....been sitting for a while...no kidding LOL. Great video, lots of interesting stuff going on. Brought back many memories when I saw the Mini at 16.00. I worked for a main dealer when I was a much younger man and spannered on many many of those, many of them much older too. In their day they were a very innovative little car. Anyone out there remember struggling to replace the bypass hose ? Greetings from the UK.

They were always an incredible little car, pocket rockets even in 998 form and many a mile spent bombing around the streets of London or thrashing up the motorways in one and the engines were a doddle to work on, half hour head gaskets and you could make one out of a bit of sheet copper and be on your way and none of the thousands of pounds a HG costs these days. I was also fond of the Metro, esp the MG ones and I had for ages a standard MG Metro in the red which was immaculate inside and out and got nicked and smashed up, was so broken about that :( I drive as my daily driver a three wheeled Robin which is just like an old Mini with the same dials, controls and a fair bit off the Mini hehe

I had silver MG long after I moved on from the Minis, Snazzy red seatbelts and wee pepperpot wheels, bought it as a category C and had great fun fixing her up. Put in in a car wash windows down, then when dry run a few rattle cans over it and it will look like it never left the showroom. Jokes aside, engines are very likely in working condition after a cleanup. Also, the blue Ghia left like this is a crime.

Great video, really enjoyed the recover of these two. A safety note (because the treatment sucks major league) is to use eye protection when a reciprocating blade is used on steel. I had safety glasses on cutting ports in 35 gal drums and a chip flew in my eye--did not even feel it...then. 12 hours later the salt water rusted it to my cornea at it hurt like hell. Eye doc had to grind it with a dremel to get it off. That sucked, a lot. I use a full face cover when I sabre or recip metal now.

Had a piece of shrapnel from a nailgun go in my eye. Horribly painful. I had at least 4 or 5 doctors look at it and they just said no. I had to go to a specialist eye hospital. Not fun. Safety goggles are the first thing I put on when doing anything remotely dangerous now.

They had 2 modified VW buses there with open bodies, that had been professionally built with 2 rows of bench seats and roll bars. We used to tear around the expanse of the ranch in them. They were light and strong, and the suspensions were almost indestructible. We tried to break them but they were tough.

Think I`d look for bad air leak ion the inlet side first, then plug leads on wrong as It was back firing, then compression test, but really, that webber carb is way over the top for that engine... source a later model austin / morris / leyland/ BMC SU carb and Inlet manifold, as they really do work well, as I once raced "850" cc minis that only allowed just the one SU

I learnt to drive in one. Pale blue with straps that opened the door, a starter button on the floor and sliding windows. Loved it....that one on the video looks to be early to mid 60s judging by the numb r plate....right hand drive as well.

If you keep that front bumper from the cut up van , sand it , and paint it , You could build a killer VW inspired half round bar top ! No joke , that would look cool and sell for a few hundred extra bucks . Even cut and keep the headlight face panel and paint it for the front cover of the bar . Wire the " headlights and turn signal lights " ( to something that just plugs into 110 volt ) Price just went over a thousand bucks back .
