in order of price. this person is organized!

You should have thousands of hits. This is so instructive, professional and well done...unlike so many other mic comparison videos. And the frequency responses are shown the during singing. Lets the listener correlate frequency curves with the timbre of each specific mic.

That Peluso though, wow sounded so good on her voice. The one that surprised me the most was the MD421 and how round it sounded to me. Thanks for this video!

The Neumans and Peluso sound like gold with their silky smooth top end and their upfront presence

Verry nice simple review love it, no long sideways

What important is when the female mic can cover from altos to sopranos nicely with clean strong lows to the smooth high tones. The demos here is good but could run through the extreme lows and extreme high to see which one can bring out the strong clean lows and the present of smooth listening high.

I think for the Price is AKG Solid Tube the Best. But the smoothest was the Neumann 87

t.bone mics are AMAZING! I have been using them since 2002! I have owned Neumanns (TLM-49, KM 184, KMS 105) and the Slate VMS ML1 and ML2. The t.bone SC-1100 is a serious mic and can take EQ like a champ! I have paired it with EQP-KT and KT-2A into my RME UCX and goodness!

Dam, I really like how you set this up with the rising prices. I think with the newer options for KZread you could have each mic with its own little 15 sec section to bounce back and forth to compare mics with less time in between. I hope someone else out there sees how you've done it and copies because this was great, thanks.

It is a weird thing that your content is so good, but not that many people notices, hope you reach 1k subs soon, honestly

They are all different and have their own function. What surprises me the most is that some microphones give the feeling of a "young voice", and yet some give the feeling of the voice of a "more mature woman". The acoustics of the space are different in almost all microphones. Very interesting and instructive.

the telefunken sounds so warm its not fair

One important detail that is not shown on youtube is if one specific mic records a sound that can take EQ easily. Some mics are harsh on specific frequencies and the sound is almost impossible to be fixed. In few cases a cheap mic can also produce a sound that by EQ can sound more close to a Neumann. Also depends trough what preamp you run the mic. In my case I have a Rode NT1A with stock capsule changed to a K47 version and runned trough a dedicated preamp (neve73 clone). The sound obtained is huge and from a different league. Just my 2 cents ✌

Downloaded the video into a USB pen and plugged into my Blu-ray player which acts as DAC connected to my Hi-Fi setup (FET preamp and IGBT power amp both fitted with Russian K40Y9 caps, Intertechnik Audyn Plus caps and Amtrans carbon film resistors; Indiana Line Tesi 260 speakers fiitted with Mundorf Evo Oil caps and NorStone speaker cables; Van Den Hul D102 III Hybrid cables and NorStone speaker cables). To my ears the best one is the Neumann U-87, being very rich yet balanced. 2nd and 3rd place: M-147 and TLM-103 respectively. Then the T.Bone SC 1100 which is incredibly good for the price and sounds very similar to the TLM-103. All the rest is either too skinny / bright (especially the dynamic ones) or too warm / muffled. Of course, all of that without hearing in person the singer, which is very beautiful by the way.

"Downloaded the video" the audio is comprised after been uploaded to YT, HiFi setup is not gonna make it much better. You better ask for the raw files.

Results from my blind test. No price, brand, reputation - just sound. These are short clips and very dependent on the vocalist in this video (for her voice and this track) - not an overall judgment on these mics. 5 star: AT 2020, CAD Equitak, TLM 103, U-87 4 star: Audix i5, Shure SM58, TBone SC1100, MD 421, Peluso 3 star: Audix OM6, Shure SM7B, MD-441, M-147 2 star: TBone RB500, AKG 3000B, AKG Solid Tube, TBone RM700 1 star: AKG D-190, Telefunken Ribbon Vintage, Sonotronics Stigma I normally regard the AT2020 as an average mic, but on her voice it works very well. I also haven't heard of the CAD Equitak until now but it sounds nice. I would've expected the SM58 to sound average and bland but it sounded good here. I'm not surprised at the SM7B rated at 3 stars because it's not a mic ideal for everyone's voice, and what helps broadcasting isn't the same as what helps this song. Some of these mics, like the Telefunken Ribbon, I assume are just guitar mics and never really meant for vocals. I probably rate the D-190 last.

103 Knocks everything else out the ballpark. That, the U-87 and the SM58 were my 3 favourites. Wish you went with the SM57 instead tho.

damn when the song in the end i got insane goosebumps. just because the singer did so well and the contrast was like WOW. She really imparted her own flavor on that line.

Ok. So the REAL surprise here was the T.Bone SC 1100. For a $100 mic, that's pretty impressive.

that was my first mic and it is really great for that price... from the t bone i liked only the sct 800 better for my voice... but i think the real winner here for me and what i am searching is the neumann m147

Neumann TLM 103, AKG Solid Tube and Sonotronics Sigma were best sounding in my opinnion. Neumann is most natural of them but it depends what kind of sound you want

Thanks for doing this! It was a welcome break from all the dude-heavy You Tubes. I was surprised that I preferred her voice on the TLM 103 vs the U87. It had more clarity, openness & presence. I own a 102, but am looking for a comparison with the 103 (on a female vocal) if anyone finds anything on YT! Thanks :)

Not a comparison as such but a great example I just saw a few days ago. It was Billie Eilish and her Bro doing a series called Tiny Desk and they are using two TLM-103's. He has them angled and at a bit of a distance and they sound awesome. He (Finneas) did the audio as they did it from home because of the co-vid thing. If you read the comments everybody is amazed at the sound quality and how clear the vocals are. I think with the proper eq set-up like they have the sound is hard to top really. Even when they were younger they did an acoustic thing called Nylon and Billie sang into a Shure SM7b and the sound quality was superb. Good luck.

Tlm 103 gives you modern pop vocal kind of sound. The other ones are vintage era mics which does'nt push the highs so much but have smooth response on both lows mid and highs which is really usefull.

Great song by the Sun Rockets at the end. He's got a great voice.

Нормальный мик, из дорогих на студ. мониторах лучше всего звучат Neumann TLM 103 - Neumann U87 из дешевых однозначно лучший The T.Bone SC1100 . Теперь всем его советовать буду у кого бюджет минимальный ,он звучит даже лучше чем замыленый роде нт-1а

I think the AT-2020 sounds great and might have the best value. I'd love to see the Stellar X2/X3 thrown in here.

I think the AT-2020 is one of the most overrated budget mics, it always sounds very brittle and is very resonant in the high end. The t-bone actually did a much better job keeping some warmth in the low mids and has a smoother sounding top end aswell.

Peluso all the way :-)

im between and at2020 or a sm57, this is so hard for myself

I really like the RB500, sounds very sleak and warm, very vintage! RB700 was a bit overkill with the dullness

Wow! this is shocking revelation! Those t.bone are killer for price. Fantastic! t.B RB500 is a killer for my taste. Cad equitek e1002 would buy anytime, and SC1100 is great cost vise mike for all who like more bright unforgiving sensitive mike but it is not my taste.

The t.bone series is seriously a gem if you're on a budget, they sound fantastic and the construction quality is very good, too!

It's hard to chose one!.

I wonder what that "Telefunken Ribbon" really is. They show up at eBay Germany regularly along with some dubious Decca sdcs. Isn't it so that Telefunken never made mics but they sold Neumann and AKG specially made for them with their Seal or Logo…as far as i know? And furthermore they never had any Ribbons in their pro-catalog? My guess is these Vintage Telfunken Ribbons were thrown together from existing parts by somebody and then this person just glued a well known logo on them, i might be wrong, but if anybody could lift the clouds of my knowledge, that might be interesting…nothing wrong about the mics but are these really TELFUNKEN mics?

Thanks for this! I thought the U87 was best but it really depends on the voice and the music accompaniment. What surprised me the most was how good the AT2020 sounded. That is a very cheap microphone!

MidnightMiik listen again to the AT2020. The response is wide and flat so it fools you into thinking it’s better than it is. Listen to the detail and character of the midrange. There is no midrange detail. It’s a good mic for a podcast but not good for recording music.

CAD Equitek for her voice and the Telefunken Ribbon a close 2nd.

Surprisingly, AKG C3000B did good for her voice. Slightly warm and smooth in the high mids, but not muffled. Maybe a winner for me. I also liked CAD e300 and Neumann TLM 103. Cad was quite neutral and TLM opened the vocal up, maybe a bit too much, but still nice. U87 would maybe sound great in a mix, but solo it's a bit too cutting. I'd maybe still pick C3000B over it, which is funny. None of the ribbons did much good here, and SM7b was a disappointment, quite lackluster. I like the good old and cheaper SM58 far more.

I just asked myself the same question a few hours ago but with the SM57. My first mic was a SM57 clone, then other mics followed, the thing is I never had any issues (sound and tech-wise) with the 57s (clones and originals) they just sound right for whatever I use them on. Later I "upgraded" and all of a sudden, it was often way harder to get a good recorded sound, a problem I never had experienced before. In fact I wasn't even aware, that you can have these kind of issues when recording a source because I never had them with the 57s. Also just today, I had an issue with a matched pair of small d. cond mics, out of the blue, one of them had a signal loss and was about 10db quieter than the other one, yesterday they worked perfectly fine. What is also funny, you get a whole new appreciation for the SM57s because you realize, they are even better than you realized, which only enhances, as more as you compare them with other mics. I guess they just did it right back in the day with the SM57s and SM58s... Sometimes the stars are aligned!

Never even heard of AKG D190 but that one was very strong. That and Sennheiser MD 441 were top for me. U87 is too sanitized.

I think, without the information about wich mic was used, some cheap ones would do the race. Like a blindstudie.

After blindly listening 3 times on my A7x speakers I can tell that AKG D-190C was the worst, but like in really sucked lol... and the first mic t.bone rm700 was surprisingly good, I was quite shocked to see the price of that. The Peluso is a joke at that price...I mean, it's decent, but the worst t.bone in this shoot out sounds in the same range (except the rm700 which sounds better). Come on, are these guys at Peluso still in business? :)) I think the best sounding on her voice was the U87. And again, I did a blind listening. PS: the ribbon from Sontronics was also WOW! I was pretty shocked to see it's just a ribbon. I've put that on my purchase list next to the rm700.

The D190 was terrible. The Peluso I rated favorably in the blind test, but yes, it's a ripoff. If I had her voice, from a bang for buck perspective, I would get the CAD, AT 2020 and SM58 I kind of figured out the Sonotronics mic wasn't really made for vocals because of how differently it sounded from the others, and when I did watch the footage after the blind test it picked up mud even as she was at a safe distance.
