Anime does not equal how Japanese you are lmao. Anime uses a lot of Japanese that is often rude and exaggerated, and using it to determine if someone is Japanese or not is kinda stupid ngl 😂😂. It’s very unrealistic.

I think Southeast Asians are the hardest to guess (I am also a SEA), people from SEA are diverse and have different cultures, even in the same country. A good example is my classmate like 50% are mixed already. We usually asked what is our ethnicity on papers as well.

  • @BakaTaco

Agreed, and that's what makes SEA so interesting to me. Most South East Asian countries have a lot of influence from their neighbours, and over many generations, have become more and more diverse. Sure, you may be Vietnamese or Malaysian, but many people have heritage that stems from other nearby countries. I find that fascinating!

@@NP1066 Malaysia and Singapore are melting pot of cultures. Malaysia has 70% Malay + indigenous, 23% Chinese, 7% Indians + Sikhs. Our old Chinese families who speak Malay or Hokkien as their mother tongue are called peranakans. The much older Indian ones are called chettis, and they've been around since the 1400s. Most Chinese Malaysians and Indian Malaysians are 3rd gen Malaysian at least. We also have Portuguese aka Kristang or Serani, who've been here since the 16th century. We also have pre-WW2 Japanese, no idea what happened to them. Our Arabs and Dutch I think have assimilated into the mix. The last Jew in Malaysia died in 2011. We also have aboriginals too in west Malaysia - I only know of the semang. And that's just west Malaysia. I haven't gotten to the East yet. So ya, one can never really tell that there's a MY/SG in the crowd. For all you know, that Chinese girl might be Malaysian. Chinese race, Malaysian nationality. By the way, the 'mix heritage' trait is not unique to Malaysia or Singapore. Pretty much all of maritime south east asia is diverse.

From China (non Han-looking Chinese, eg. Uyghur, Tajik, Russian, Tartars etc), India (Manipur, those from Northeast), Philippines (Han Chinese looking or Spanish-looking Filipino), Mongolia (those who like Han Chinese or even Russian looking), where as Central Asia nations no need to do so because like Uyghurs, their peoples can have different looks, so it's not that easy to guess.

I think majority of Indians are very unique, we don't typically fall neither into the Caucasian nor the Mongoloid or even Negroid features( although generally, the farthest north, east and southern regions bear some similarities with all of the aforementioned groups). Culturally, we are unique as well, nothing is similar with middle-east, Europe or even Eastern Asia, although the closest is probably SE Asia followed by East Asia. That might compound these small facets. Plus, I would like to see one from Bhutan as well, we know literally nothing about the country as we do with Myanmar, Mongolia, Laos.

@@pomodoro385 I get what you're saying but, like I said, those are outdated racial terms. There are newer terms that replace these archaic terms that are based on genetics an not physical appearance. Iranian Farmers and Steppe pastoralists are West Eurasian, AASI is East Eurasian (deep lineage) and Austroasiatic and Tibeto-Burman farmers are also East Eurasian (of the ESEA sublineage).

Tbh I’m viet Chinese and could distinguish them easily from East Asians due to their certain features. There are some exceptions tho if they are mixed with significant East Asian genome in their blood

@@user-pd9ju5dk5s yes but most are distinguishable from EA & some SEA; countries like Vietnam, China, Korea, and Japan. It’s still quite rare for them to look very East Asian, more like some SEA like Filipinos, Indonesians, Malaysians, etc.

@@BaoTran-jo1zk More like 30% of them look more East Asian and 70% look more Southeast Asian. Also Vietnam is mixed, not entirely EA. I've seen many dark skinned obvious SEA looking Viets as well as pale EA looking Viets.
