You know what I like most about Ali compared to other travel vloggers who have been to the Philippines? Ali is different because he truly made the Filipino people the true stars of his show! How many times have we heard other travel vloggers praise Filipino hospitality and resourcefulness and sense of fun. But Ali really focused the limelight on it by experiencing it himself...he really immersed himself with the people! It is not just our beaches and rice terraces and other landmarks, it is really our people who place value and meaning to the places. The Filipino people are the tourist spots in themselves. Maybe because Ali himself is a blend of East and West (Iraqi-British), so he really connected with us Filipinos because we are a blend of East and West as well. Like us, he can speak English but he has that Asian sense of respect and camaraderie. Marunong siya makisama. More power to you, Ali. Thank you so much for allowing our people to shine. Philippines is a very poor and underdeveloped country. According to the world bank, 37% of the population still live in slums as of 2020. With a gdp per capita (PPP) of 11420 in 2023, which is only half of the world average of 22226, making it one of the poorest countries in the world. Most people there are scammers and criminals. The crime rate is very high. The intentional homicide rate is at 6.46 per 100k population which is the highest in South East Asia. If you plan to visit South East Asia, Philippines is the place where the chances are the highest to be murdered. The currency is weak and the minimum wage is only 300 USD. Foreigners from first world countries can fully take advantage of the weak currency. Also since filipinos are very poorly educated, there is abundance of this cheap labour all throughout the country. The national dish of the Philippines is called "pagpag." It's made by refrying chicken bones that have been collected from the trash. Since the majority of the people in the Philippines live in slums and lack education, a lot of them have to find discarded bones in restaurants, refry them, and eat them. I just watched your vlogs about Tondo and was amazed how friendly my kababayans there. I've never been there and back in mid 90s during my university days, Tondo reputation then was quite bad. I myself, as a local, was afraid to visit that place, even my university is just a ride jeepney away. I'm missing your vlogs but I'm still hoping you'll comeback in my country and visit the northern part of Luzon where I am originally from. God bless you, man. Jo fr the South of France
