Wow! This is brilliant! It even keeps its color! By the way; did you grow your basil from seed or from seedling plants? I bought two Sweet Basil plants from Bonnie and they have stayed small with small leaves. I wish mine would create a huge bush like yours. It may be a different climate but I'd love to know how you get yours to grow so large!

That particular plant was from a seedlings I actually got from the grocery store. Not sure what variety it was. I also have plants I grew from seeds that got just as large. We have had a lot of rain this years and the Basil is larger than it normally is. We did use an organic fertilizer when we put the seedlings and seeds in the ground and we mulch with grass clippings all summer.

We do this on the default setting on the microwave which in most cases would be high. This is why the 30 second intervals is important because every microwave is different and the moisture content of the Basil can vary in each batch. The Basil retains it flavor nicely. Thanks for watching.

Fresh would always be the highest in nutrients but microwaving to dry the Basil should yield the same results a dehydrating as far as the nutrients go. Both methods heat the water molecules and cause them to evaporate. Thanks for watching.

I haven't had a microwave for 10 years so I don't know if you can set temperatures but from my understanding if you dehydrate at low temperatures more if the nutrients are preserved. Do you know what temperature your microwave gets to?

If you use a dehydrator you can set it for around 120 F. If you use an oven that will probably not go to less than 170-200 F. It will take several hours but will work just fine.

otometer), and carbohydrates (using handheld refractometer). Microwave-drying and oven drying were the methods that produced the best results for preserving most nutrients compared to the fresh herb, whereas ambient-air-drying, hot-air-drying, and sun-dryingbrought about substantial losses in basil leave nutritional values. Microwave-drying was the optimum method for basil leave drying as it required shorter treatment time of 4 min and gave the best retention of protein and carbohydrates when compared to oven-drying which required 17 min, preserving 42% (wt) of iron.
