The second-seeded and third-ranked University of Iowa women’s basketball team defeated No. 7 seed Penn State, 95-62, inside a sold-out Target Center on Friday night to advance to the Big Ten Tournament Semifinals for the fourth consecutive season.
Five Hawkeyes finished in double digits, with All-American Caitlin Clark having the game-high 24 points, 10 rebounds, and seven assists. Eight of Clark’s 10 first-half points came at the charity stripe. Sydney Affolter finished with a career-high 18 points, going 3-of-4 from beyond the 3-point line. Gabbie Marshall contributed 15 points, going 4-of-7 from the long distance. Kate Martin finished with a near-double-double with 11 points and nine rebounds. Taylor McCabe netted all 12 of her points in the second half via the 3-ball, going 4-of-8 from 3-point territory.
After missing her first 11 3-point attempts of the game, Clark finally got one to drop, her 163rd of her decorated career to surpass Stephen Curry for the most 3-point field goals made in a single season (Division I - men or woman).
Martin made a three in the first 10 seconds of the game to spark a 10-0 spurt for the Hawkeyes. Affolter, Martin, Marshall, and Feuerbach all made threes in the first, and Affolter led the quarter with eight points.
The Lady Lions left the Hawkeyes scoreless in the first five minutes of the second quarter. Clark ended the drought with a step-back jumper. The Hawkeyes kept the momentum going with a 13-2 run to close out the last 3:52 of the half.
It was a back-and-forth battle in the third with Penn State outscoring Iowa 22-19. Taylor McCabe made back-to-back triples in the midst of the third quarter to extend the Hawkeye lead to 19.
Clark scored 11 points in the fourth period. The Hawkeyes take advantage of their trips to the free-throw line, making 26-of-30 (.867) to seal the deal and give Iowa its second win over Penn State this season.
The Hawkeyes (15-of-44) made eight more triples than the Lady Lions (7-of-33). The 44 attempts from behind the 3-point line is a new school record besting 40 attempts against Maryland in the same building last season at the Big Ten Tournament.

My vote for 1st half MVP Is Gabby Marshal … the first minutes shooting & harassing the ball.

She is so good! Such a good all round player!
Some would say CC had off night but I disagree she still had 24 pts . She was struggling some on her aim but it happens with sharp shooters and her teammates stepped up nicely
2nd half was a team effort for Iowa! Penn State holds Clark to under 30 & didn’t Hannah Stuelke run wild. Unfortunately the Hawkeyes dropped 45 points from 3s!
I wish they would quit trying to compare men's and women's records and stats. They are two different sports.
Caitlin could have sat this one out actually.

You do realize the feat of hitting a shot from 40 feet on the regular is right? It's crazy that the human brain and body can do that. How can you not recognize someone who has perfected something. No reason to be salty about anything.

Five for 19, including two for 14 from three-point land is killing the team. I’m a fan to a point I wish she wouldn’t flop and focus more on being a good role model, but she really hurt them by not stopping her shooting when she obviously wasn’t helping.

Killing the team? 🤣 She still had 24. She could have sat out and they still would have won the game. Best cure for the best shooter in the country having an off night is to keep shooting and drive to the basket which she did. BTW, shes led the country in assists two of the last three years. She had more than twice the assists in this game than anyone on Penn State.
I watched this video to see what this Caitlin Clark hype is all about. I've never seen her play. She seems average to me.

If you wanna see Caitlin Clark hype , watch the game she broke the woman’s all time scoring record. In my opinion that was the best ball game from her I’ve ever seen.
The foul call for Iowa is ridiculous. They was call way more fouls in the first for them. Every time they were touched
DEI & CEI has destroyed Penn States athletic program! What coach puts a slow overweight less than mediocre player as point guard?! Lia/William Thomas would be proud.

Obviously your new to Women's Basketball as Ashley Owusu was a McDonald's All-American 2019, 2020 Freshman of the Year in the Big10, Big 10 Tournament MVP in both 2020 & 2021as well as the Ann Meyers Drysdale Winner for the top Shooting Guard in the Nation in 2021. She started this season on the injury list and missed the first six games and is playing herself back in the flow of things and still made 2nd Team All Big 10.
I hate it that she feels like she has to go to the WNBA.

If she stays at Iowa she might go to a w team that is far from home. Her family and friends mean more to her than money and Indianapolis will be Carver South. Iowa fans will be there for every game. Also, with Boston there they will be hard to stop. I'm from Iowa but I think she made the right decision.

I’m also from Iowa and I think she made the right choice though we sure will miss her on the Iowa wbb team. This way like you said she gets to stay in the Midwest close to her bf and not too far from her parents. And I just think she feels ready to play with the top women’s basketball players in the world. She and Boston will make a formidable young duo. And maybe she didn’t want any further records she sets or extends to have an asterisk because it would have been done in 5 years instead of 4 like what Sheryl Swoopes said mistakenly -but next year it would be true.
