2 Big redfish caught on Boca Grande beach
In this video I came across something that I have never encountered after years of fishing in this spot. Probably about 45 to 80 yards from the small rock jetty that I was fishing off of for snook, I noticed some massive fish cruising on the surface occasionally coming up and smashing a free swimming pass crab off of the surface in the strong, out-going current. At first I wasn't sure what they were until I got a good look at one of them as it went fully out of the water to eat a pass crab and realized they were big, bull dog redfish. A fellow snook fishermen next to me got a good strike from one of them using a zara spook jr. topwater lure so I decided to quickly swim and run back up to my tackle box, tie on the same lure, head back to the rocks and throw that topwater as far out as I could to reach them. Once I started casting that topwater lure out their, it did not take me long to hook into a big red. after I fight the fish, land him, un-hook and release him, other redfish were still out their eating the pass crabs off the surface in full force so I quickly got back out on the rocks and started casting again, allowing me to catch another big red before they slowy spread out and moved on.

nice red ted!
What Spook were you using bone? 5 inch?
Do you know if the tarpon ever come close enough to the beach to catch them from shore there? Also, is this the south end of the island? I’m heading down there in a few weeks and I’m trying to figure out some of the good spots ahead of time

Yeah spring to early summer they are around and will occasionally dip close in to shore, but most prefer to stay out in the deep

@@Fishing_With_Essex alright, I’ve got a ten foot heavy surf rod so hopefully I’ll be able to reach them. Thanks
