The original Hershey's Whatchamacallit bars didn't have caramel in them, just the peanut butter/rice krispie mix surrounded by chocolate. Liked it better that way.

I concur.
Loads of these candies are gone due to Corporate buy outs. Hershey and Mars did a buy up war in the 1980s and that’s where the lost candies went. Memories only. Unless they produced one hot selling candy everything disappeared. York Peppermint patty is a great example. York made other candies but Hershey only makes the Peppermint patty.
My Dad used to buy me a Marathon bar back in '76 for 10 cents...whenever we would take a long country drive. My 2nd fav was the Choco-lite bar of the same time period ! Great memories video, Thanks !

Growing up in the 70's.. one year I decided to start collecting candy bar wrappers. So I bought a different candy bar every day throughout that summer and saved the wrappers! I still have them all :)
"Marathon Bar" loved that one cause it was big !! Not only was our candy and music better then so were the commercials !! I remember Patrick Wayne doing the ones for Marathon. 👍👍
The American version of the Mars Bar was fantastic. I miss it. It was discontinued in 2002 and "replaced" with the Snickers Almond Bar, but it's not the same or as good.
Thanks for the great video. It is always a treat to go back and look at candy bars of the past. The Marathon bar had a great taste. Wish they would bring it back!

Cadburry ended up with the rights to the Marathon bar, they've been available since the late 90's as the Curly Whirly bar.
Marathon was a great candy bar.
I worked for a vending company for about 6 years, the "unritten "rule was you could eat what you wanted during the day,as long as you didn't overdo it[of course some did, occasionally some driver would get busted for meeting his old lady at a gas station and putting a box[100 pks]of chips into her car]however, we had a candy roomfull of large boxes of smaller boxes of all the types of candy,i usually went in there on the way home and put 4-5 snickers into my baggy shorts pockets on friday for the weekend. was at the dollar general this morning and was thinking about getting a zero bar, i think it was $2... glad my kids are grown!

a couple that ARE still around but i never or very rarely see, that i always liked.. Charleston Chew (especially the strawberry one) and the Zero bar (white fudge and nougat) a more recent one i did really like when it first came out, then i think they "improved" it and it wasn't so good, and now it's gone (i think) was the hershey's Gold bar, "caramelized creme with peanuts and pretzels"

Cracker Barrel restaurants have a good selection of old time candy.
When I was a kid you could get a Baby Ruth (& other brands) for 25 cents, now they're $2. After Wednesday night church service we had hot dogs & sodas in the lower level, 15 cents for hot dog 10 cents for Pepsi, out the old drink machine that had the little door where you pulled the Glass bottle straight out, good times.

5 cents in the 1950s.
I bought some Curly Wurlys on Amazon, hoping they would resemble my long lost Marathon Bar. Alas, disappointment was my reaction when I received them. The closest thing I've found to the actual texture and content of the classic Marathon is the Rolo.
Marathon was my fav, but I remember, and grew up with, 90% of these. Thank you so much for the trip back in time! I wish they would bring all of these back!!!
The Marathon bar (and the Nestle Choco'Lite bar that was introduced at about the same time) were just ways to sell you air with your candy. When 70s inflation went away, it's no surprise that they went away too.
That Milkshake brought the boys to the yard!
I remember Marathon , it woud probably do well if they brought it back .

I LOVED those Marathons, Reggie and the malt bars!!! The milk shakes were best when frozen! The Reggie bar was just a round Baby Ruth.
THANK YOU! I FEEL LIKE I'm the only one who remembers the marathon bar, I loved it. I started thinking it was in my head, that I made it up!
As a kid growing up in the 1970s I'll never forget Caravelle bars and Almond Cluster bars bought at the neighborhood variety store. Those were the days...

My fave, but it cost a DIME!
I used to love Marathon, actually fought my bully in 2nd grade because he was stealing my Marathon bar. He had beat up everyone parents were taking their kids to other schools. However, my Dad said "If you don't take up for yourself then let him enjoy your Marathon bar" and I took it for a few more days and one day I was so mad I just got up my nerves and hit him with everything I had and we fought all over the classroom and he may have gotten the best of me (twice my size) but I put some hits on him and never backed down from anyone ever again. I'm 59 and would still rather have my butt whipped than to let another man think I'm scared. Thanks to my Dad for not moving me to other schools like some and I learned a good lesson. Marathon bars were delicious. I can't believe they quit making them!
I wish I could have tried a 7 up bar. That would be like eating a box of chocolates. Yum!
I miss the Oh Henry candy bar, loved those! 😋👍

🤯 Marathon bars, I totally forgot, and now am in shame😢...😁Tks for bringing it back to memories.👏
Interestingly, here in the UK the Snickers bar was called "Marathon" before it was renamed in the 90s to bring it into line with Europe and the US....but what the US called "Marathon", we called (and still call) "Curly Wurly"....although as I recall, Curly Wurlys in the 80s when I was a kid were MUCH longer than the ones you can buy today
I Find The Whatchamacalit candy bars As like the milkshake bars too.

how about the chunky milk chocolate "chunk'. i know they still have the peanut version, but to those of us with nut allergies it is missed.
I remember in the 60's. I had 45 cents. I would go to 7-11 and get a candy bar, a large pixie stick, some jolly ranchers and an Icee + tax. Marathon bar was good
Abandoned, because they stopped making it, but I will never forget it. I ♥️d them
I haven’t thought about half of these in years.
Omg I remember the marathon bar! Hell yeah! Thank you for this. I even recall the commercial for the marathon bar.
The concession stand at Budd Lake in NJ sold frozen Milkshake bars on popsicle sticks. They took forever to eat, but were a great treat in the summer.
That Reggie bar could have stayed around, but now we have people running around who don’t even know who Reggie was.
I enjoyed this but someone got something wrong. The Cabana bar had coconut and cherries, not coconuts and almonds. But I am now hungry for all of them.

I was really upset when candy bars went from 15 cents to a quarter in the late 70's - the Milkshake was my favorite - the Marathon was great too.
I really miss the Choco Lite and Marathon Bars.
Had the space food sticks in the 1980s here in Australia 🇦🇺
You can get many of these at Cracker Barrel.
Being a kid in the 60s I miss most of them!
Loved the raising Chunky's..
A marathon pulled out one of my fillings.
Milkshake candy bar’s and butter nut candy bars were 2 of my favorites and I miss them today
OMG!!! I forgot about these candies.... Yummmm!
I remember Marathon! It took all afternoon to eat it! Loved Summit & PB Maxx. Also remember Bar None & Power House.
Add in Mars bars, Zagnut, Clark bars, Chunky, and Mallow cups, it's a wonder I have any teeth left. My favorite was the Milkshake bar. We had a mom-and-pop neighborhood grocery store that would put the milkshake bars in their ice cream freezer. It would bust your teeth up but oh so good. I could buy 6 full sized candy bars for a quarter. This was late 60s early 70s.
Butter Nut was my favorite.
ZAGNUT.....good luck finding these!!
The 70's was a great decade✌🏼
That Reggie bar sounds delicious. I still eat Clark bars.
MAN! I had forgotten a bunch of those! Those old commercials are imbedded in my brain! All that candy probably cost me a few teeth! 😢 But it was perfect when you were getting lost in the latest comic! Other than an occasional Reece’s Cup, I rarely eat candy anymore, but now you got me craving it!
One you didn’t mention that is gone now was the Mars Bar. 😟 I really liked that one.
I want a BarNone, glad you included it
Loved'em all!!😀
I’m in my 60’s and used to consider myself a candy bar expert. However I have never heard of several of the CurlyWurly, Coconut Grove or the Cabana. But I would love to see a Seven Up make a comeback
I had forgotten about John Wayne’s son Pat doing the commercial for marathon bars.
Back in the 70s I would go into a Revco drug store they had Butternut candy bars only place I could find them . I loved them and after they stopped selling them never knew they discontinued them.
I opened wide for many a Chunky over the years. That was my Saturday afternoon movie favorite. Butter Nut was another favoritel
The Reggie Bar actually made a short comeback when the man himself actually got inducted into the baseball Hall of Fame back in 1993. I know because I remember buying some of them that year.
Forever yours = Milky Way Midnight. Available at just about every gas station in my area. Oh! Henry is also still available.
I don't remember "kicking leaves" or "rainy day movie watching" quite so much in the 1970's but okay... "consumer tastes" did change a lot though ;-)
I loved those candy bars. I wish some candy shop would bring old candy back like marathon.
Anybody remember No Jelly? Chocolate covering peanut butter but No Jelly. Early 70s and they went away fairly quickly. Probably supposed to compete w Reese’s.

Hell yeah I remember them!!! I tore those little bastards up!! Those and PB Max. ( anything chocolate and peanut butter, you can count me in....)
Marathon bar was my favorite use to freeze them hit them on the counter then open and eat the pieces one at a time lasted all day ❤ I wish they would bring it back! I also love the space bars. My mom would hand me one on my way out the door in the morning because I was not a breakfast eater
I remember PB Max and was even wondering if it was going to be mentioned here. Happily, all I had to do was wait 11 minutes.
Does anybody else remember the penny candy section at 7-11?
"Homework, homework! Give me a break!"
I definitely remember almost all of these, and like many people here I have to agree the Marathon bars were pretty amazing. I knew of the 7up bars, but never was able to have one, though I had the smaller version of it called Sky Bar which I believe is still available to purchase.
REGGIE's ROCKED!
You can still find Black Cow, but only in the form of little wrapped candies, also Slo Poke, but neither are still made on a stick!
💖 Loved me the Seven Up bar.
I'm almost 80 and remember only the Oh Henry candy bar (which was a rip off of Baby Ruth). Most of these had the exact same ingredients though so it isn't any surprise they failed.
Space sticks were one of my favorites. Marathon Bars were great for pulling baby teeth!
Milkshake was my favorite by far. I still miss it!
