Located in the urban context of Surat, Aarjav is a four-storeyed family home on a compact plot that is nature-integrated and requirement-based.
The patterned brick façade along with the exposed concrete frame form the front façade of the house. An amalgamation of earthiness and a subtle material palette makes this house unique.
Principal Architect Dinesh Suthar and Interior Designer Bhavika Suthar walk us through this climate-responsive house, where the green pockets create a disconnect from the everyday hustle and bustle.

Good job. This is what Architecture is all about rather than pushing a whole lot of expensive luxury gear into the project and showing it off, which has sort of like become the norm nowadays. Keep up the good work DWG team 👍

This is the first Architect video I have ever seen that magical words come from an architect" WE ARE NOT WORRY ABOUT SUNLIGHT COMES IN" When your building a house, you should let in lots of sunlight comes IN.

I follow buildofy actively, this video was one of the best I have seen in a while. The architecture was simple and comprehensible, the low maintenance and minimalist interiors were something that resonated with me the most. Although what is the ceiling height of the project, it seemed like 8feet to me?

I have a question for the architect (and for builders, owners or anyone else, really) about growing extensive vegetation on the first floor. When growing plants on the first floor, since permanently moist soil sits on the building structure, will it not cause mold or other fungus growth in the brick/concrete structure of the house?

Architects with huge egos don't give a fuck about structure..they want to cash on the design in the present ...what happens in future .... people will forget who designed it....this wasn't directed towards DWG who are doing great designs in the region... It is my general observation about other architects.

Brick and concrete can develop fungus and other things. However, there are 2 things which we need to understand here. 1. There are chemicals which are called "Water Repellent". We advice to use these coats on the brick, concrete, stone or any such porous / rough surfaces. It rejects the water and save the structure from damage. 2. Surat is humid climate so if we are using normal paint also, we need to re do again within 5-7 years. So we think it is better to use Brick/ Concrete and in 5-7 years just re-coat and you are good to go. No structural damage, no fungus. And above all these kind of exterior have great aesthetics and as they get older you even enjoy more. !!

@@designworkgroup8586 Thank you for taking the time to respond. I guess a good way to do it may be to maintain soil in large/custom-made clay trays rather than directly on the building structure. Good to learn! Thank you for the great presentation as well!

Suggestion : use cocopeat into large pots instead of actual soil. Reduced the weight on structure and all other concerns

Hey Aakash, in living area there are 6 seating space. and if you count connected deck it has more space to seat. I do agree that you may need more seating but it can vary family to family. It this project it was enough for the family. Thanks for the comment.
