Broadway’s “The International Revue” (1930) was produced by Lew Leslie, starred Gertrude Lawrence & Harry Richman, and featured songs by Jimmy McHugh and Dorothy Fields, including this standard and “Exactly Like You.“ Performed here by Lewis at a most leisurely pace, “Sunny Side” is usually presented in a more medium tempo…such as in the famous 1944 version by the Tommy Dorsey band • 1945 HITS ARCHIVE: On ...
The original 78rpm single was issued on Columbia 2144-D - On The Sunny Side Of The Street (McHugh-Fields) by Ted Lewis and his Band, incidental singing by Ted Lewis, recorded in NYC February 28, 1930

"Is everybody Happy?" This performance leading the onset of Jazz, is covered by the tapestry of its minstrelsy origins. You can visualize a 'soft-shoe' performance mid-melody. The timbre of Mr. Entertainment's voice is iconic.

The way this is performed and sung really brings out a melancholy aspect of the tune that I've never picked up before.

Which makes perfect sense since the US had just went through a huge stock market crash and sunk into the Great Depression when this song come out.

This version reminds me of the scene in Alice in Wonderland where she’s left lost in the woods crying. This is a really beautiful and melancholic version❤ Edit: the scene I’m mentioning is when she sings “Very Good Advice”
