Үй жануарлары мен аңдар

As an ongoing commitment to conservation, Shamwari Private Game Reserve has introduced a duo of female cheetahs into the reserve. This strategic initiative aims to foster a robust and thriving population of wild cheetahs within the reserve. Join Head Ranger Andrew Kearney on a journey to track the progress of these two female cheetahs as he provides valuable insights into their successful acclimatisation to their new habitat.

This is wonderful news! Thank you so much for this Andrew❣️ Could you maybe also shed some light on the background of these two cheetah, e.g. where they are from, how old they are, how transportation went, the results of their health check (assuming this is probably standard procedure?), on what criteria you came to pick these specific two, and such? I simply love to know so much more about responsible conservation, including difficulties and challenges that obviously accompany conservation efforts. I understand it if an answer to all my questions is too elaborate, so maybe this is an idea to address in future clips? Take care☺️

New subscriber. You mention the lesbock (sp.?) kill they made & fed on, also the giraffe a lion was feeding on: did you not film this cheetah kill or film the lion? Being able to see the cheetah would be amazing. Also, shouldn't the other cheetah be collared too so she can be tracked? Thank you.

Hi, welcome to the channel. A hunt happen so quick that being in the right place and the right is quite a rare event - unfortunately the film crew didn’t get to see the kill, but some of the guests were lucky enough to get to see the Blesbuck kill. The giraffe died of natural causes so the Lions being very opportunistic scavenged on the carcass. Not all animals are collared, and this collar is only temporary to make sure the first few months after their release they can be actively monitored for conservation purposes, the collar will eventually be removed.

@@ShamwariTV Thx so much for your response. I just thought it would be important for the other cheetah to be collared so it could be known how it is faring. I've been a "cat person" my entire life & have followed & read just about everything available on big cats. I'm particularly interested in behavior so i've always closely observed the behavior of my domestic cats, which helps to explain a lot in regards to the big cats. Fascinating animals! Thx so much.

I know this goes against the ethics of conservation --but I'd like to see a vast decrease in the number of hyenas.

@@IndomitableT I know that they are animals as are all of them and they need to fend for their own. But I feel sorry for cheetahs who have to contend with them. Hyenas steal the food from cheetahs. I know lions do also, but not to the extent that hyenas do. Leopards can usually grab their pray and scurry up a tree and eat in peace. Not so the cheetah. All they can do is run away and lose all their hard work to hyenas.

@@timcarr6401 . Well, you seem to know that all living beings need to eat in some way or another. It is not pretty, I mean, look at us humans! How do you feel when a cheetah catches and eats a newborn baby impala or warthog piglet or hyena cub? Those are all cute! What to do with carcasses that carry nasty diseases which merely hyenas, and e.g. vultures for that matter, can handle without getting ill and spreading that disease? That is not even conservation efforts, that is a rather complex food chain, for which they are imperative. Cheetah can handle themselves, do not underestimate them, even if they sometimes lose, sometimes they win as well.😌

@@IndomitableT I agree with most of your post, with the exception of your last sentence. Cheetahs are almost a dying species. They need protection.
