20 British Slang Phrases and Expressions - English Vocabulary Lesson
PLEASE NOTE: there's a small mistake in the video text titles. At 6:12 the sentence says '...can't start smiling', while the correct text should be '...can't stop smiling', as the presenter says. Apologies!
In this lesson, you can learn about British slang.
If I told you I was feeling knackered today, would you know I meant? If I asked you to buy some bog roll on your way home, would you know what I wanted? Confused?
These are example of British slang, and they can be difficult for non-native speakers to understand and use correctly. But don’t worry, we’re going to help.

What is the diffrent between slang and colloquail language
@Oxfordonlineenglish1
4 жыл бұрын
Hi Rima, 'colloquial language' is actually the umbrella term that includes slang words. 'Colloquial' refers to words or expressions that are use in general conversation by native speakers.
Great lesson guys, I've seen dozens of slang videos and still found some new words. D'ont mean to offend anyone, but boy you need a better video editor...

It depends on the level of formality with the question. Usually, you want to stick more to English that is generally understandable, especially if your examiner wouldn't understand British slang.
If the spoken sentences are shown below with your talking, it will be easy to learn for us.

'to splash out' - isn't it a bit Pete Tong to list it as a food slang? It simply means to spend a lot of dole, not necessarily on food. eg He lost the plot when he splashed out 10 grand on his nose job.

It's commonly used for food, but can be used to talk about spending more money that usual, especially on a luxury. Thanks for watching!

Hi there, thanks for watching! It's important to remember that each teacher is filming their part of your lesson from different parts of the world! They are not even in the same room! Therefore, when editing the video, it can be difficult to put each person's line of sight directly lined up to the other. Glad you enjoyed the lesson!
