@@sirspeedsalot Yeah I agree. Like James said, biggest factor to the cars failing was boosting the cars. Imo, the biggest key factor when it comes to boosting an engine is you gotta make sure the internals could handle it especially if you're planning to push it.

@@AshS85 they had no supporting mods that's why . Non built de motors can handle about 400hp and about 380 torque my G35 has the same engine and I've been supercharged for 2 and a half years now . And I beat on the car daily .

That was an awesome series, i tune car for like 15 years right now and you put in evidence the struggle to always build/break/repair with the deception/frustration/hope/happiness every cars enthusiast should have.

Started watching Donut recently after I got my new Camaro and wanted to learn more about cars and I’m honestly impressed with the production value of this series. Can’t wait to see where they go with the Tacomas and afterwards

@@curlierplanet6421 Yes and No, I honestly don't think that z can be a generally better car compare to a brand new GR supra or bmw m2 which you can get in pretty similar price. However, the process of building that car, the expreience, and good memories probably can not be evaluated by money.

It is definitely possible to build daily drivers that you can take to the track. We have hundreds of members of our CCA (Car Clubs of America) BMW Club that take their daily drivers to the track several times a year. I've been doing this for a while now with mine. I think High Car needs a large 7" intercooler. And Low Car needs... Yeah, MORE High Car parts! Next time use 335i's and you won't have nearly as many problems. They are so much better to build.

Next season, Hi-Low rally cars for beginners. That'd be sick.

I love this show and all these videos, and honestly it made me that much more grateful that my 2014 v6 mustang is already 305 hp. Never let anyone make you feel bad for your car, so what if I don’t have a v8? Other dudes are dropping 20k on getting close to my stock HP. I’m grateful. Coupled with time constraints. A turbo'd car can be reliable, but you will need to lower the compression ratio if you want to run any serious boost. Hi car was clearly pretty neglected as it was quite down.on power before the turbos were added, but they gained a lot after turboing it. So probably to much boost on stock compression. On low car they probably had problems with the oil return line. As it was quite low down probably the oil returning from the turbo backed up thus creating oil issues. Most of the cheap mods could probably be made to work better with some small changes, like a second fan and a simple aluminum shroud to force all the air through the radiator, instead of the extra air just escaping/wasted.

Tis what happens when you rush a build, if they had spent much longer on the builds, specifically when they did all the engine work, they would've probably ended up utterly bullet proof

The next Hi/Low should be AWD Rally hatchbacks, quattros, imprezas, golfs, etc. You could even road trip them up to Washington to Dirtfish to get some training and track time.

Man I've been there with my Honda civic a few times haha. Those emotions they were feeling were real as hell! The highs and lows, of things going right or wrong can be defeating but when it's good it's great.

Can confirm. Turbocharging a car is great, breaking said turbo car because it's turbo'd definitely puts a halt to the fun. If you enjoy building, then it's all fun.

Really good series! But I’m guessing the breaking point for both cars were the bolt-on turbos. But I’m guessing forged conrods and forged pistons with proper compression rates for turbo charging would help bring in more horses. However, I guess there isn’t a low option for such mods.

If you guys are going to continue the off-road series after the Tacoma’s, it would be awesome to see a secondary Hi-Low off-road series about who could build a better ‘90s Jeep. The box Cherokee XJ and the first-gen Grand Cherokee ZJ are cheap enough to start with. The XJ has the 4.0l l6, and the ZJ has the 4.0l as well as the 5.2l V8 (and more rare 5.9l V8 for 1998.) Cherokees have better aftermarket support, but if you’re good at welding, the ZJ can be one hell of an on-road/Offroad monster too. Either way, keep up the great work guys, keep doing what you guys do so well, and MO POWAA BABY!

So... one thing I remember about the VQ35DE motor in the Z's is that the coolant path had its fair share of issues. Some have fixed them by switching to VQ35HR head gaskets which requires you to grind the ports in the block to open them up a little and others fixed it by adding the Pathfinder secondary thermostat. You can find the Pathfinder info by searching Pathfinder cooling mod. Either of those should fix the cooling issues on the track. Most people who only drive their Z's on the street or drag race never get the car hot enough to see the issue, but road course racers find out about it pretty quickly.

You guys should do 2 Nissan Altimas. Reasons: 1. Cheap 2. They come in fwd and awd 3. Slightly older generations come with a V6 4. Very easy to work on Side note: I am pretty biased when it comes to this suggestion because I have a 2019 Altima. 😅

Please do an engine teardown episode - would love to see diagnosis! my guess is there was too much compression.

Agree, it would be really cool to have a tear down episode. My best guess : They were overheating coolant even with a good upgraded radiator. AFAIK they didn't upgrade oil cooling or add any oil temp gauges or sensors, and they didn't mention if they chose a different oil for track. Oil temps probably was through the roof especially with these turbos.

I feel like the 86 platform would have been a much better choice for this first season. From what I've seen/heard, the 350 is not an easy car to work on. With the massive 86 community and after market options, you can build out two completely different cars good for daily or track driving. Turbo vs supercharged, huge selection of body kits, exhaust setups etc. This is such a fun series to watch, and may Hi and Low car R.I.P

I think that if Donut went with High / Low using kit cars from factory five, this would be an awesome addition to the channel. Both vehicles start with a base, then put high low parts. The biggest and only limitation to kit cars is the person building it.

@@kratos948 oh that reminds me, same track day I was on there was a guy with one of those. It did pretty good. Some would say that my car at the time wasn't worth taking to the track. It was a bolt on 2004 V6 Mustang that I had put really good rubber on and nice track brake pads. The car was able to keep plenty of cars in the rearview mirror.
