So many beautiful breeds I haven't seen in the States! I'm lucky enough to have some silkies at least, they're my absolute favorites. So sweet and gentle - and I have one that's a good five years old that's still laying regularly.

Wow thats great! Some of the old breeds do lay eggs for a very long time and can be healthy for much more than ten years. best greetings from Austria

+Robert Höck ja!, meine haben viel längere Schwanzfedern. Habe allerdings vergessen zu erwähnen dass ich die Zwerg Yokohamas habe anstatt den Größen wie in dem Video zusehen. Lg und schöne Ostern Marc Rumrich ! ;) :)

Very cool, I may have to make a vid of our chickens here in Hawaii. They are special breeds from a friend in Canada (eggs were sent in post!) alohas and like #29

this video really brought out how much diversity in the breeds of chickens there are in the world. My favourite of the 20 would have to be the Yokohama Chicken, I never knew this chicken existed and what stunning plumage it displays. Thanks for sharing! :)

So many BEAUTIFUL Chicken breeds you share here with us Robert, thanks but isn't the Amrock the barred rock or is the pattern somehow different between these two breeds and the black rock, looks alot like that french breed, Black Copper Maran.

I really hate the way chickens are treated in the US. Laying hens are cooped up in wire cages without room to stretch their wings. Sometimes their beaks are mutilated so, when they get stressed being so closed in, the can't injure the others paced into the crate. I buy eggs from pasture chickens. They taste better, Maybe just because I think it's more humane, but also because they are healthier. I bypass the cage free products and go to ones that are pasture raised. I also buy butter from places that allow their cows to roam pasture land instead of being stuck in stalls. We owe so much to "food" animals. It's time we acknowledge that and treat them better. 🐔🐣

Sarah Willoughby ..... sadness indeed. I gave up dairy products. I'm in London, England. By luck we have inner city farms. I live right by one. I get my eggs there. Delicious. And you can see the chickens run about happily.

In the case of wire cages it was developed to prevent the dominance hierarchy found in many laying hens from happening. The reason why is that dominance hierarchy system involves the chickens beating the crap out of each other, sometimes until death. For this reason the cage system is used. Now I think that the better method would be to use more docile breeds and improve the egg laying properties of those but I understand why the system went in that direction.

how do you keep the water from freezing in winter? these chickens aer so pretty!!!

They found some wild jungle chickens in housing estates here in Singapore, 8 of them. What happened to them? The government culled them all. We don't have live chickens here anymore, not in over 40 years.

I love chickens so much I have 1 Isa Brown 3yo who is beautiful and lets me pat her & 2 Welsummer hens 16 weeks -They are not friendly though :(
