Loved the tour of the garden. I mix the fish emulsion in a watering can. You’re brave putting your hands in there. LOL

I did some pruning in my pepper plants and I am getting so many flowers and peppers are now visible. I can only plant in pots on the deck due to living in a condo. I have 4 tomato plants and have never had them be so healthy and full of flowers and tomatoes already. We have been eating lettuce already.

Your garden looks great! I have never been able to grow celery so I grow lovage instead.

A trick I saw on a French channel was to cover your celery with an old cardboard jug. Open the bottom and slide over each stalk with leave sticking out of the top! It help to keep the celery from getting too dark.

hey rachael i’m 16 and just started my garden this year it has been so much fun my tomatoes and cucumber plants are doing great i pulled a carrot to see how they were and i was literally so shocked to see that they were growing because most people in my area can’t grow them right now

Hopefully the cucumbers pick up. Mine are looking a bit sad this year, last year I had more cucumbers than I could process. My squash plants on the other hand are taking over the garden. I sowed some on this years compost row and they have spread out and are covering this years and last years compost rows, 3 walkways and threatening the 2 veg rows on either side.

We use the same, also use horticultural molasses. Like the channel!!!!!

I always had a problem getting small seeds to germinate properly. My 2 problems were planting depth and soil moisture. I've decided to till the soil to a very fine texture, rake till flat surface or drag board over it as if leveling concrete. Next, I would unroll toilet paper to keep seeds from going too deep. I would then have purchased soil material that was black with no wood chips in it to give proper depth over the seeds. My last thing was to moisten the seeds. The toilet paper could be moistened while placing to hold it down. My last couple tricks were to place a board and/or plant ALL very small seeds in the same general area close to the house where I could lay the water hose with sprinkler attachment on the end to be able to gently water twice a day. I done this same general technique with tomato seeds in a trough, beet seeds seeded with a Hoss seeder, and carrots under a board, this year and was very successful with each. It didn't come without a steep learning curve. I believe celery takes a lot of water and could be done this way as well. Being close for a water hose saves a lot of work with small seeds. Heavy water will wash the seeds and soil so they need guarded against strong watering and strong rain till established. The plastic or board can help but need watched to make sure the plastic doesn't overheat or shade the seeds too long.

We are at the end of the spring summer season in central Texas. Getting very hot so we are close to the resting season until Sept-Oct to plant for fall and winter. Our best season is Oct-Dec it does not get as cold her until Jan-Feb. We love your channel and enjoy learning how to garden up north.

I miss my Texas garden. I would always plant okra for the hottest part of the summer in Tx. Always seemed that the hotter it got, the better it did and it never needed much tending to. There are so many ways to use okra too!

It’s probably good that you mulched your celery. It was my first year with it too but we got some warm days and I must not have made sure they were watered enough because they went bitter. I dehydrated them for soups and sautés so if they do get bitter, they are still good. Apparently they love water.

Love your garden's progress!! For your beets, will you use the thinned ones as micro greens or will they become a chicken treat? Have you tried transplanting them? Or is that not a thing?

Oh Rachel they tell us not grow carrots they don't well in Central ky. But had some real loose soil and my son kept begging to try grow carrots he onky 6 so funny. Well I tried it last year and only 2 germinated and dint make a carrots. So this year I tried wood board to help with germination and my husband hardly ever gets excited about the garden well today he did lol 😆over carrots. They may could have gone lil longer on some but they were still good maybe should had thinned out. we had take a shovel to dig them up bc we are suppose get more rain afraid my root veggies woukd rot. They were taken over with some weed and grass we gotten so much rain weeding been crazy. Let my potatoes go bc they so close anyways just been crazy trying keep my tomatoes well with all the rain ... and today found horn worm ugh.... but so so excited over the carrots....I was trying to find ur carrot video I can't remember how to store them

How do melons do in Michigan for you? I'm in Minnesota, and the melons I tried last year failed, but I am determined to grow them this year!

It looks like you have raised beds and also plant direct in the ground, do you select specific vegetables for in ground Vs raised beds?

What variety of celery are you growing and where did you get your seeds? I am planning on trying to grow it as a fall crop in zone 7b VA.

You don't have any problem with pumpkins crossing with the squash or the cucumbers? We had some one year in the best looking ground garden I have ever had and they crossed. Had cucumber that looked great and tasted like metal. The pumpkins crossed with the yellow squash and the squash tasted like pumpkin. The pumpkin looked great and was yellow in side like the yellow squash but had absolutely no taste. I almost sweared off of gardening forever after that year. Since I have never planted squash, cucumbers, or pumpkins again in the same year.

I heard if you plant herbs with other plants the smell keeps the bugs off them from the smell

I have the tomato rot on ONE of my 12 tomato plants this year. DO I COMPOST THAT WHOLE BUSH OR PLACE IT IN THE TRASH BIN? I'm thinking the fungus would spread to next years plants if I compost it?

Rachel, I have a question I hope you can answer. I killed some cabbage moths that were devouring my cabbage plants. I think I got them all just in time, but there is frass all over my plants. Not that I want to eat bug poop, but are my cabbages still edible if washed well, or do I have to pull all of my cabbage plants? I searched for the answer to this all over the net and there isn't one gardener that addresses whether this is safe or not. Most sites say that the frass becomes putrid and they say that you have to pull the plant but this is when there is basically nothing left of the plant. Can you advise?

It's does but diluted down once applied there is no lingering smell
