$2 Walmart Frog - Does It Catch Fish?
Спорт
Fishing the $2 Ozark Trail 2.5" topwater frog from Walmart. This frog is a bargain compared to other brands but will it catch fish? How's the action? Does it even float? Lets tie it on, hop in the kayak, and find out!

The secret to all these youtube bass fishers who catch like 800 bass in a day is that they fish stocked lakes and ponds that only have private access. I don't even see the fun in that. I'd rather spend all day to catch one quality walleye or trout in a public lake or river.
Impressed with that little $2 frog. I love the comparison of the cheaper lures. Thank you again for sharing.

The cost of a lure has little to nothing to do with its ability to attract a strike. When I was probably 8 years my brother and I went through a lot of lures. Combine that with the ability for young fishermen to lose lures at an incredible rate. My father refused to buy more lures and insisted my brother and I earn money cleaning neighborhood cars, mowing lawns etc. But we learned from magazines and TV about ways to make our lures. So we resorted to making lures from tea spoons and other items we found at the local dump. You’d be surprised how many fish we caught from junk not to mention the pride of doing it on your own. Even NDyakangler went out with a painted cork, sent in by a fan and caught plenty of smallies with it. 90% of all fish caught are the results of desperately hungry fish, not a lures price tag.

Time and repetition. Like a golfer that knows the difference between swinging a 1 iron or 3 iron at 180 yards (I have no idea if those clubs/distances are really a thing, so chill!) Not just the accuracy but the distance too! I am constantly amazed by how far his casts carry the lure. But what really blows me away is his dexterity in getting those lures out of the fish. I just tied that knot...absolutely impressive mechanical advantage is deployed using it. The way it bites down onto the hook without also applying pressure to the knot itself is so utterly genius. Tie it on something like a wide rubber band and watch it work.

It's a great knot! Most of the time when I end up breaking a lure off it looks like the line broke above the knot.
I love the calm demeanor. You’re like the Bob Ross of fishing☺️
Got a tip for ya. I use the same knot. Wet your line before you snich down your knot. I put the knot in my mouth and use my saliva to wet my line. Then I snich it. A dry line builds up friction and weakens your knot.
Great video once again. That’s awesome that $2 frog held up that well . Definitely my favorite KZread channel and my favorite kind of fishing. Thanks for taking us along
Back in the day Gander Mountain used to have a big bargain bin at the front of the store. I scored lots of great lures for relatively cheap, still have some of them, years later.

Proof you don't need to spend a lot of money for fishing gear. But what you do need to do is go where the fish are.... You need to know how and where to look for them.
Actually got a couple of them last time i was in the US, works very well on perch, pike and brown trout here in Norway
Well done sir, I envy your environs! Here in sunny Central California it gets pretty dang hot but we pull out a toad on the ol Walmart frog every now and then as well. Tight lines, and keep the videos coming!
Enjoy your channel. You are the Bob Ross of fishing.........you're positive, good head on your shoulders, or so it seems, and an amazingly soothing voice over to listen to. Keep up the good work.
I’ve had good luck with these as well, just open the hook gap up a tad, like you mention, like almost all the frogs available and it’ll increase your catch percentage.
That's the exact same knot as I have been using all my life to tie swivels on the line and lures just like you my friend. My father taught me this knot when I was a kid. Amazing how half way across the world you are using the same knot. Thanks for the vids Jeremy Downunder

That is a kick ass frog for $2! You can't beat it especially with how expensive fishing is these days. You know I always love your videos!!

Just bought a fishing kayak about a week ago after watching your videos for some time. Went out for the first time yesterday on a small lake, and looks like we both had a good day yesterday catching some largies :) Sadly wasn't getting any topwater action aside from a few nibbles, but they were really interested in the jig with a lil craw trailer on it. Absolutely beautiful sunset. Great video!
Awesome video, keep it up!!
Of course it will! I use a single blade spinner bait from Walmart. Cost me $1.50 and has caught countless bass for me!
I think it's a combination of his voice and overall demeanor but I love these videos, lakes are super nice and bassy too. As far as the baits good, it's all a money grab, the fish dont know how expensive the rod and reel we have or how much the lure was, its usually technique that catches em. Keep up the good work 💪
Yeah you sure made that frog work fer that $1.94!!!lol! Luv the phrase Catch ya later upon release as it's so fitting!lol!
I bought one of these yesterday at Walmart....inflation hits, I had to pay $3...LOL. It's eyes fell off as I took it out of the package, but I glued them back on with UV activated glue. Looking forward to trying it out soon. The hook is definitely sharp! The brand name frogs were up to $9 each, so it's a pretty good deal for the money and at that price, if you snag and lose it.....oh well.
I found similar frogs at a dollar store here in ontario, and they have had a much better hookup ratio for me compared to some of the namebrand ones.
the lures eyes fell off that had laughing🤣

@NDYakAngler the next thing you've got to show me, is that whopper plopper 75, I picked one up a month ago, and I've only tossed it in a handful of times with luck once. I don't know if it's a straight retrieve bait or if I have to do slight twitches or pauses. Thank you again for the topwater video I and many have asked for. Hope you and your daughter have a great rest of your day, fishing videos and all.
It’s great how you review some of the cheaper brands of tackle, because a lot of those lures, rods, reels etc., are so grossly overpriced and we’re just paying for the name - like Shimano and Rapala etc., when there are so many out there that are just as good and half the price. 👍

This one was a winner in my book! I've had a couple people comment they leak water but mine seemed to keep it out as good or better than the live target frog. Who knows, maybe it was their first time frog fishing and they didn't realize you have to occasionally squeeze them out lol. For 1.94 I'd assume quality control might not be the greatest though so maybe I just got lucky and got a good one but I was really impressed with it! I grabbed a couple of the yellow ones too so maybe I'll have to give one of them a try if the bass are still hitting frogs and see if the performance is consistent.

@@ndyakangler I suggest, that you test your knots for strenght. The one you tied here, but with only 4 turns, I have experienced 100% line strength with with a certain line. That is NOT good, because you risk the line breaking far from the lure, if you get a bottom hook, or if you hook a huge fish, and it might swim around with a long piece of line hanging, that even could snag something, and it would die from it - if things went really unlucky. I used to do all kinds of tests, to not leave anything to luck or guessing, and that made the rest of my fishing more relaxed. Best way to test knots, if identical hooks in both ends, and pull till one of them breaks. Also test different hooks - wire diameter also means something. To measure breaking strength, I used a bucket and filled with water, till the break, and then weighed the bucket. I don't have the energy to do videos, so feel free to use my input, if you like.
Like your videos keep on the good work 👍
Yes, I Catch fish with them!! I Love these frogs in ALL the Colors!!
After watching you catch fish with a lego Chewbacca, I knew this would be easy for ya. You have convinced me that catching fish is more about lure presentation and casting accuracy then it is about the lure itself.

But two years ago I lost the Love of my life my wife of 32 years to cancer. And the depression monster hit me very hard and I'm just trying to make a slow come back and I'm thinking of hitting the waters again. And Sir your peaceful voice the beauty of the locations where you are fishing at has encouraged me to go out fishing once again, I know it will be difficult because many of my fishing trips my wife would go with me and fish alongside me. But now I'm going to do it to try and get my life back, and I just wanted to tell you Sir that your videos and your peaceful voice are doing much more then just teaching how to fish or how your fishing trips are for you. From one fishing angler to another thank you so much.
