    On my GE, blew the 20A fuse this morning again trying to close the door gently. Happened 6 months ago and diagnosed the 3 door switches were working through continuity testing-but apparently not working well enough. Bought the 3 switches on Amazon and kinda fixed the problem. If the switches don’t activate at exactly the same time, the 20A fuse blows. You’d figure GE would design it with slight human error included. (Don’t cross the 3 switch replacement off the list even if they appear to work well). The solution now is to noisily close the door on Sat morning and wake up family.

    I have an LG. The clock turns on the timer even counts down. But no fan or heat. What could be the cause of that? Also, previously the fan would turn on when opening the door even without having the cook timer running. That somehow fixed itself. But all of a sudden this happens several weeks later.

    Nice fix... I have to wonder how many items end up in the dump because of a small problem.. I have two street vacuums - one had a dog chew keeping it from vacuuming and the other had a large fur ball...

    i read your blog online. I have a combination microwave that is powering up fine but does not heat. i have replaced the diode but l also want to replace the fuse, but am unable to locate it as it is not in an obvious place. could l possibly send you a picture of the inside of my machine together with the wiring diagram for you to help me locate it? i have contacted the manufacturer and they were no help! it is a combination oven, grill and microwave made by Belling. thank you pauline

    Great troubleshooting and video. Thank you. Any ballpark idea how long it might take for a capacitor to discharge on its own, once power is removed?

  • @tongo117

    No idea but I'm sure there's info online to answer that.. I've always discharged them by touching a screwdriver with an insulated handle across both terminals..

    @@tongo117 - For whatever reason, it took 20 minutes after my last comment before I realized I should have searched for the answer myself. (brain fart, I guess) Several KZread videos recommended your method. I was just a bit hesitant to touch a screwdriver to a loaded cap. But, it seems some capacitors can store energy for days, weeks, or even months. So, I'll follow your advice. Thanks again for the video and your reply. I wish you well.

    So I'm here to watch you test and replace the fuse but I opened up a microwave a few weeks ago for the first time and the people who helped me with it didn't give me a warning that I could be shocked?? I mean they're volunteers, so we're all just figuring it out but I'll spread the word for sure.

    Good video. However, after having already done what PBM recommends and putting everything back together, I ended up with one extra screw...and the housing no longer fits snugly over the microwave. The sides and back fit perfectly. But there is a "hill" now at the front edge of the housing, over the door. Every other edge fits fine. I can live with this, Maybe cover with some duct or electrical tape. But will it be leaking radiation?

  • @tongo117

    @tongo117

    Жыл бұрын

    I would disassemble/reassemble to try and fix the extra screw/housing issue.. And I believe radiation leaking is related to the door not closing properly.. allareaappliancellc.com/do-microwaves-leak-radiation/#:~:text=Microwave%20Leaks-,A%20faulty%20door%20seal%20on%20a%20microwave%20can%20cause%20some,you%20want%20to%20take%20lightly.

    I found Universal microwave fuse 250 volt, 20 amp 10 pack for 8 bucks. Seems people are upping the amp by 5 amps. Since the light doesn't come on I assume that's what went wrong with it. My 1983 Kenmore, I don't like new appliances they don't last this one's done fine all the way up till now it it completely nothing worked and I smelled something electronic so I hope you can smell these fuses when they go bad. Fingers crossed to pick for eight bucks with nine more attempts taped inside.
