Yes, you're correct about the bulletin. More birds/owls show up if you have more bulletin messages (i believe they match the amount of messages until they're maxed out)

The Dharma Dolls were in Wild World, City Folk, AND New Leaf though…They were even customizable by Cyrus in New Leaf

10:35 That’s actually been a thing since City Folk! But it was always the yellow bird, the owl didn’t show up until New Leaf. And yep, they indicate when there are new messages to be seen!

I’m pretty sure wild world or city folk outright tells you about the bulletin board birds at one point because I remember finding out about them from there

Yep! Actually just got Wild World a few days ago (I know, I'm a bit late with that), and one of my villagers told me that the birds on the bulletin board meant you had a new message.

A “Rover” is someone who spends their time wandering. His name could’ve been “Wander” and it would still get the same point across: he spends his life traveling the world or roving. So the roving theory is more likely to be correct.

Yes the birds arriving when there is a new bulletin is correct, I can remember it from New Leaf. Additionally, 13:35 is a mistake. Daruma as a furniture item has been available in New Leaf too, so it has not been missing for 2 decades, just thought I'd point that out there.

I have a few more obscure details to share: - Murphy (the green bear cub) is called Eddie in French. If you combine both the English and French names, you get Eddie Murphy, who's a famous actor (let me know if I'm wrong) - Pecan is the only squirrel villager to have a pattern on the belly (discovered this while messing around in Happy Home Paradise) - Audie and Skye the wolves almost have the exact same name in Italian (Lupilia for Audie and Lupilla for Skye).

About the Dharma doll, I had one in my house in animal Crossing wild world. I always thought it was creepy because when you interact with it, it makes a donk sound and it's pupils would change. But it was definitely present in the English Wild World game for sure

Yes! Had one for a while in both WW and NL. You're supposed to make a wish before closing his eye. It never left the English versions of the games.

The town hall upgrade(and ability to relocate) should be added to New Horizons or the next main game

Interesting stuff! I always thought Rover's name came from the word roaming/to roam around, and also maybe some inspiration from famous stories about cats accidentally going on long trips?

The funny thing is both version of the name maintain just calling the cat a thing (a strange cat is a thing/descriptive, and a rover is a thing/noun). Anyways, the Nintendo of America team was allowed to translate stuff, but we couldn't see the team completely change a character from being a cat to a dog. That's why Rover is still a cat, while yes that is also a classic name for a dog, it's also a thing/title/descriptive of someone much like how "Strange Cat" was.

It’s funny how most of these are pretty obscure and unknown, and then there’s the fact that the birds on top of the bulletin signify a new message 😂

Well I think the character rover is more likely to based off of the word roving ad the character always traveled as he never really had an official house or building where he could have lived in and was always met while you’re character was traveling going somewhere to move to a new town but rover stayed on the bus or train you were on forever so I think the name rover could hade a different meaning than the one proposed at around 11:57

I feel like he has to be making a dry humor joke sorts to get people to comment which boosts videos in the algorithm. _terrible Japanese accent:_ "I starta a rover and make a new town". Like bruh, thinking Rover is named for being Over is a very interesting take as Rover is literally a word and that word 1:1 describes the cat in question.

10:30 it is true, both in new leaf and new horizons. I've tested it out multiple times and is really a great feature when I need to other stuff and need to get my daily animal crossing in.

About Club LOL being Club 444 in Japan: One of the ways that characters in Japanese media laugh is "shi-shi-shi" So while Club Death Death Death does sound amazing, I'm pretty sure it's supposed to be their way of having a similar name to Club LOL

my favourite non villager character is Sable as i’ve also related to her even as a kid, and my favourite villager character is Apollo as he was my first friend when i was a kid. kind of sad, i know, but i love them both :))

Rover's name could also be a joke related to how it's usually a dog name, but is used for a cat. ^^

The Club 444 name is actually a double meaning. Like you said, Shrunk's JPN name is Shisho, which reading 444 a certain way could be read as "shishiyo", but, it also serves as a joke on how Shrunk isn't a particularly good comedian, as "shishishi" is a way of laughing dryly, as one would do in polite response to a bad joke. So, it's basically just him saying "Hey, this is my club, come here for a laugh!"

Hi, great video! In response to the small birds and owls that appear on the board I can confirm that they appeared in New Leaf (or welcome amiibo at least). They appear on the board whenever there's a new message (birds in the day, owls at night) and in the campsite area. The owls like sitting on the roof and the birds hop about the area. Sometimes one of the birds is sat on Harvey's head which is sweet. You can occasionally get him to talk to you about them by clicking the "Heya Harv" dialogue option 🙂

Rip Club LOL. That music STILL gives me goosebumps. It's odd that New Leaf is the most nostalgic game in the series to me. I started New Leaf back in 2017, meanwhile I had been playing Population Growing since like 2006. I guess it's probably just cuz I had more to worry about in 2017, and with New Leaf being an escape it's a lot more cozy? Idk.

Kicks is not specifically an Oliver Twist reference, he's a reference to an overall archetype of "young Victorian boy working on the street"

city folk was the first game to introduce the bird/owl on the message board! when i was little, before new leaf came out, i thought it was possible to catch the bird in city folk. i tried soooo hard to do it

the bird thing definitely indicates a new bulletin, i have had a villager tell me so

I'm always baffled by the idea that a canvas with some random lines and two colored squares is considered some grrat and famous work of art

Well abstract art is supposed to challenge the idea of art as a whole. Should only greatly detailed works like the Mona Lisa be considered art? I wish I could show you what I made for my painting class recently for our emotional abstract art unit. One of my pieces is just a thin tip of yellow proceeding to blend into blue flowing down like thick paint and pooling at the bottom. Some people guessed the emotion was calm, or relaxed, or sadness, or tiredness. But nobody got it until I said what it actually was, Disappointment, then everyone was like “That looks just like that emotion!”. Why am I telling you all this even if you’ll never read it? Because art is subjective to the viewer, everyone feels a different way about art because of their own experiences. And abstract art is pure, raw subjectiveness.

I always thought of Rover’s name as a reference perhaps to the “Red Rover Red Rover, send someone on over” game. And the fact that his name is Rover is ironic since it’s usually a dog name and he’s a cat.

"Rover" could be interpreted as "person who roves" which means "constantly moving around" as well as a funny play on words, because he's a cat named rover, and its funny.

Animal Crossing New Leaf was my first AC game, and when I was a kid I thought the Club LOL was Club 101, I don’t know why but yeah. 😂 13:27 those dolls are in New Leaf, I’m 90% confident about…I think. 😂

the bird thing on the sing is true from my experience like can try it in the same day if you see them run close they leave then without interacting leave / reload the area and they will be back but this time interact with the board they will leave and look at all the messages then reload and they won't come back till there is a new message on the board

The town bulletin board birds appear whenever something new is written on it, and were introduced in City Folk. Also they did my girl Bangle dirty by not putting her in Pocket Camp.

dharmas were present in wild world, city folk, and new leaf actually, and in new leaf you could customize them through cyrus to be golden

"they became rovers who departed further and further from civilization" " Google says it best, Merriam-Webster just has the 2nd definition as being a link to "Wanderer" and "Roamer". Likewise, hey now at least you know why NASA calls their stuff the Lunar Rover and Mars Rover.

It’s not too common anymore, but someone who went from place to place was and is still called a rover, because they’re roving about :) A good example is the classic folk song, the rambling rover.

Hey Elijah, just found your channel recently and love it! Take a look at the title screen around 4:32 in the video where Reneigh is trying to catch the butterfly; it looks like at least on the title screen the Villagers don't have a hitbox for catching critters with the net? I couldn't tell you if this is only on the title screen, but it looks like she missed by either a couple inches/centimeters, or the Villager selected for the title screen in NH just can't catch anything. This is something very small, but have you happened to notice it before? I'm gonna keep an eye out in my own game and other videos in the meantime until I can confirm I'm not crazy here lol

The Japanese name means "strange cat." In America, Rover used to be a pretty common dog name. A dog is a pretty strange cat. I also think it's a reference to travelling over land - you only ever see Rover while they're travelling, therefore they're literally a rover.

The bulletin board birds are also in city folk (Wii) so unless Wild World (DS) has the bird that’s the origin

4:05 Nintendo tries to make villagers unique but then added Chabwick. Don't get me wrong I love the penguins and they are my favourite villagers and my favourite animal IRL. But when they added Chabwick I was disappointed to get another lazy penguin. There are 5 lazy penguins now. Chabwick also has the same hobby as Cube. I love Chabwick but it would have been nice to have another Sisterly, Peppy, Normal, Smug or Cranky penguin, since there's only one of each of those personalties for the penguins
