless only makes this cringe stand out more.
the Tenchu series has a lot of fun dialogue worth looking into for this series. also the Tenchu Wrath of Heaven game on PS2 has an entire unlockable secondary joke story that replaces all the dialogue with silly stuff. (it's intentionally silly so i don't know if that counts) i don't know if you're looking for specifically unintentional comedy or stuff that doens't take itself seriously and is just having fun though
The Mask from the Splatterhouse remake has some truly amazing dialog with Rick. Definitely needs to be in part 2. 💯💯

I’ve got something to add that makes the crispy critter thing potentially very dark. There was a very controversial trial where a man was tried for murdering his two sons for insurance money and he got away with it for years before police started to ask questions. When the investigation began, they spoke to one witness that was a friend or member of the family and attended the funeral. At some point she asked the father if they’d be able to view the boy at the funeral and he said nope. He is a real crispy critter… they ended up using her testimony in court. Wild.

the best and goffy one liner in RE4 is the last codec call where Leon says "INSECT'S LIVES DOESN'T COMPARE TO HUMAN LIVES" which is still got me to this date.
My favorite line that always cracks me up is in M E 2 during the beginning of the recruiting Mordin mission, when you're heading to the quaranterm zone, a guard there isn't letting anyone in. You tell him you'll get the quarantine zone taken care if and the guard says you can go. A lady waiting to get in calls him an ass because he's letting you in but not her, and the guard says this lovely line "lady, you don't have a grenade Launcher"
Before watching this video, I hope they mention Agent 47's deadpan "I need to use the bathroom" line from the first Hitman game
19:13 ROFL i just spit my food. the way his voice cracks then echos combined with that music oh my god I'm dying. it's supposed to be emotional but it's so fucking funny
Max Payne 3 had a ton of goofy lines. I specifically remember cracking a smile at "i had a hole in my second favorite drinking arm."
One of my favorite lines is from Bioshock. Where there's a random splicer at the door of his GF or something and you hear her yelling at him. Then you shoot "Charlie" and she comes out and says "Charlie, where you gone!? Ohhhh chaaarrrliiieee" lol priceless
The "Spoony Bard" line reminds me of an exchange from Xenoblade 3. Eunie calls Lanz a Muppet and Lanz counters it by calling Eunie a "sassy Spoon"
"Crispy Critters" made me laugh, and the back and forth between him and his AI partner while being hunted by creepy mustachioed robots really had me sold on that Atomic Hearts.
One that always stood out to me was in Sly Cooper 2 when Neyla turns on Sly and Sly says "what are you doing?". The way Sly says the line sounds more like he's genuinely curious rather than shocked at her behavior. It always made me think the voice actor didn't quite understand the context and was just given the line to read, so he did what made sense to him.
My roommate let me play his Playstation while he was out of town, but he didn't have a memory card. So, for me the intro sequences of Resident Evil are burned into my brain, so when I think of bad RE lines, I think of the absolutely awkward pauses in the dialog. Chris: "Barry! Where's Barry?!" (2 second delay) Wesker: "I'm sorry, but he's probably..." (3 seconds of dead silence) Jill: *gasp* "NOOO!" Amazing.

When I bought my first PlayStation I didn’t know what a memory card was, I was used to SNES. I played for a week like that, agree on the brain burn.
Dialogue wise, I don’t think anything could possibly be worse than Forspoken.

"Mordanius, it's me... LANILOR!" 😂Just thinking about the voice acting in Divine Divinity makes me laugh. So bad it's good.
One of my favourite moments in RE4 is where Salazar calls Leon after Ashley gets captured, and Salazar makes it very obvious that he doesn't know Ashley walked into a trap, and when Leon tells him (fck knows why) he instantly knows which trap it is with no reference to the type of trap

All this time I thought he was saying "jiggle sandwich" and that was so much worse in my head lol
Dude the Mickey Mouse in Kh2 hits me every time lmao I love the way he’s just standing there all menacingly lmao hahaha 🤣
Was happy to see any Jill/Barry there. Their interactions will always be the most memorably bad dialogue. This video kept me chuckling throughout.
Devil May Cry is was already a good game, but Dante's voice acting cemented it as a masterpiece
Killzone 1 had a funny line where one of the soldiers keep saying "You Want Some Of This Huh!' over and over periodically during the beginning and it's hilarious Everytime!
when the DMC line cracked voice is just the best
The phrase "Crispy critters" in AH has nothing to do with different culture or something like that. This phrase explained towards the end of the game. Major Nechayev barely survived an explosion in Bulgaria on his previous assignment and went into a coma (his wife died in this explosion). Sechenov installed Polymer implant in his head, and during calibration process one of the medics mentioned that when Nechayev and the body of his wife were found, they've been burned like crispy critters. This phrase stuck in his head.
