2 weeks to completely restore a Montesa Cota 247. For under £100 Can it be done?

Abandoned in a damp shed for many years, this bike needed a total rebuild. Can I do it in under 2 weeks for less than £100?

Crankcase splitting tool, will easily take the cases apart. Its a good idea to have a tool, to draw the crank through the main bearings. Not difficult to make one, and very helpful to have one.

Brilliant job wasn’t looking forward to splitting the cases on my 349 . Your video has given me better idea of what to expect. 😊

Nice build... its missing a few strokes but decent job i spose!.... Pretty sure I have a picture with that crank the other way round at some point? Maybe I was seeing things...

Thanks. Though I would argue 2 is a perfect adequate amount of strokes! Well, you don't know if the flywheel will fit on the other side until you try do you!

Could you please tell me how the rear shocks are secured. I have one that has not run in 30 years and intend to sort it out. The shocks are not secured with bolts, some sort of clip, one of which is missing. Your help would be much appreciated, you did a nice job on that one.

Hi Peter. Apologies for my slow reply. They are held on by E clips, or you could use external circlips. Doesn't seem like a lot to hold them on, but they appear to work!

Many thanks for your helpful reply. I will take a closer look at them. I think it will be best to split the cases and renew all the seals so your video will be very useful to me. Regards, Peter.@@whatsintheworkshop4478

I've not had a 123 apart, but I'd think it's pretty similar to the 247 gearbox.

Great vid. Thanks for the run through of the gearbox and engine set up as there's only so much info can be taken from the ancient parts diagrams. Do you have a good source for your parts as the only people I can find are In Motion trials who are very good but don't have everything an aging Monty needs.

Thanks! No problem, I thought they were the bits I would probably want to see if I were building one. Those shims and gears have a habit of going everywhere when you split the cases! I use In Motion as well. They do seem to stock most of the stuff needed. They don't list it all on ther site, so worth calling if you can't see it.
