2.4 GHz Microstrip Patch Antenna Design using CST 2019 (Part 1)

Ғылым және технология

In this project, I have designed and simulated microstrip patch antenna working in 2.4 GHz.
In the next video, I will show how I have calculated design parameters of this antenna.

    Very good explination! Even for newbie like me May i ask some qeustions? Is it possible to build patch antenna with operating frequency at 6 GHz? and can we use CST to design the patch antenna in different shape? like triangular shape for example. I’m new here so I actually don’t know much. Thanks a lot

  • @SimulationMaster

    @SimulationMaster

    3 жыл бұрын

    Dear Knight, You can design antenna in different frequency by changing patch antenna dimensions. Reducing dimension will increase the frequency. So to make this antenna work at 6 GHz the dimensions must be approximately 2 times smaller. Also you must take into account the feeding path impedance. You can design patch antenna in any given form, but it will change its radiation properties. You must first decide what you want from the antenna. Have a good new year.

    that is perfectly fine. CST does not see those lines in simulation. It only sees the meshes. So as long as there is no gap between the parts it is not a problem to not add them up.

    Good question. Usually thi smethod gives good results. But if it is not working, please check your model. You probably have some issue there. It also happens with me. If your model is okay, then try to use the dimensions with half the width of antenna, and use 4 times the high of antenna. Let me know the results.

I am very very bad at this but I really need to finish this project. And sorry for my bad english

  • @SimulationMaster

    That is really good question. CST can simulate electric and magnetic fields radiation from the antenna. To induce voltage you need a source. And it is possible by placing source in the simulation and calculate electric field and by dividing it with impedance get a voltage value. But I don't know how to do this :( If you find the answer please let me know

    Dear Shawn, Because of the fringing electromagnetic fields I usually take twice the dimensions of the patch antenna as a starting point. It gives reasonable initial results. After that, if Electric field magnitude does not converge toward the edge, you can increase the dimensions. But it will affect your simulation time. So in the end, choosing twice the dimension of the patch is a good compromise.

    How can we convert gain in dBi to dB??

  • @SimulationMaster

    @SimulationMaster

    4 жыл бұрын

    You can not. dBi is a measure of the gain with respect to the isotropic antenna. dB is just a ratio of the voltages or powers. To define antenna gain you must always use dBi.

  • @devayanis5265

    @devayanis5265

    @@SimulationMaster thanku..actually in previous CST versions (2016) gain of the simulated antennas used to be represented in dB.. dBi and dB is quite same..when we compare gain of the simulated antenna ( for eg. 3 dB ) with an isotropic antenna having gain 1( 0 dB )..It means simulated antenna can radiate twice when compared to the isotropic (dBi)...or it can radiate twice of input power given (dB)..so it can be the same.. Correct me if I'm wrong

    @@devayanis5265 Yes you are totally right, but because of the nomenclature, it is good to say that your antenna has X dBi.

    First, you need to find a manufacturer where you are going to build it. Then ask them for the available material they have and choose one of these materials. Desing antenna based on the dielectric data of this material. Then let them build it and have fun

    First of all you can start designing by downsizing all parameters in 2.4 GHz antenna by approximately 2.4 times. After that you must change inset feed parameters to get good S11 value.
