My Brother and I use to open the end of the buckshot cartridge and replace the pellets with copper coated 22 bullets that we pulled out of the 22 case . We had to squeeze them with a pair of pliers to shorten them up a bit . And drip candle wax on them before closing the end of the cartridge . They where violent . Ammo shortage after the 1974 floods . Cheers from Australia Regards Dan 👍

Thanks for another great video, Wade. I bought the Lyman Sabot Diabolo slug mold after watching this. I've since ran about 200 lbs of lead through it. It makes perfect slugs pretty much every time after a few warm-up pours. I have only one issue with it so far, the same one you had with the pin knob. The pin is too close to the end of the very thin wall of that knob. After it pulled through the first time, I rotated the knob a bit and red-drilled so a small brad nail would pass through both sides. It worked for about the first hundred pounds but finally failed again. I cut the end of a hickory paper towel dispenser dowel and drilled it to fit. It's way better now than new. They need to address this at Lyman.

Wade, thank you so much for all that you do! I jumped in head first to reloading because of you. I have the Lee 00 buck molds and my production pot is on the way. I found 2 bags of the Winchester AA gray shells once fired but did not know that I could re-load them with 10 00 buck shot. Finding reload data for buckshot has been a boatload of frustration. I appreciate your simple approach and attention to detail I also ordered the svarog botfly mold. Your Camera Lady does a superb job of keeping everything in the frame. Best reloading channel around. Thank you.

This is great stuff Wade! I have buckets of all of these hulls that 3 years ago I thought I was silly for hoarding,...I don't feel silly now! I originally loaded some of the Fed/Rio using Cheddite primers and had trouble with the primers being really loose. I used a primer pocket tool and tightened them up which worked really good but took a lot of time. I was lucky and managed to score 1,000 Rio primers just before the zombie Apocalypse. They actually measure about .003" bigger than the Cheddite and worked great in the Fed/Rio/estate. I'm down to just a couple hundred Win primers but had found a good load for AA with a Cheddite primer and IMR Greene...Yes I have some squirreled away so I feel lucky there. Am Glad to hear you have good luck with the Cheddites in the Rem hulls, gonna have to try that. Thanks Bro, Keep it coming, God Bless!

Hey WADE! Nice video my man. As always! Questions: 1) Ain't no Longshot or PRO REACH to be found out here in AZ Cattle country. Powder is basically GONE. The only thing I have available is HERCO, which is designed for heavy shot loads. Got anything worked up with it? 2) I spoke to a nice guy over at Precision Reloading and told him there is a lack of buckshot-specific load data variety in books such as the Lyman manual. I asked him if I could just use the loads found in the "birdshot" section of the book, as long as I kept the buck weight the same as what they were loading the birdshot to. He said it makes no difference pressure-wise, as long as the shot weight is the same in both cases. The only problem he cautioned - is that I might not be able to get as much buck weight in a shell as I could with smaller shot because of the larger air spaces between the buck...lower density in other words. You agree with his statement I can use the birdshot data if I matched shot weight? I see that Lyman has a bunch of load data for 1-1/4 oz birdshot using HERCO...so that would be pretty close to the weight of 9 or 10 "00" pellets depending on the type of lead I cast with. Does that approach sound good?

Wade, it would not matter who used these. They would definitely do the trick. My loaders are set up for 2.75 . Most of my reloading is done for birds/small game. But, I have started loading buckshot and slugs to use in heavy cover situations. I have tried several loads from the high twenties up to thirty four grains of Longshot powder with good results. Keep up the good work brother.

To be cheap I use lizard litter aka tumbling media after its old for buffer and to save overshot cards for musket ball and DGS slugs,, I tear a piece of paper towel to keep buffer from leaking out on buckshot loads. I even loaded plated Makarov bullets as buck since those guns no longer in my collection.

I followed the lee load data with my slug mold and loaded some Gun Club hulls with the WAA12L wads, a LEE 7/8 Key Drive slug and 38 Grains of HS6 powder and all of them had an issue where the powder rattled around like a gourd with beans in it, and if I compressed it harder to try and get the wad down to the powder, the legs collapsed and the slug dropped down too far for a decent crimp. Also, when firing the hulls were stuck in the chamber and I needed to beat the but on the ground to get the to come out, so 38 grains of HS6 was WAY TOO MUCH! Anyway, I have yet to find a wad that will work with those Gun Clubs and was wondering if you could do a video where you take apart factory ammo where you show us hulls like the gun club hull cut open so we can see the wad and it's placement?

Hey Bud!! the New Win hulls are closer to a Federal hull which is really a Rio hull... 🤔 It seems that more and more American ammo makers are subbing out the manufacturing of their hulls to other companies like Rio/Estate! That's why it gets so confusing when looking in older manuals. This is what I have found out over time; The new Winchester, Federal, Rio/Estate, Cheddite, Fiocchi are extremely close to being the same hulls! Yes, the base-wad is slightly tapered because the edges are rounded and not square. it can make you pull your hair out! Here's what I do now-a-days: Just pick up all of the Euro primers possible: Cheddite, Fiocchi 616, Nobel Sport, and Rio. These primers will fit any hull, new and old! and the Gualandi wads (MG42 & Super Short) will fit almost every new hull as will the Ballistic Products CSD and TPS cushioned wads! Wade

It doesn’t make any real difference. A eight point crimp is usually used on trap loads with really small shot(#7,8,9,etc.) to help keep the smaller pellets in the hull. And you’ll see a lot of buck loads, or bigger shot pellet hulls have a 6 point crimp. Other than that, there’s no real difference. They’ll both work the same. Safe loading and shooting to you, and GOD BLESS YOU ALL!!

In your expert opinion what would be the powder charge range for longshot with an 8 pellet OO load. Your loads here indicate 27 grains and the can of longshot has 32 grains for a 1 1/4 once load. Seems like a pretty big swing in charge weight.
