I totally agree!
It's "Bougainvillea" they are beutiful flowering vines but also thorny. Very nasty thorns. They are most common in southern California. You have to keep cutting them back regularly or else they will get out of hand.

An above ground pool would always be an option and using the natural drop off to the land and with decking it could look lovely, as for the renovations, it depends on what you wanted a new roof on the first property is a must, if I had to go out on a limb I would say that 40-50 thousand Euros would make a massive difference and you would have two nice houses. Of course one can spend 30k on a kitchen or even a bathroom but as basic renovations go.
Marvelous property. Would try to get it if back un Europe.

I don’t see any heating vents or radiators in either home. That tiny fireplace in the first house couldn’t possibly heat the whole structure.
