There's a way to change the F key mapping by the way: You need to make a personal mod for that, but in the 00_defines.txt you can search for TOPBAR_BUTTONS_SHORTCUTS and change them around, so you can use them to open the technology menu for example (which is impossible otherwise).

With my recent streak of bad luck in games, the Alt+F4 is really helpful. Not having to click through the menu just to rage quit saves me a lot of anxiety.

But for real, using Tab for setting up branches as a megacorp is SOOO useful. I can't believe I haven't figured it out up until now.

@@N1ghthavvk That's what I did, missed tech being F4 Only problem is, it messes with the checksum...

Honestly, the only one I didn't already know was Ctrl+Tab. That's going to be really useful. I recently learned Ctrl+Rclick recently while reading through reddit.
What triggers me about tab is that it goes through planets in the order you colonized them, not in the order they are on the outliner. So if i go through my planets, have to react to a situation, and want to continue going through my planets, i have to remember where i stopped or start doing it all over again.

This is one of the most annoying things! It's great to quickly scroll through but to actually search for a planet with it is frustrating
@NotNitehawk

This is why I set all my "active" planets to a number key along with unfinished megas. "Active" meaning worlds that haven't been fully developed yet.

This is a bit weird because it goes through the order on the outliner for me, from top to bottom, maybe there is somewhere to set this. And you can rename the planet when you colonies it.
When I first started playing Stellaris, I was playing with my brother and had horribly messed up my economy and was in a deficit with everything, so to help, my brother offered me a couple thousand food, but neither of us knew about the hotkeys to advance the trade menu more than 1 at a time, so I sat there for like 20 minutes clicking the +1 button.
Being able to lock the navigation bar will be sooooo helpful, the amount of times I have been doing something important and then for a second my cursor hovers over the navigation, clicks something, causing me to have to do everything I was doing all over again or for me to not have time to order a fleet to do something, causing its destruction is countless.
“You can click Tab to cycle through every planet” Holy fuck. How do I have 3,000 hours in this game and not know this?
@k0ziolRD

How would i laugh if that information was given by AI helper, but everybody was disabling him for minerals xD
I really wish you could press tab to cycle through starbases too also I have over 2000 hours played and I just now learned you can disable alerts
fun fact: the alt+f4 hotkey works across *all* paradox games, not just stellaris now you can ragequit in a more efficient and precise manner

z,x,c in technology menu switch between physics, society and engineering, v opens already researched techs. ESC key closes most of the stuff j for jump drive, p for patrol (if they make it useful one day), h to halt fleet movement, t changes fleet stances (useful with transport fleets)
@oygemprime3864

Patrol is useful for dealing with piracy if you're too lazy or resource-starved to get a bastion over your route.

Que your fleet to patrol in and out of nebula or any other way to appear and vanish from line of sight on your border. Watch AI break down/other player eye twitch.
That 'ping' command only needs the Alt, and not the Control. We know because our alt key gets stuck active a lot.
Thanks for this @Ep30, just as an amendment to your planetary zxcv. This actually works on any thing with those style tabs it seems. From what i've seen in my testing! Thanks for putting these things out, I learn something new everytime.
If you select multiple ships then crtl + number you get the excact same selection back.
dang... how is it ive put well over 1k hours on this game and yet there is STILL soo much for me to learn about this game.. Thank you for the tips Ep3o
Ctrl+numbers saves a selection. For example if you have a planet selected and you press ctrl+1 that planet gets saved to the 1 key. Why I'm specifying this? Because you can have multiple fleet selected at once. You can literally make task forces specifically for your strategy and/or having all your empire navy at your command with a single button.
@B3RyL
Жыл бұрын
Being able to mix and match selections is so helpful. I always have my entire force on 1, then smaller battle groups on 2,3,4 etc. So in a war I can jump between my fleets with ease and will always know which front I'm zooming in on, and when shit hits the fan (like the Unbidden invading my core systems while I'm at war on the other side of the galaxy) I can just press 1 and quickly gather them in one place for a counterattack. It's also useful at the end of the war when you have to recall your fleets. Just press 1, then B, and you're done.

What I do is I pick the slowest fleet and set it to a number and then have the other fleets follow it so the fleets don't spread out and then just use the control grouped main fleet to move around.
@Bradley_UA

Theoretically sounds nice but in practice managing piles of stacks is very cubersome regardless, besides for 3 stacks you need 6 keys already... Idk, I wish they'd implement it the way it's done in hoi4 already
@williamschubert4819
Жыл бұрын
@@Bradley_UA what do you mean by 6 keys?
@Bradley_UA
Жыл бұрын
@@williamschubert4819 1 key for the whole stack, and 1 key for the leading fleet in the stack. You want to use a single leading fleet which the others follow, so that they move together as a single unit, and don't spread out and die one by one. Best way to manage large amounts of large stacks in my opinion, and really you're just using three buttons, but you have to remember and occasionally use the other three and it just gets confuing
I barely use hot keys but when I do I can't stop.
There is also a hotkey to instantly upgrade your starbase. Just click on your base and press u and it’s done. Discovered this yesterday
@evildeadspace

U is general key for upgrade, not only for starbases
I'm about to go court room stenographer on this game.
"I currently have no friends to test it with" I felt that too much 😂
Thnx man, i didnt know mist of these. Specially that tab switching of planets , that will help a lot in the late game
I knew a good bit of these - but that army one is going to be a huge time saver for sure. Thanks!!
1:50 The mod called Old Hotkeys redefines the Function keys to how they originally worked. You’re still limited to only having 10, and as the mod dictates them, but I think it’s better than how vanilla is.
I wish I could change a lot of the hotkeys and inputs. I play with Numpad for most games and it feels awkward for me to try to play around wasd
very nice, especially the tabbing
Loving the classic sims music in the background 😂
I think the only thing that matters to me would be Locking the left bar, so hell yeah, take my like.
Love the vids keep up the great content
Already knew those, but I don't really play anymore, so that's a thing. Mostly given up on Stellaris at this point. Now it's just time to wait and see if something actually good comes out at some point.
Super useful video, thanks for making it. 😎👍
I think it was you who mentioned the tab key in an earlier video, and it's been a lifesaver in my games. I'll have to check out the rest of these tips, thanks!

@@Ep3o Your tips and tricks videos are really helpful. I enjoy Montu's deep-dive analyses, but sometimes I just need a quick guide on how to do basic things. I hope you do more of these because some of them are life-savers.
Thank you for giving me this important information. Now how do I press ctrl + shift on my controller
tab and Z/V are great for a megacorp if you're looking for a planet with upgraded capital to open a branch on
I knew a lot of them, but I’m definitely gonna use the control groups! No more hunting for my mega shipyard since there is already a gateway in the system. And it will save time when I have a dozen fleets to move at once
Darn, I knew about most of these hotkeys already, didnt know about the map ping one though!
6k+ hours logged and I learned something new today
Hello Ep3o! You could do some viewer matches for testing!
Knew most of these tips but army recruitment one is really nice. I hate making armies
Jesus, I have well almost 600 hours into this game and I didn't know half of those! It's not like they're just random shit either, I'll use tab and the numeral binds!
Alt-F4 saves hours and hours because then I end up not playing.
Right along now now Edwin well create the stars...
I wish there were a button for fleet upgrade. Sometimes i instinctively tryin to press "U" for it but it never works :(
Can you not just call me out in the first 8 seconds like that... jeeez
There also "V" button if you wanna split your fleet in half
Pinging is Alt+Click, not Ctrl+Alt+Click
I play on ps4 but still liked the vid
Unfortunately paradox games in general have crappy hotkeys, these are very mouse heavy games.

You need to be playing slower. Slowest speed is the best speed.
