1999年7月18日 九広軽鉄 元朗ー屯門ライトレール・フェリーで東涌へ、

九広鉄路で、太和まで乗車、バスに乗り換え、元朗へ、
1988年9月に開通した、九広鉄道（軽鉄 ライトレール）に乗りに行きました。
専用軌道を急カーブで走るライトレール、オーストラリア製の電車。
路面電車の次元を超えるもので驚きました。
屯門からフェリーで東湧に渡り、東湧線に乗りました。
香港も、鉄道建設の思い切りが良いと感じました。
機場快線を高速で走らせるために、一気に複々線で建設しました。

東涌線は空港鉄道の普通列車の役割を果たし、急行に当たる機場快線では停車しない駅を補完する役割と、香港、九龍両市街からランタオ島や新界南部のニュータウン地区を結ぶ通勤路線の役割を持つ。機場快線と九龍駅手前で分岐し各系統のホームに入り、青衣駅まで複々線区間が続く。都心部区間が終わり郊外区間では複線となる。
