2-Minute Neuroscience: CBD

Ғылым және технология

CBD is one of a class of compounds known as cannabinoids, which are found in the cannabis plant. Unlike THC (the main psychoactive component of cannabis), CBD is not thought to have intoxicating effects. It is, however, believed to interact with the nervous system. In this video, I discuss what we know about CBD’s mechanism of action and its potential in treating various conditions like epilepsy and anxiety.
TRANSCRIPT:
CBD is one of a class of compounds known as cannabinoids, which are found in the cannabis plant. Unlike THC (the main psychoactive component of cannabis) CBD is not thought to have intoxicating effects. It is, however, believed to interact with the nervous system, which may enable it to modulate the effects of thc as well as have actions of its own.
CBD is chemically similar to THC, but it does not have the same mechanism of action, and some evidence suggests it may even interfere with some of the actions of THC. One way it may do this is by binding to receptors that THC binds to known as CB1 receptors, but instead of activating them, causing a change in the receptor that reduces THC’s ability to interact with it. This type of effect is known as negative allosteric modulation, and it may enable CBD to mitigate some of the adverse effects of THC, like anxiety. Other research, however, suggests CBD can enhance certain effects of THC, and CBD is also thought to act at a number of other targets besides the CB1 receptor. For example, CBD is believed to activate serotonin receptors and may increase levels of a natural cannabinoid called anandamide by blocking anandamide reuptake and inhibiting the enzymatic breakdown of anandamide. Overall, although a number of targets for CBD have been identified, its mechanism of action is still poorly understood.
CBD is generally well-tolerated, but some have raised concerns about the need for more research before we can be confident about its safety in all populations. CBD, however, is not thought to have potential for abuse, and some believe it does have potential for treating a number of conditions, like anxiety, insomnia, and pain. But most of these claims don’t yet have strong evidence to support them, and more research is needed, although CBD has been found to be a viable treatment for at least some types of epilepsy.

I had a panic attack a few years back on THC, took a break from it but missed weed. I switched over to CBD dominant strains and have been able to enjoy the calming effects even when Introducing low THC to the mix.

CBD doesn't do shit. You were more calm because THC is biphasic, meaning that at lower doses, it relieves anxiety and induces calm, it is anxiolytic. At higher doses, it can cause anxiety due to activating the amygdala. You consumed lower doses of THC and the CBD did fuck all like always.

I am not a psychiatrist, nor should the following comment be taken as medical advice. I am a former paramedic and quit the field due to diagnoses: Bipolar, Autism and PTSD. I have been given many types of psych meds, psychotherapy and shock therapy. In an attempt cigarettes, I bought a vape pen for nicotine. I was asked by the stores employee if I wanted cbd oil. I have only had it a week, bit nothing has ever been better.

I used to do Hemp CBD edibles. So the edibles had less then 0.3% THC. Compared to like a 1:1 ratio. I can definitely feel a noticeable difference. Like I felt more of it in my body rather then in my head. Never felt any anxiety and if I did, it would immediately go away. I would highly recommend Hemp CBD edibles to anymore who doesn’t want to feel super stoned but still want the THC effects

People talk about weed having a side effect of anxiety, but I personally just think weed gets you sucked into what you’re immersed in, which means when an anxious thought comes along you latch onto it hardcore. I treat weed like a psychedelic. Set and setting are crucial, don’t just go get stoned at the funeral you’re attending

There is some evidence from animal experiments, but I don't believe there's any good evidence from human studies so I would say we don't know until some good human studies are done. There are a lot of positive findings in animals that don't end up being able to be replicated in humans.

My friend has a rare genetic condition (some variant of vasculitis) and she has experienced many strokes as a teenager/young adult. 3 major strokes and many asymptomatic strokes that were found retroactively thru CT/MRI examination. She told me at a party that she hasn't had a stroke since smoking weed, and it's been almost a decade. CBD seems to have anti-inflammatory effects and are seeming to help her stabilize her quality of life.

If I understand this video properly, it prevents reuptake and makes your body not break it down as quick. Thus, it increases the amount of anandamide in the body. So what does cbd do to the production of anandamide? It increases the concentration of it in the brain.

As somebody who feels neuropathic pain, and pressure from the neck up, including my eyes, and sinuses, especially when THC has been stopped for 3 weeks or longer, I can attest to CBDs ability to significantly reduce my symptom set. Whether it is due to increasing available anadamide, or through some other mechanism, it is very apparent. To clarify... when I'm taking CBD, whether I'm smoking or vaping hemp, my symptoms of THC withdrawal in relation to the afomentioned issues, are simply not experienced. Cesation of CBD returns those issues inside a day, and only upon readmission of CBD do those symptoms quieten down once again. Thank you for reading this far. For anyone quitting THC, or simply running out, CBD appears to help a fair amount. Note: I am NOT positive on the THC content. I can only go on the labels promise of

I always had more interest in CBG and CBN than CBD, though ideally a combination of a 1:2:2:1 ratio of CBG, CBN, CBD, THC would be ideal as a perhaps replacement hypnotic for insomnia though more research will need to be done and I think the Delta 8 THC would be far more suited for this type of combination, I don't really know if CBC or THC-V would be needed but they certainly could be added, though THC-V I would only want added in small amounts like 0.2-0.5 in ratio.

Francesa, not everyone has had a bad reaction. Extreme paranoia would only come from very high doses of THC. And yes, CBD is meant to have a calming effect.

  • @neurochallenged

    @neurochallenged

    4 жыл бұрын

A lot of people take it for calming effects, and there is some very preliminary evidence that it might be effective as an anti-anxiety agent. But one thing that's important to note is (in the US at least) it is considered a dietary supplement, and because of that status CBD products don't have to meet FDA quality or purity standards. Thus, it's always a bit of an unknown what is actually in a CBD product. Some analyses have even found certain CBD products to contain THC or synthetic cannabinoids. So that is one reason why someone taking CBD could experience anxiety, as other cannabinoids like THC can sometimes cause it.
