In this video we are traveling from Sapporo to Hakodate. Along the way we'll explore Moerenuma Park and the Sapporo Beer Museum in Sapporo before stopping for the night at the quaint lakeside town of Toyako Onsen. On day two we'll visit the area affected by the 2000 eruption of Mt. Usu, then walk around Onuma Park before finally finishing in Hakodate to take in one of the top three night views in all Japan.

What I like about this trip report is that, unlike those vlogs, too much raptures, don't know what they are talking, too long mehh while this one is full of information, to the point and quite short. Really like it!!

Thank you!!
I was selected to go live in Hakodate for a year as part of an exchange program. I was initially bummed out that they would send me to a small port town whereas my other friends were sent to tokyo, osaka etc... but i was glad they did. If i had a choice and could do it again, ild live in Hakodate all over again. I might be biased but .. it has the nicest people, best food and most homey feel out of other areas in Japan ( in my opinion..).

We went to Japan on an 8 week trip. I can wholeheartedly agree with you, for our short time in Japan, that Hakodate had some of the friendliest people in the whole country. And some of the beeeeeest seafood!

I had exactly the same experience. Foreign exchange to little old Hakodate. Turns out it's great! Been back there twice now in the 10 years since finishing the exchange. One day I'll take my kids there and they will know what a lovely little town it really is
I've been to Hokkaido twice. 1st trip was mainly in Sapporo, and the last one I went to Wakkanai, Biei, Sapporo and Furano. This October I will be back for 23 days. I initially don't intend to visit Hokkaido because I want to visit other prefectures too, but because of this video, makes me want to review my itinerary and might squeeze in Hokkaido again. The island is really wonderful.
I did the same last August, starting from Hakodate, I spend one full day in Hakodate coming early morning from Aomori. Then I went to Toya very early next morning and spent a full day and then went to Noboribetsu to enjoy their onsen and finally Sapporo and Moerenuma park, shiroi koibito factory, sapporo beer factory, Odori park, Susukino, Otaru, etc. Great video, good memories!!! felt so nostalgic

Thank you for sharing your trip! We're glad that the video reminded you of those good times.
Great video guys - keep them coming! I actually undertook a similar itinerary back in October 2016 when I visited Hokkaido (and which I will be doing again in May 2019). This trip can actually be stretched out to 3 days as there is definitely another worthwhile stop in between Sapporo and Lake Toya - Noboribetsu. To the unfamiliar, Noboribetsu is Hokkaido's most famous onsen town, home to many hot spring resorts with Dai-ichi Takimotokan as arguably the best in the whole of Japan. Close by is Jigokudani (aka Hell Valley) - a valley with walking trails where you can gain first hand insight into the volcanic geothermal activity which provides Noboribetsu it's hot spring water. I would definitely recommend including Noboribetsu as a must see stop - but if you're limited by time and need to stick to a 2 day trip, I would substitute Noboribetsu for Lake Toya. That's not to say Lake Toya is not without it's charms, the Kompirayama Walking Trail (as shown in the video) is a harrowing reminder of the destruction caused by nature's fury with abandoned buildings, homes and even a kindergarten (the last scene with the playground and bus) - an urban explorer's dream come true! Whilst the view from Mt Hakodate is quite nice at night, the highlight of any Hakodate visit is the view of Fort Goryokaku - a star shaped fort which can be viewed from nearby Goryokaku Tower or explored at ground level. Either way, like everything in life, there's always so much to do, but so little time!

The video quality is stunning. Two days do seem a little short though.
You can hike to the top of mount hakodate too. It is a pretty cool trail.
Went to Hakodate for Spring Break, and boy do I want to retire there, man
Amazing!! Thanks for sharing your travels!
A beautiful place indeed. I like to visit by bicycle, you can see a lot more and smell and feel the environment. Was there 10 years ago, should be time to go back.
This trail is awesome, I might copy it since Hokkaido is still missing from my japanese list.
Been on my bucket list for several years. Thank you for this video. it renewed my drive to visit.

Japan looks so beautiful. Thanks for sharing.
Quite detailed. Good content.
My family of six visited japan last month and we stayed for a few days in Sapporo. We were able to explore few places in Hokkaido and really enjoyed them especially its powdery snow. We’re gonna be back next year to see more of Japan, such a beautiful country :-)

great job
thank you !! !
Great film. Anyone knows what is the name of the piano piece at the beginning of the video?
I will come back someday ❤️
Hello I love 🇯🇵Japan. Welcome to Thailand. 🇹🇭 Thanks.
Did you try any Onsen in Lake Toya? If yes, would you recommend it? Was hoping to see some footage here. 😄😄
I realize the word "epic" is grossly misused these days, but the landscapes in this video were, indeed, epic.
how i wish they have shinkansen earlier from hakodate to sapporo and other parts of hokkaido
finally a lengthy vid - good....:-)
I am glad that I saw your video today before my trip. I am touching down @ Chitose Airport, Sapporo around 1pm on Boxing Day 26/12/19...aiming to spend about 5 days touring Hokkaido before heading down to Tokyo from Sapporo on 30/12/19 and spending NY Eve in Tokyo. What are the must see in Hokkaido in WINTER? - Hakodate, Lake Toya, Otaru, Sapporo, Furano? If so, could I base in Sapporo and do day trips or it's better to stay overnight in each place with 2 days in Sapporo?
Missing japan!
What a lovely job you had Mrs Raina. Is it possible for me to working at Japan Guide? As Indonesian speaker maybe 😋
Would love to know the background music in this video!
Still my favorite place in Japan ahead of Kyoto and Shizuoka. I’m going be back as soon as the pandemic is over
Fabulous video! What time of the year is this? Is this route enjoyable during 1st week of Jan?

Thanks for the comment! This was video was shot in early October. During the first week of January winter will be in full swing and most likely each location visited will be covered in snow. Also temperatures will be near or below freezing, so if you visit during this period make sure to have proper cold weather apparel.
Thank you for this video, I am planning a trip to Hokkaido this June and it's super helpful and really informative! What sort of time were you starting the day and did you feel you had long enough at each site? I was wondering if you suggest taking a bit longer than two days for the journey? Also do you think its possible to travel Hokkaido by Japan Rail Pass or would it be better to get the Hokkaido rail pass or a rental car? Thank you very much (:
Hokkaido is the best
Hello, one question: how did you travel from Toyako Onsen to Showa Shonzan? By bus? Walking? Nice video😊, thanks you!
Watching this video makes feel almost like I’m meditating. So good 😊
When was this trip taken?
Rather than using Super Hokuto, i'd like to use local service train for a little bit adventure... Oh, and in August you can see fireworks along with music festival in Moerenuma
What time of year did you go? It looks great! I might be doing this in January

So beautiful. I mean both Japan and you Raina Ong .
Where was the restaurant you ate at in Hakodate? Is it close to Hakodate Station and lodging? I plan to stay here for a night.

How about detailing the travel cost, and the cost of the restaurants you eat in? The cost of things is extremely relevant when planning trips.
Are these places nice in December?
So nice vdo mam
Hi, which do you think is better from Sapporo to Otaru first and then to Hakodate or Sapporo to Hakodate first and then to Otaru? If we plan a vacation to Hokkaido, then Hakodate and finally plan to continue to Osaka / Kyoto.
@japanguide

Most likely it will be better to visit Otaru in a side trip from Sapporo and then continue on to Hakodate.

Is it possible to have half-cooked sushi?
Just a question. How do you sort out the luggage situation?
Hello. I am Henry. Can you tell me how to book local tour for 2 or 3 days tour. Thank you
😍😍😍😍
Watch you everyday
I have a serious complaint! Whenever I visit Japan, I always visit by planning my trips excessively more than any other country I come to. This time was going to be simple and I was going to stay in Sapporo because it would be simple and easy. When I watched this video, I realized my way to have R&R would be too boring! Now I have to change my bookings ~~~~ (ㅠㅠ). Fine! Night 1 of my arrival ... book a hostel near Lake Toya, done. Night 2 of my arrival ... book a hostel in Hakodate Well, now that I need to do everything in between that, it doesn't sound so bad. Now I need to figure out what I'll do for the next 5 days :)

Could you give me recommendation of which hostel to book near Lake Toya? I can't seem to find one on Hostelworld :(
@JuliusCaesar108
4 жыл бұрын
@@richardsihombing2507 I used Booking.com. I used one but I can't necessarily recommend it because the hours for check in are limited as well as for using the laundry room. (The shop owner was nice!) For price I would do it again (maybe) since they are all that's available in Lake Toya. But I can't recommend the place based on limited check-in hours.
・Beautiful Hokkaido trip video.
Hokkaido ! is life 🗼🗾 🧬 🎌
How long does it take to drive from sapporo to hakodate?
@japanguide
7 ай бұрын
About 3.5 hours. See the details here: www.japan-guide.com/e/e5355.html?aFROM=2163_5350
How tall are you?
A female sushi chef was not ever seen before. One chef told me that the reason why women couldn't be a good chef was because their hands were too small. I am really happy to see a female chef. I also noticed you ate the sushi correctly..heheh I never knew about the proper way of eating nigiri until one night a chef taught me how. Then he added...hehehe "Just get it in your mouth and enjoy!"
You really can walk a lot.
