We just bought a 2.7 l turbo Silverado trail Boss custom had about 3 days I can't believe it has so much power for 4 cylinder on my work trucks are Chevy 350s but I'm super impressed with this I do hope it holds up and has some longevity to it but sharp looking truck rides beautiful haven't towed with it yet but glad to see it can tow in his video

The power is definitely there. My concern is longevity.

I was at the dealer yesterday looking at em the guy said that gm is so confident in these engines they put a 100k power train warranty on the 2024 model years and the 5.3 still comes with 60k warranty sounds like gm just built another bulletproof engine they’ve always been good engine builders lots of very reliable engines that if taken care of can run 300k the only thing that’s gonna help longevity of this engine is instead of the recommended 10000 miles oil change I’d change at 5k because turbos need clean oil

Love the redesign and the updated Google enhanced dash. Everything great about the new Silverado in a compact package.

My brother bought a 21 Sierra with 3.0 Duramax and really likes it. Fuel economy is really good too

I paid under $7,000 for an '07 that still runs like new. With what I saved not buying a $50,000 new truck I can keep that nice old Silverado alive forever.

can't wait to test drive a 2023 Chevy Colorado Trail Boss with this same motor in it with 310hp and 430 foot pounds of torque with the High Output tune.

Love my Trail Boss 2.7 HO turbo and everything was good in this video until @01:10 when I noticed no 4LO. Makes me happy to have the Trail Boss edition even more.

Just got one about a month ago now. I love it. I towed 18’ trailer with slide outs dual axle no problem down the highway at 65mph. I had gmc Sierra 1500 before this with the 5.3 vortec and this 4 banger is better.

While driving on what looks like a flat road, you mentioned you were getting 11 MPG at 55 MPH while pulling the Sierra. You didn't mention the gas mileage while pulling the Sierra on the flat road at 67 to 72 MPH. That would have been useful to know, as well.

gereat video. Chevy should make a video like this to give hope. from seeing this video, this truck should be able to pull a mini excavator and skids steer. Im planning on buying on within a few months, and this really helped with my decision.

We need to have towing videos with the electric hummer and Silverado. We are getting a demo HummerEV at some point. I'm hoping we can shoot some video doing the same thing with it.

I own a 5.3. Have a 2.7 rental rn. The 2.7 really don't get better mpg . It feels peppeier out of thr hole but that's it

I own a 22 2.7 Silverado. I've towed 10k, driven it across USA. It's a great truck no issues period. 40k miles. Have beat it day after day. I'd buy another no questions asked. Gets 24mpg in 6th gear towing. Have gotten 27mpg on hot summer days long road trips (1300 miles) mpg gets better when motor is hot on long trips.

Has anyone done a high mileage longevity test on the 4 cylinder! Doing over 100K of very mixed driving/towing and following all of the manufacturer recommended maintenance.

Fords 2.7 Ecoboost is a winner and I'm sure this will be a winner for GM too.If I wasn't a Ford guy I'd choose this engine in any GM truck

Ford competition with GM for gas mileage has been fun to watch. Ford came out with 3.5L ecoboost thinking they had a winner, however a 5.3L with cylinder deactivation is 2.65L. So Ford made their 2.7 ecoboost to better compete with the 5.3l on mpg. GM in turn designs their 2.7T with cylinder deactivation so its only a 1.35L engine in 2 cylinder mode. So not only does the GM 2.7T make better torque, real world it has potential for much better mpg than the Ford 2.7 ecoboost. The 4 cylinder turbo is also less complicated with a single turbo vs twin turbos on the Ford v6.

34 miles on the truck and already pulling with it? My '22 owner's manual said no tow before 500 miles, supposed to be for the rear diff not the engine? Would no way trade my 3.0 for the 2.7 or 5.3

GM sounds like they are getting back to their original “5 years planned obsolescence” plan, sticking a hyper-tuned 4-cylinder in a full size pickup!

Now see that's the difference. General Motors actually plans on these trucks being on the road for many many years. Ford has the exact opposite opinion. They figured will get them out the door and if anybody needs to do some serious work with the truck door not going to buy these anyway and they were right. Occasionally I seen EcoBoost with over 200k on it but generally it's hurt and it's been maintained more than necessary. Seeing a 5-3 for instance with three to four hundred thousand miles on it is just a normal day

I dont know anything about this 4 banger, is it almost like half a v8.? Whats the cylinder bore is it smaller.? They would a PIA to own and maintain especially with real high mileage

With the pickups being manufactured today, who needs a Cadillac.???

GM has been making this engine since 2019, they've had time to iron out most faults. Most people trade in their vehicles after 4-6 years with under 100k miles on the clock... for that, I'd imagine this should be perfectly fine -- 99% of vehicles are up for that task. If you're looking to run it 10+ years and 200k+ miles, Id look elsewhere... something naturally aspirated without cylinder deactivation would be your safest bet.

Buy new from a dealer with a lifetime powertrain warranty if you plan to pile the miles on and keep up with recommended maintenance. GM hasn't broken this motor yet, and upped the torque...it's mostly tuning. The new Colorado is getting the same Power plant, detuned...with the option of tuning it up to 391/430... less parts to go bad in a straight 4, less mating surfaces to seal. Imagine what they could do with an extra cylinder or two..

I have the 2021 Sierra with the same motor(2.7) and I use the premium (93 octane) I drive alot and I see it last longer than reg 87 octane and I feel it has full power with the 93 octane But everyone has different driving habits so things can be different I’ve towed a big bbq grill and have had no issues it feels like I’m not towing anything Aside from that I’ve switched over to the royal purple full synthetic oil bc I work my truck 10-12 hrs a day and I also feel that the truck performs better than when i was using Mobil full synthetic This truck engine is practical for the handyman/plumber/gardener/carwash detailing business/ or any other business model that doesn’t really need the full power of a V8 engine but can still benefit from the vehicle tax deduction and the use that a truck gives for multiple types of jobs that one would do around town Highway is where this engine shines I get about 35mpg with city at 18-19mpg At the end of the day should a person run the engine to the ground and get to the point where they must replace the engine they can always opt to get the 5.3 or 6.2 engine instead of another 4cyl

The 2.7 with originally from the Cadillac division of General Motors. It was absolutely put through its Paces because it was sold as a performance option from one of their sedans. The stuff that was done to that motor throughout its testing was pretty ridiculous quite frankly and they really didn't have any issues. Sadly the work that it's putting it in that truck probably isn't any worse.

From what I've seen, it ALMOST equals the 5.3 in some respects. How is it "miles ahead"?

I been driving a 5.3 and the worst thing about them is 3.23 axle ratio.not meant to tow anything. Absolute crap milage when you evenpull a 1000 lb trailer.

The 3.43 axle is a much better and typical choice

Wait till you need to change something like the timing belt and you have to separate the transmission from the motor because timing belt is the back,5.3 timing belt in front, nice motor but servicing when higher km is way more difficult than 5.3.

Timing chain, not a belt. Likely to never have to change it. Also, it's on the front.

I was too excited to jump in and get going, I wasn't versed in the controls enough to pull up towing Temps until after we finished shooting the video. I believe the temp never got much over 180. If I get an opportunity to do this again, I will pull a hill with it and watch Temps. The good news is that GM rates max towing on a 15 degree incline at a minimum speed of 40mph sustained to determine capacity, this is at 100F outdoor temps.

How is it a less complicated motor? The 5.3 is something you never have to worry about. The turbos are alot of system to worry about. Just like my dad ford. It's nice and easy to tow with a turbo engine but there are more parts to have to fix. Cooler lines mainly. And if he had the 5.0 he would get the same mileage and prolly tow just the same.

​@@freedomisntfree_44 the lifters failed because people would use conventional oil rather than synthetic like the GM engineers specifically stated in the manual. The oil valleys leading to the lifters 100% will clog if synthetic is not used or the oil is not changed within maintenance cycles, the lifters are actually fairly good as long as they are oiled properly. AFM also played a part in the valleys getting clogged, It was a terrible design in the end but the AFM can be turned off in 3 minutes with a tuner and it becomes a very solid engine. My AFM 5.3 is running like a clock at 221k miles.

@@freedomisntfree_44 Yes, it's the only way GM can keep the same design while meeting gov mandates, AFM can be deleted electronically and all problems resolved. The LS was literally designed by racecar engine builders so ease of access to fix this shit is stupid simple. The LS platform is super simple and cheap to fix. I can have the engine out of the truck and stripped down in less than 8 hours.

Let’s get this straight-you’re towing a load that’s heavier than the tow vehicle and you’re worried about braking? That’s what you should NOT be worried about if the trailer has a proper braking system. Forget acceleration unless you’re drag racing.

Or you can just turn on your emergency flashers and parking lights to see if your parking, turn signals and brake lights work. Don't need a five thousand dollar computer for that.

I'm sure all services have to be done by dealership and we all know how that works, you'll have to take there word for what's needing to be replaced and if you don't agree warranty no longer exists, and believe me they will dollar you to death

@@jeoff1954 I finally got to hear one a few days ago on the road I hope that you don’t have to hear it inside the truck it’s not a good sound that 4 cylinder noise and the turbo whining noise it definitely needs a card in it’s spokes and not a exhaust system to make that engine sound louder I want to see some higher mileage reviews not just a new truck review and I don’t see very many of them for any vehicle

You're either misinformed or lying, which doesn't surprise me considering you're a dealer. The 5.3 makes 45 MORE horsepower, 35 MORE ft/lbs of torque(for 2021) and to top it all off the V8 actually gets slightly better fuel economy. I would also like to mention the pushrod design of the 5.3 is nearly a century old, it is literally one of the most simple designs of any other motor on the market right now, turbos adds much more complexity as the bearings and blades will eventually wear down to the point of rebuilding or replacing the turbo. Boosting an engine will also cause much more compression in the combustion chamber, leading to blown head gaskets at shorter intervals. Did I mention the added compression in the combustion requires higher octane fuel to prevent knocking, sure you could use 87 but you the knock sensors will tell the ECM to pull timing, leading to a reduction in horsepower, torque, and fuel efficiency. The 5.3 is a workhorse, it was never meant to be a race engine, (although it holds the stock bottom end 1/4 mile WORLD RECORD) it will last you 300k miles at a minimum if you keep the oil clean. The 2.7 is something GM is pushing because the government is forcing them to sell however many trash emissions engines for every V8. The sad part, like I said is the 5.3 is rated by the literal EPA to have better fuel economy.

The 5.3L is a weak V8. It doesn't make useable power or torque until you wind it out past 4000rpm and then your will be dropping lifters.

The 2.7T will save you more money throughout the year vs the 5.7k iforce and do everything you need it to do.

The new HD 2.7's are robust. As with anything frequent oil changes and using oil that is designed to mitigate LSPI. With the turbo motor, it consumes less fuel at idle, low speeds and since this engine is so bizarrely good at avoiding knock it has more torque, by a lot, at lower speeds. When you're in higher elevation the turbo will be able to compensate to reach torque request, whereas NA is at a disadvantage. V8's have gotten much more worrisome. DI, VVT. Cylinder deactivation, and 4 more cylinders that might have a failure (coils, etc) There is nothing at all wrong with the V8's. And actually at lowerspeeds where the intake pressure is greater than exhaust back pressure the engine has a higher pumping efficiency. When they map that with DI you can run stoich or near stoich (same as NA) so you arent dumping more fuel to accommodate the boost.

There’s no replacement for displacement.

Ford has had a 2.7 in their trucks for years. Their 3.5 is rated for 13,500 lbs. The Chevy 2.7 turbo feels less strained than the 5.3 in a side by side comparison. It's easy to sit back and say something is bad vs actually experiencing it. Come down to the dealership and get a seat of the pants experience.

Lol right yes, a warranty or in other words, a commitment by the manufacturer that they will pay for repairs for the life of the vehicle means it’s garbage. Having a very limited or no warranty at all means the manufacturer can dash out anytime for any reason to leave you high and dry.

A large (Turbo )engine new technology if you take care the truck service it will need the truck will last I believe to over 200 thousand miles or more

The 5.3 doesn’t even make the most power in its class!!!! Of course it lost to a newer turbo motor with more torque
