    I doubt they are trying to impress with the price. Although, there is a market out there for those wanting things unaffordable to most. I highly doubt that is the case here. I look at bike prices like any other vehicle price and then compare it to buying my "affordable" Ford Escape or that really sweet Porche I always wanted - wanted from the age of six. Instead of forgetting about it my loving family thoughtfully gifts me Porche models I get to assemble then display around the house. Holidays, birthdays, and anniversaries are easily handled with my go-to gift Sixteen models now all the exact same car my wife will "divorce me over if I ever dare buy it, take the house, dog, and kids without looking back." Undoubtedly, leading to her completely selfless justification then reasoning behind buying herself that red convertible BMW she likes - only because it matches her favorite shoes. That is crazy!!! I put together a ebike, buying the parts myself off Alibaba. 2 grand!!! Speeds up to 70 miles per hour. These bike companies are marking these things up almost a thousand percent. People are getting hosed by the popularity. People!!! Find a bike shop online that will build one for you. You'll get it at half price withe twice the speed and range.

    Seems pedal/crank drivetrains are included on half of the models shown so that they can still be categorized as “ebikes” - If you notice, hardly anyone here is pedaling, instead just using the throttle to zoot around - Note that maximum mile range per battery-charge as specified by a manufacturer is dependent on basically full-time pedaling while in a lower assist-level mode, and on mostly flat roads… Deterring from this, let alone using the throttle for part or all of a given journey, will reduce an advertised range significantly.

  • @mindseyedesign

    @mindseyedesign

    Very true. Peddling an ebike is effortless helping to extend ride time/distance. My Hemingway goes around 27mph max with peddle assisting. I rarely feel a need to go over 15 to 20 in normal day to day riding. 20 mph max w/o peddle assist. In most places any ebike with or without peddles reaching over 30mph quickly becomes classified a motorcycle.

    It boils down to wants vs. needs. Do you feel the same way about non-electric bikes priced from around $100 at Walmart to tens of thousands of dollars for a spandex-wearing aerodynamic cycling enthusiast's non-electric bike? I have ridden $1500 and $6000 electric bikes, and there is a vast difference in the quality top to bottom. Yes, you can build your own. Building your ebike - an efficient electric motor is 500+ you can add it to a 100-dollar Walmart bike, wire on a battery, lights, throttle, basket, cup holder, and USB charger, then show everyone how you got a good value at $999+ w free labor. Never mind the time involved. Amazon sells electric bikes for around $600+. Again, it's about saving money, not quality so "affordable" for most. Having said all that, I don't think any company will make money over-pricing bikes. There's just too much competition not to sell around market value. These bike companies need to sell hundreds of cycles trying to cover expenses. Based on my experience featuring hundreds of electric bikes over the years, all the bikes in this video are at fair market value and competitively priced.

    Back in the day I bought a bicycle to commute to work and get exercise at the same time. Now that I'm retired I bought a tadpole trike to get exercise and enjoying the ride. Ebikes cause the power plants to burn more coal or natural gas creating more CO2 to charge the batteries.. These ebikes have taken a pollution free activity and made it a CO2 producer. What is the gain there? We should be looking for ways to use LESS energy produced by power plants and using our own body power. Let's save some of the natural reasorces for future generations. The batteries and motors need rare earths ( metals) and cause more mining to extract these elements from the ground, I don't see a gain there either. It takes lots of energy to dig out the needed materials causing even MORE pollution! Get a normal bike or trike and just ride. Another benefit is that bikes and trikes can be made from recycled materials!

    The carbon footprint from an ebike is far less than a car, or gas anything. I guess if you are riding the thing around all day long running through batteries every month, along with a large percentage of others doing the same excessive joy riding that could potentially be almost as bad as a far less percentage of people doing the exact same thing with gas fueled weedwhackers. If e bikes help cut down on gas/oil usage, traffic congestion, and noise pollution ammoung other things the benefits far out weight the cons. Energy itself is becoming much cleaner to produce with solar, wind and other greener methods rapidly progressing. No electric vehicles are not perfect by any means. They are however a far better option for the environment than gas engines in every way.

    @@stevemadden1513 environmental damage from mining is still damage. China puts out the most pollution of any country on earth. India is right behind them. Back in the hippy days the goal was to get back to nature. That was their plan to save the world. I still believe we should use less of the natural resources. We would all be better off if we did that.
