I'm retired and finally have the time to learn to play differently from the last 50 years when I only played intermittently and with a pick. I suffered a mild stroke a few years ago that affected my right side, this made playing with a pick impossible. I tried fingerpicking as I could anchor my right hand on the guitar. I discovered this guy and utube Recently. This has renewed my enthusiasm for guitar, I am so grateful this has changed my life for the better. Many thanks to you all.

I am amazed and impressed with this young man. I can tell from his subtle accent that he is at least bilingual (or trilingual et cetera), but he actually expresses himself better and more clearly in American English than 99% of the teachers on YT. And even more impressive is that his presentation is thorough and well-organized. No slick studio or wall covered with $10,000 guitars, just a living room couch with dogs on it combined with 100% rock-solid substance and content. Amazing guy. Whatever program this guy is selling, I'm going to buy it if only to help him out. He is someone who should be promoted on YT.

I spent a few hours working with this 1 hour lesson and practicing. While I anticipate there's still a lifetime of work before I will ever master this technique, it's pretty obvious to me that before long, I'll be incorporating this into my playing. This is a well organized worthwhile lesson and worth the time and blister on your thumb.

Three weeks ago I couldn't do anything but the most rudimentary fingerpicking, and it was very, very weak and sloppy. In that time I've gone through and practiced all the exercises in this video, and now I can do all of them pretty damn well, and I even arranged a Travis picking solo for I'm So Lonesome I Could Cry. Nothing is better than the feeling of accomplishment after leveling up in your craft! Thank you Assaf! You're an incredible teacher!

A couple of comments....first off I love the interaction w/ Lick & Riff, great stuff :) You obviously are a gifted teacher....I need no more proof other than the fact that I actually sat down for an hour & watched the entire video. Travis picking is my thing, I'm determined to master it in my lifetime. The next to last exercise sounded an awful lot like one of the licks in WIndy & Warm, a John D. Loudermilk tune as arranged & played by Doc Watson. I've always loved that particular arrangement. I'm grateful there are ppl like yourself on the internet that give so much of themselves to help ppl like me learn to play. Thanks very much!

I see this post is from 8 years ago and I'm 64 and been playing since I was 11. Almost through Aaron Shearers first book on classical and have been fingerpicking for a couple years now. I do some Travis picking but I'm hoping this will get my playing even better. I'm still messing with the first maybe 10 measures of the fish...lol...been able to play mood for a day for years. Most of all I love your style of teaching. You are very personable and sincere. Thank you for sharing your extensive knowledge. Oh, and another thing. Doing classical I never use a pick and everyone else teaching Merle's style uses a thumpick so I'm glad you dont. I dont think Chet Atkins gets enough notoriety from this picking style as I think he actually started it, among other things. Thanks again.

I've watched a lot of Travis picking tutorials, but this is so much better. Clear, methodical and so well-presented in a way that most of us need for effective learning. You may have ADHD but this has not in any way affected your ability to teach at all. It may actually help. That's a well played acoustic. And if it's well played then it's well loved. Thanks again, this has really helped a lot. Disclaimer: No dogs were harmed in the making of this video! 😀 Greetings from Scotland. 👍

I want to know what these 47 people didnt like about this video. This guy is amazing. Best pacing for a tutorial by far on youtube. Showing the tabs as well, and a great personality that makes this lesson intuitive and fun to watch

Really good lesson, the odd thing is I struggle with the initial easy bits but when it gets to the licks and harder stuff I find it alot easier.

I have been trying to Travis pick for around six months now. I Love Chet Atkins (Mr Guitar), Jerry Reed, Merle Travis, Tommy E to name only a few (Greats) off this style of guitar playing. So i have been trying different sites on you tube but got no where with regards to other teachers. Then bam... I saw your page and came across this video. Ya Dancer!!!(Scottish saying;)). Your style and personality make it easy for me to follow your instructions. Also love the way you encourage your students to find the own style around your arrangements and to go with it!! Class... Take a bow sir:) I have been at this video for only two days and i feel i have improved so much in such a short time! Something in my head just seems to have clicked and everything seems so much clearer. So i am very happy! I was told while learning the guitar that i would get to the point. Where everything would click in to place... But never believed i was capable of Travis picking. So Thank You LnR. P.s I have been trying to learn Anji by Bert Janch, not the original Davy Graham version. I will email you to see if it is possible? Thanks again :-) Steve Fae Scotland
