    I put a Wilson Combat rear sight on my Anaconda and Python and it made a world of difference on both. They are more substantial and hold the adjustments. A very worthwhile investment I am glad I made. The factory rear sight on the Python and Anaconda leave a lot to be desired.

    Thanks mr. plowboysghost! It us a shame about the Anaconda sights and Colt QC.....however some of the newer S&Ws even performance center magnums have things like light primer strikes.....guess that just makes us all glad for Ruger consistency and quality. Either that or buy old Smiths and Colts.

    I'm really looking forward to getting an aftermarket rear sight for the Anaconda, but man.... The Redhawk shined today! I also look forward to an aftermarket wood grip for the 29, too. I wasn't even planning to get the camera out today, so you get to see the coveralls 3 sizes too big and bad hair even worse than usual 😁...but I couldn't shoot all these and not post at least something of it.

    I used an aftermarket wood grip on my 629 that is pretty much a factory profile but smooth (no checkering) It is very comfortable to shoot but I forget who makes it... it is one of the big makers tho.. the one that still makes Sambar Stag grips I think... LOL I also have some cheap plastic grips which are also smooth and near factory shape and they are also very comfy to shoot but ugly as sin to me in fake... and I mean really really fake ivory@@plowboysghost

    Something about 44 mags😃. My new Python’s rear sight has a little wiggle to it, altho it’s been pretty accurate just plinking around. Will probably get the Wilson at some point. But I swear, it’s the greatest action/trigger revolver I’ve ever owned.

    slightly different take here... I have shot both the old and new Anacondas IMO the new one is better except for the rear sight. I have a 1969 Python... The front sight is terrible (for me) and the factory grips don't work for me so I had to get a new front sight and new grips several hundred bucks... All my revolvers are customized to some extent... It is one of the things that is neat about revolvers To me? any revolver that comes with rubber grips or a ramp front sight or one of those horrible glow plug sights is deflective and I know I will have to spend $100 or more to fix it. I have a pretty big box of grips that have been replaced but that is a blessing to me... at least I CAN change em! same for my 1911's With most modern semi autos the only grip change available is wrapping em in skateboard tape.... or... how do you make a plastic gun even uglier:? . @@plowboysghost

    Great vid.. lifetime 44 mag fan starting in the early 70's with a SBH.. maybe owned a dozen various makes since then? Right now I only have two revolvers in 44 mag. One is the 629 that I polished (not a fan of SS looks) this is an extremely accurate 44 and WAY tougher than the original model 29. The other is a Dan Wesson heavy barrel with 2.5......6...... 8... and 5" barrels yep 5" I had that one made. I no longer own a Ruger.... had 4 different Redhawks. The last and best one I just gave to my brother. Everything on the gun.... bore/chamber/timing was praise the lord.... correct!! something rare on any Ruger. All the others had issues with rough bores and or undersized chambers I 'mostly' fixed em but then lost all respect. Also? they are bigger than a Smith and clumsier but not as big (robust) as the DW which is about Anaconda size. Sooo.. not only suspect but a size that is not needed. My load is a 250 cast and coated bullet at around 1200 fps... maybe 5% under factory? comfortable to shoot VERY accurate. Everyone who shoots that load seems to like it. On the Kieth load...... 2400 has changed over the years. my chrono and shooting it say that it is overpressure based on velocity with todays 2400 (by today I mean in the last 25 years) Accurate #9 is pretty close to 2400 but MUCH cleaner pressures are about the same all else being equal. with the #9 the MAX load with a 240 cast bullet is 20 grains for 1500 fps...it would be slightly more with 250 grain... #9 and 2400 use the same charge up to that point. IN MY OPINION 22 grains of 2400 is an overpressure charge. I use 19 grains of #9 for my 'hot' loads I also coat my cast bullets with HT coat myself but you can just buy em already coated. What HT does for you is.........the end of leading...no longer an issue. more accuracy in marginal guns (those that shoot jacketed rounds ok but not cast due to missmatch of bore/chamber) and... guns that shoot coated bullets are even easier to clean than those that shoot jacketed bullets #9 gets rid of the mess 2400 makes and HT gets rid of the mess cast bullets and their lube make. I have a grand or more in my lube/sizer.... have not touched it in 3 years or so. cobwebs on it. also... no smoke from the lube when shooting. I will never go back. Oh... and bullet hardness? The HT coat makes that almost a non issue. any old scrap lead will do except pure lead. Similar good things happen in .357 mag. and some of my best groups in 45 acp are with cast and coated 200 grain SWC Try it... several cast bullet makers offer HT coat bullets at about the same price as uncoated bullets. The 9mm in a carbine cut groups in half with the coated bullet. I have turned so many of my friends on to HT coat that I should be getting some kind of kickback LOL.

    I've read a good bit on today's 2400 vs yesterday's... including actual pressure testing that exposed the reality that historic 2400 and today's are close enough to each other that the pressure difference is no more than lot to lot variances of 2400. I credit that research with a marked decline in my eyesight...reading hours a day for weeks to get to the truth.

  • @doranmaxwell1755

    @doranmaxwell1755

    7 ай бұрын

    Yeah.. I have heard about the same. Lot to Lot variance must be huge tho cause I got maybe 5 lbs of 2400 from 70's to 2000 and there is a noticeable difference.. But old Kieth (bless his heart) blew up a lot of guns in his day... also... he had no way to test for velocity much less pressure.... What I am saying is that his loads like lots of loads gunwriters were using/selling were way overpressure Aliant this day.... gives 20 grains as an absolute maximum. And as you know when you get to max? any more powder has way more effect on pressure than what 1 or two grains does at lower levels. Just sayin... I would dump both the Kieth load and the 2400 and go with 19 grains of Accurate #9I have shot 19 grains of both 2400 and of #9 and the 9 will have the same velocity in my guns as the 2400 but will feel noticably softer.@@plowboysghost

    @@doranmaxwell1755 I appreciate the advice, but I shot a lot of them in Rugers and new Smiths over the last several years without an issue before I dropped to 21 gr 2400 for the last 300-400 I loaded, because 21 was more accurate in my Redhawk. I hear that about Ole Elmer regularly..that he blew up a lot of guns. Far as I know he never blew up an N Frame with his 22-gr load, and today's N Frame is more durable than his was. That horse was beat to death over years of discussions until someone with access to the equipment to test chamber pressure laid it to rest on a forum or two. When I get done with the last of the Keith Load and the 21 gr load, I'll swap to H110 for that bullet just like I did the 310.

  • @doranmaxwell1755

    @doranmaxwell1755

    I understand. I also fell prey to a lot of gun myths that everyone takes as gospel like SAA should only be loaded with 5 and kept on an empty chamber etc. On this one.... lets just say that at best he was on the bleeding edge of pressure. Lets also say that the makers of 2400 give a max load of 20 grains. Not sure what the velocity loss is when going from 22 to 20 grains but it can't be much... maybe 25-40 fps? Do I want to shoot loads that are at best over max pressure to get that? Not me... I would be the guy that did 19. I have found that almost always the max load in manuals is not even the most accurate let alone over max. not to mention that max pressure is just that... max..not pressure curve. But if it works for you? On the flip side of that coin.. the 44 spl... there really are no good 44 spl loads in the manual. Every max load for lead is at way under max pressure. My load for 44 special is about 7% over their max loads but under max for the round and.. pressure curves for low pressure rounds are different than for high pressure rounds@@plowboysghost

    @@doranmaxwell1755 Is the load data you refer to with a real Keith bullet or just a regular SWC design? A true Keith being weighted forward with less bullet in the case has a reducing effect on pressure, as well. I've seen a LOT of people refer to such generic SWC bullets as "Keith" design or Keith style...which they aren't. Anywho..as I said, this is not a matter of theory or light study for me...it's something Ive been shooting for YEARS after extensive research. When my now meager stash of 22-gr are all shot, I'll still be loading the 21-gr and safely shooting them. Best of luck to you
