WD-40 is a bad lube, it is more a solvent than a lube - and it is a bad rust buster for tight screws - best Dexron III + Laque Thinner

WD-40 was not made for use as a lubricrant. WD-40 (water displacement formula 40) was designed to remove and protect against water. People use it as a lubricant because it works as one for short periods of time. The one scene shows using it to remove the squeak from a hinge, that is a temporary fix only. Use something like lithium grease (also available in aerosol cans) if you want long lasting squeak relief.

WD40 is not a lubricant. It will work as a temporary lubricant, but it wears away quickly. Use oil or teflon spray to lubricate. WD40 is a water displacement tool. Hence, the WD.

Tooth paste and WD40 to clean crayon was a good idea and it improves on the using of WD40 only that I used to do.

I have used WD40 as a quickie liquid car polish for years. Lasts about a month, has never adversely affected any part of the car, and is easy to re-apply. Also cures glitchy electical switches.

Yes, it does work for that - but even then, there are better products. WD-40 was designed to displace water and thus prevent rusting - and nothing else - definitely don't want to use it as a lube as it dries tacky and attracts dust - thus having the opposite effect. Also dissolves rubber - so anything with o-rings will be ruined. As a manufacturing maintenance manager I banned WD-40 from the production floor. We saw a 15% increase in uptime just from that. These use-it-for-everything videos are inaccurate and harmful.
