You can still kill the stone crab that way. You want to try to make the crab “drop” it’s claw by either sticking its other claw in between the knuckles or use a knife.

Yes that is a mantis shrimp. You wouldn't believe how many times I've been called a liar when I tell people that we have gators in the saltwater here. And there's lots of 'em. Chicken and large fish heads is the key to catching crabs. They're more attracted to blood and oil.

Man, over the years that I lived in Florida (I live in Pittsburgh now) I caught some seriously nice fish. Fishing in Tampa Bay and the Gulf I've caught some nice snapper, various species of shark, crab, huge rays, snook, redfish, big sheepshead, Spanish mackerel, sailfish, Florida marlin, dolphin (Mahi Mahi), 6' tarpon, red grouper, huge cobia, I mean, it was ALWAYS something fun to fight. I even caught BIG tuna, huge barracuda, and I caught a 59.5" 38 lb Mahi Mahi in St Thomas, USVI.

I work in the food delivery industry and depending on where ur at in the country (the more inland the more expensive) the crab alone could be a $30 plate ad the shrimp, sheep's head and redfish plus assuming 2 sides (salad & baked potato) and a drink at a restaurant that's a $70 plate in a lot of parts of the country

Hey Micah, Love your videos. Next time catching sheepshead. Filet them, then cut into smaller pieces and cook them in the crab boil like you did the stone crabs (I prefer the Zatarain's powder crab boil - don't use the boil in the bag stuff and the liquid version can be very strong in small cooks) but add onions and potatoes then melt some butter with lemon and pour over the boiled sheep and potatoes. It's a take on poor man's lobster and the way we have cooked it for as long as I can remember. Also, crack the stone crabs with the back of a butter knife. I live in north Florida on the Gulf and our coast is very similar to that of South Carolina. Take care man, love the videos!
