2 Crocodiles Chase 3 Cheetahs off Buck
Үй жануарлары мен аңдар
3 cheetahs that successfully caught a waterbuck are chased off their meal by 12 crocodiles before they can finish their meal.
Send in your wildlife video here, and earn money: www.latestsightings.com/partn...
Bob and Rosa Swart, retired nature enthusiasts, recently had this once-in-a-lifetime experience in Kruger National Park and shared it with LatestSightings.com.
"We were out on our daily drive when we spotted three cheetahs in the dry Shingwedzi river bed outside the camp gate. Despite the intense heat, the cheetahs were alert and focused on something in the riverbed. We waited for over an hour until a group of waterbucks approached, including some youngsters."
Cheetahs are known for their speed and agility, making them successful hunters. They can run up to 75 miles per hour in short bursts, allowing them to catch prey quickly. They rely on their eyesight to spot prey from a distance and use their speed to ambush them.
"Suddenly, one of the cheetahs slunk off into the bush, and the other two sprang into action, chasing the waterbucks. Success at last! One of the cheetahs managed to catch a waterbuck, and the rest of the cheetahs joined in."
"All the commotion created a lot of interest, and the crocodiles that were basking in the sun on the edges of the remaining pools of water began approaching. The cheetahs tried to stand their ground and began hissing at the crocodiles."
"The crocodiles eventually intimated the cheetahs, and they sprinted off away from their meal. A total of 12 crocodiles appeared and went for the waterbuck carcass. However, in the end, only the largest crocodile remained at the carcass, surrounded by vultures and other scavenging birds."
Crocodiles are not often considered scavengers. They are known to actively hunt their own prey rather than scavenge from other animals that have already been caught. Crocodiles will feed on almost anything they can catch, including fish, birds, and mammals.
The Swarts advise fellow nature enthusiasts to drive slowly and be considerate of other visitors in the park. With the right attitude and a little bit of luck, anyone can have a memorable experience in Kruger National Park.

The carcass doesn't run with you, after all. So your choices are to stand and fight over it (not a good idea here) or give way and write it off as a loss. It's kind of comparable how once humans started putting down roots as settled agriculturalists they also needed to start devising ways to fight would-be takers off it. There's a reason leopards bring their meals up to trees when one is available.

More like they aren't bloody stupid. Crocs are such a threat to life and limb much African land life is reflexively terrified of going into water, and apes born and raised in captivity without ever seeing a live one are congenitally afraid of small toy ones. Cheetahs? They live and die by their ability to run fast and duly can afford to risk injury even less than most. Also very poorly equipped to contest kills with anything even close to their size.

Get debunked. “Writers of the first half of the twentieth century theorized that the last saber-toothed cats, Smilodon and Homotherium, became extinct through competition with the faster and more generalized felids that replaced them. It was even proposed that the saber-toothed predators were inferior to modern cats, as the ever-growing canines were thought to inhibit their owners from feeding properly. Yet non Sabertooth felids, such as the American lion (Panthera atrox) and the American cheetah (Miracinonyx trumani) also became extinct during the Late Pleistocene. The fact that saber-teeth appeared many times in unrelated lineages also attests to the success of this feature.” The Sabertooths Smilodon populator, Smilodon fatalis were also ecologically modern and became extinct mostly because of humans and a bit of climate change. The term prehistoric also doesn’t fit animal species that lived from the middle Pleistocene and became extinct in the Late Pleistocene, the Pleistocene-Holocene transition, and the Holocene. Why? Because they literally lived in ecosystems that are still around today and also lived alongside and were contemporaneous with almost ALL LIVING ANIMAL SPECIES IN THE PLEISTOCENE.

Crocodiles most certainly are scavengers. For starters, they commonly scavenge from other crocodiles. A kill by one will attract all the others in the vicinity, all vying to tear chunks off the victim. They will also eat other dead crocs, or anything else they can lay their jaws on. Moreover, crocodiles have an acute sense of smell, and can pick up the scent of blood from a considerable distance. I recall finding a lion kill by following the tracks of a large crocodile that had headed inland from the Luvuvhu River. Despite its size, the three lions had no difficulty seeing the croc off.

Ya, they definitely aren't picky eaters. It's theorised that ability and willingness to scavenge carrion was one factor that tided their ancestors over the massive but transient ecological disruptions of the Cretaceous-Paleogene extinction event, and it certainly isn't a quality that hurts one's survival prospects in general.

That's not how ectothermy works; environmental temperature dictates the _level of activity_ they're capable of - eg. a commonly witnessed case in point, frogs and snakes getting more and more sluggish and eventually incapable of moving at all as winter approaches and temperatures drop. Which is why they need to seek cover to hibernate in. In African daytime heat they of course have no problems whatsoever. _Endotherms_ ("warm-blooded" animals) OTOH have major overheating issues especially with intense exercise that produces extra metabolic heat, which is one reason many carnivores in such climates prefer hunting at night. It's a particularly acute problem for cheetahs given their hunting technique; it can take them up to an hour to fully cool down and recover after a chase.

Much of the food from crocodile stomachs may come from scavenging carrion, and the crocodiles could be viewed as performing a similar function at times as do vultures or hyenas on land.[9] -- Occasionally, if regular food becomes scarce, both lions and the crocodile will steal kills on land from each other and, depending on size, will be dominant over one another. Both species may be attracted to carrion, and may occasionally fight over both kills or carrion.[100] --" - Nile crocodile/Hunting and diet "-- Most species will eat anything suitable that comes within reach and are also opportunistic scavengers.[32] -- They may be unable to deal with a large animal with a thick hide, and may wait until it becomes putrid and comes apart more easily.[111] --" - Crocodilia/Feeding Yeah, better have something convincing to back up your sweeping claim with.

@@Polosatiy_Varan _[citation needed]_ I have absolutely no reason to merely take your word on it at a face value you know. What are you even basing your claim _on_ anyway?
Jesus man, all they had to do is drag the carcass... by the time the croc gets to it, it's alredy a skeleton lol
They learned after there cousin was eating alive by a croc 😂
Crocs: Yo guys, do you know that we are actually the fastest animals and not you guys? Cheetah: Hah! In yo dreams, we're definitely faster than you! Wayyy faster. Crocs: Yeah, and you're gonna prove that right now. RUN
OMG crocs are bad-ass.....
If they could have kept dragging the carcass into the brush the crocs may have went back. A bite from a croc could seriously injure one of them. Too bad they lost it but they seem like good hunters. They will kill again and hopefully eat in peace.
Parece como acontece no Brasil. Os guepardos representam o povo e os crocodilos o governo.
Cheetahs really are the punching bag of the Savannah

Any domestic cat is only food for crocodiles/alligators.
We need full video
So, it didn't occur to any of those 3 cheetahs to keep pulling the deer further away, I guess.
2:20= “That’s right, you better run.”
If you didn't read the description box check this out "3 cheetahs that successfully caught a waterbuck are chased off their meal by 12 crocodiles before they can finish their meal." damn i can't believe 12 of them came from the safety of the water for a meal.
