The person who burned counters-tops with incense did so because they (probably) smoke pot and use the incense to cover the smell. That probably also explains why they keep burning the counter-tops. They get so high, they forget.

A possibility as to why the one individual would get kicked out by their mom is because they are CLEARLY a fire-code violation and recklessly forgetful with things relating to fire. Never leave incense, candles, stoves, ovens, microwaves, ANYTHING that requires heat in general; do not leave these things unsupervised. Doing so accidentally once is understandable, we all have accidents, but three times and then a fourth? Now you're just endangering yourself. Trying to cover and hide it is also just going to get you in so much more trouble than being honest about it, because it's only a matter of time before your parents find what you've hid, and when they do they'll be more than just angry. (Sorry, kind of went off there... Had an older sister who is estranged in recent years for something unrelated to this, but she did on a fifth occasion leave her incense burning in her bathroom and forgot about it. Due to that, she nearly burned the house down because the incense broke and caught the toilet paper on fire, which spread to the nearby shower curtain. I was six, and she was supposed to be watching me and my younger brother, and instead she had her music on with her headset to ignore us, because sure we didn't want to get yelled at, but when we saw the smoke she got mad at us for disturbing her. She rightfully got in trouble for the fire since luckily a neighbor saw the fire through the bathroom window and called the department, which broke our door off the hinges to pull us outside. The bedroom had been full of smoke so they couldn't tell how big the fire was, and afterwards said sister had to sleep at our grandmother's for a year since she was kicked out, but she got back into the house by getting a job and paying for the damages. To this day, nobody in our family trusts her with looking after anyone or any home. Probably for the best, because in recent years she kept having close-calls with causing fires, and as of last week finally did something stupid. Last week she lit an incense and forgot about it, and her house burned down. It killed their family dog because he couldn't get out, and both terrified and broke the heart of my young nephew with ADD. He's a sweet child, tries his best, and that dog was his world. Instead of taking and owning up to what she caused, she blamed the deceased dog for not getting out of the house. A house she locked when she went to the bar. She had said this in front of her nephew, and I know she did, because her second husband was filming the destruction and it caught her shouting in the background.)
