conditions:
Aerobic Conditions:
Pyruvate undergoes oxidative decarboxylation to form acetyl-CoA, which enters the citric acid cycle to generate ATP via oxidative phosphorylation.
Anaerobic Conditions:
Pyruvate is converted to lactate or ethanol to regenerate NAD+ for glycolysis, resulting in lower ATP production.
